My new favorite way of listening to music
on February 1, 2021
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
This was written by my 15 year old daughter who I got these headphones for:
The adjustable bass is really cool, I like bass because it helps me feel the music more. But sometimes bass isn’t wanted like when I watch a video, so the adjustable bass is really good. The sound is really good and blocks out most of the sound outside. I don’t usually like headphones that rest around my ears because it feels like they crush my head but these are really comfortable and I can wear them for a long time. They do get a little pokey with earrings in but that’s not a big deal. It’s my new favorite way of listening to music.

Excellent wire-free video doorbell
on January 8, 2021
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
I needed a wire-free video doorbell due to a recent kitchen remodel which rendered the existing interior doorbell wiring inaccessible. Since I already have the Arlo app with multiple security cameras on multiple properties, adding another device was simple and took only a couple minutes which included downloading the firmware update. Once that was done the doorbell was activate, quick and easy.
Mounting the device on the exterior was also fairly quick. However, Arlo kind of missed on the included hardware to attach the mounting plate. The head of the provided screw was too small and went right through the mounting plate hole and would not secure it to the wall. Fortunately I have all sorts of screws in my garage so finding a replacement with a larger head was no big deal, but it might frustrate other users and frankly its rather inexcusable for a mistake like that.
Video is awesome, notifications and alerts are great. I like the call option so you can talk to someone at the front door or tell them to beat it. Another feature I really like that other systems I’ve used did not have is alerting what’s in front of the door, i.e., person, animal (like my neighbor’s cat), or vehicle. It has been spot-on in identification.
One feature that I wish it had is a way to quickly and easily inactivate the doorbell. For example, the Arlo app has an Off slider switch for the security cameras so you can quickly turn them off. We have a property up in the mountains where it can get very windy in the Winter. The pine trees will blow and sway in the wind which will trigger the motion detector on the cameras so I turn them off until the wind subsides. It would be nice to have that Off slider option on the doorbell to stop notifications sometimes when my kids are playing and going in and out of the front door constantly. I end up with lots of useless notifications and videos.
Other than that, it’s a great device that provides excellent video and at a very good price.

Full disclosure, I’m comparing these earbuds to the Sony WF1000 XM3 earbuds which I got over a year ago in hopes that newer technology will bring even better listening. These earbuds are smaller and lighter than the Sony’s, and changing out the ear tips to a larger size resulted in a really solid fit in my ear. That’s about it for the Pro’s as far as I’m concerned, now let’s talk about the Con’s. First, I was quite underwhelmed with the sound coming from these earbuds. When listening to music the sound was tinny, very little bass, and they do not get loud enough (at least not for me) even at full volume listening to Spotify on my Iphone 11. I did some research and found out there is a Yamaha app called Headphones Controller (the included instructions manual did have a QR code that seemed to refer to the app but I couldn’t get my phone to read it). So I downloaded the Yamaha app from the App Store hoping there would be some cool app features similar to the Sony app. For example, the Sony app has different sound modes and an equalizer to dial in the sound the way you like it. Once I downloaded the Yamaha app I found that it had only two settings: 1) Listening Care, on or off, and 2) Auto Power-off Timer. That’s it! No ability whatsoever to change the sound settings, enhance the bass, etc., like the Sony app has so that was a big disappointment.
I think these earbuds will be fine for using on Zoom computer meetings for my job so that’s what I will plan on using these for, but I will definitely stick with the Sony’s for music listening. Granted, the Sony earbuds are a more expensive model so a better comparison would likely be with the Yamaha TW-E7A’s which, according to Yamaha’s website, are high performance with noise-canceling like the Sony’s. But as far as these earbuds are concerned I guess they prove the old adage “you get what you pay for”.

Great addition to my existing system
on October 30, 2020
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
I have multiple Arlo security systems for multiple properties. I’ve been a big fan of their products and this one is no exception. Adding it to my existing home base station was seamless, took literally less than a minute or two including a firm update. I like the new mounting bracket, easy to install and provides camera views at all angles. But as I’m writing this and thinking about it, some of my other cameras have the magnetic connector which is probably better because it makes taking them off the mounting bracket super simple for recharging. I have not had to recharge this one yet, but it will require unscrewing it from the bracket/connector to take it off.
The firm update added an e911 option that I previously did not have. By clicking a button it allows you to dial 911 which truly adds an extra layer of security and peace of mind in the event of an emergency. Another added feature is Package Detection; you receive notifications when Amazon, etc., delivers something to your home, pretty cool! Another cool feature is Smart Notifications which can be customized for People, Vehicles, Animals, and All Other Motion. I just implemented this feature so don't have anything to report yet, but having the option seems beneficial.
The Spotlight works well, its not super bright but certainly sufficient for my purposes. When it turns, on the Night vision (essentially black and white video) turns to color which enhances the video tremendously. The camera is 1080p and has a 130-degree field of view so videos are excellent.
After using the camera the past few days I am very impressed. I’m still fine tuning certain aspects like on/off schedule, etc., but so far its a great addition to my existing system.

Love the feel of this keyboard
on October 22, 2020

from Parker CO
Just got it a day ago. Often times when you get a new keyboard it takes some adjusting since you've been so used to using your old one, so I'm still in the adjustment phase but I really like it so far. Love the feel of the keys, I have the red linear mechanical switches and they keep up with my typing (which is pretty fast) perfectly without missing a beat. My last keyboard couldn't keep up, often had to backspace and retype letters, but not with this one. Since my office is in my basement and kind of dark I needed illuminated keys so love this feature as well. You can vary the illumination pattern to your liking, another nice feature. The overall layout of the keyboard is pretty small, no wasted space at all, and I like its smaller form factor. It is wired so keep that in mind if you're looking for wireless. Overall, although I'm still adjusting to its size and spacing of the keys, I'm really enjoying its usability and precise responsiveness. 5 stars for this price point!

Its good, but not as good as Instant Pot
on September 24, 2020
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
I'm comparing this to my Instant Pot, which I love, but I wanted to try the crisping feature. Overall, I'd say the Instant Pot is better, but the Express Crock does have pros. Here are the pros and cons, again compared to the Instant Pot.
PRO:
- The pot is non-stick so saute feature and cleanup are WAY better. With the Instant Pot, no matter how much oil I put in, I cannot transfer from saute/browning to pressure cook mode because it thinks there isn't liquid in the pot because of the stuck on food after the saute/browning.
- Every function it alleges to have works as expected - it pressure cooks, slow cooks and crisps
CONS:
- It's heavy and big and bulky.
- Yes, it crisps, but the capacity to crisp in one batch is so small that it ended up taking longer (because of the number of batches I had do) than it would have to use the oven to bake and then broil to crisp because I could have done one batch
- The time set also did not seem to work properly with the crisp feature. The recipe I was doing required cooking for a period of time, then tossing and cooking for another few minutes. I could set the time for the first round, but after I tossed, I could not get the time to set. I read the instructions over and over and couldn't figure out if I was doing something wrong or if it just doesn't work.
- To pressure cook, it takes a long time to heat up. Add 15 minutes to your plan just for it to warm up before it starts pressure cooking. Yes, Instant Pot has to warm up too, but it is more like 5 minutes.

Solid little coffee maker
on August 9, 2020
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
Takes up little room on my kitchen counter, brews a full pot very quickly, and easy to cleanup/maintain. My only complaint is no filters are included by the manufacturer to get you going. If they threw in 5 or 10 filters it would cost them next to nothing so they kinda cheaped out on that. But for $20 you can't go wrong with this coffee maker.

A mini food processor that works!
on July 11, 2020
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
I've been looking for a long time for a mini food processor to replace a Cuisinart one I had years ago. I've tried a couple, but they never seem to really work to chop small quantities (like chimichurri). This one absolutely works. The key is that the blade skims the bottom of the bowl so it doesn't just whir above what you want to chop. The only negatives are the instructions aren't the clearest so it took me a bit to figure out how to get the lid off. It also doesn't work if it isn't charged. But by charging it just a couple minutes I was able to pulse it enough for the salsa I was making. The negatives are minor to it actually working. Overall its a great product and I certainly recommend it!

Awesome!! My new favorite bluetooth speaker
on June 9, 2020
Posted by: Randy
from Parker CO
Sony has been killin' it lately in the premium audio products sector. I own multiple styles of their latest headphones and love them all. This is my first Sony bluetooth speaker and it continues the trend.
The XB33 is on the smaller side so it is very portable, but it puts out big sound. Its got 3 sound modes, Extra Bass, Live, and Stamina for long playing. To me the Extra Bass mode sounds best and it definitely delivers the bass for a smallish audio device. Another thing I like about it is when you press the 'on' button it turns on immediately, no delay in waiting for the speaker to power up. And connecting to your bluetooth device takes literally 2 seconds, its very fast. Sony advertises that it is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof so it will stand up to the elements when outside. They also say the battery will last up to 24 hours with the lights turned off, but I always have them on because it looks awesome. The light show syncs with the music, its constantly changing colors, and it is a lot of fun to watch. I love this speaker, tons of fun and sounds fantastic!

Make hands-free calls and listen to music with these Sony wireless in-ear sport headphones. The wireless design frees your range of motion, and the microphone makes conversations more convenient. Listen to music for over 8 hours on a single charge with these Sony wireless in-ear sport headphones, which are moisture-resistant for use during strenuous workouts.

Has anyone used these for running? I'm worried they won't stay in my ears...

I just finished a 7 mile run with these headphones, the outside temperature was 31 degrees, so I was wearing a knit cap. When running with the cap on the headphones stayed in place very well and required no adjusting or pushing them back into my ears. I also did a test without wearing the knit cap where I found the headphones did start to work themselves out of my ears after a few minutes. I’m 6’2” 205 pounds and not the smoothest runner so this probably had something to do with that, plus the fact that these headphones have a little more size and weight to them than others I’ve had in the past, no doubt due to the construction which helps them deliver that excellent bass sound.
