Out of this world suction. Sounds futuristic, too.

I've never owned a cordless vacuum before, and the previous (corded) vacuums I owned always seem to have lost the potential they had when they were purchased brand new. They were also very hard to upkeep and maintenance wasn't necessarily a breeze. I have been given the opportunity to own one of Dyson's newest vaccums, the v8 Animal cordless. I've always known of Dyson vacuums but never took the plunge on purchasing one since they are quite pricey as stated by other reviewers, but now I see why it's worth the price you pay.
Out of the box you get a variety of tools that let you use this vacuum on practically any surface or object. You get two floor brushes, a smaller one to use in automobiles and rugs, and a larger one to use on carpets and (somewhat) hard-wood floors (Note: Dyson makes another floor brush specifically for hardfloors, available in their Absolute model). You also get a thin tube to vacuum tight spots like floor corners and sofa cushions, and two brushes for cleaning tabletops, keyboards, window blinds, you get the idea. And lastly a long extension tube necessary for vacuuming the floor and with the proper tool, hard-to-reach areas like your ceiling fans.
Setting up the Dyson vacuum was painlessly easy, and installing the wall-mount and charger wasn't as tedious as you'd expect compared to say, wall-mounting a television. As you can see in the photos I provided, the wall-mount goes about 47 inches from the floor to allow the cord to sit evenly near your power outlet. I love the low-profile design and it makes it incredibly easy to switch between tools.
I understand why this model is called a "v8", because the suction on this vacuum is pretty darn good! I love using the max suction feature when I want to give my carpets a good clean-up removing all kinds of dust, allergens, and junk possible every once in awhile. For the vast majority of routine cleaning, however, I found the max suction mode to not be as necessary, and the regular suction mode allows me to keep on going with up to 40 minutes of Dyson's "fade-free" suction promise. When you're done, it takes 3 seconds to fully empty out the dust bin. You simply face the motor towards the garbage can, pull the red lever and watch as a thrust of manually forced air pushes most of the dust straight to the can. By popping down the motor hard enough, you can easily get the rest of the remaining dust out. Then you simply close the bin's door and you can either continue vacuuming or prepare it for charging.
To be clear, I have only owned this vacuum for about a couple weeks and I gave myself enough time to use the vacuum to it's fullest and giving my home and my car a thoroughly deep clean. Dyson has made one of the most tedious chores a fun thing to look forward to. If you can afford to, get this vacuum. I'm certain it will last you (and me) a very, very long time.

Great bass and long lasting, however...
on January 12, 2017

I'm usually not a fan of wearing in-ear wireless headphones because they're easy to lose, you have to constantly clean the gel buds due to earwax, and they don't fit as comfortably as on-the-ear headphones tend to be. These however changed my perception of what they could potentially become.
Sony's XB80BS are considered "Extra Bass" which is a lineup of audio products that place an emphasis on bass gain without inhibiting performance and sound quality. By simply pressing the "bass boost" button on the right earpiece (awkwardly placed, IMO), an extra woofer turns on and equalizes the bass on whatever you're listening to so that the lower tones can be more pronounced without affecting the overall tonality of your highs and mids. I appreciate the enhancement functionality but typically most music sounds excellent enough for me without bass boost enabled. I would however turn the feature on if I wanted complete noise cancellation from outside sources.
The XB80BS earbuds are tied together by a cord between both which is designed to be worn around-behind your neck. I try my best not to mess with the cord as any sounds made from any rubbing or movement of the cord gets fed to the earbuds, which can easily get annoying. So where does it plug in to your device, you ask? It doesn't. The XB80BS' easily pair via Bluetooth within seconds and offer up to 6-7 hours of battery life per full charge. You can also quickly get about an hour of usage with only 15 minutes of charging.
For the most part, these in-ear wireless headphones do a good job of producing decent audio quality (with optional bass enhancement), long battery life, and for them being advertised as "sport headphones" seem pretty robust to handle daily use for a long time (of course nothing lasts forever, but you never know). They don't have me permanently switching from on-the-ear wireless headphones though. To each their own tastes.

These are simply brush heads for Philips Sonicare toothbrushes, and I must say I find them very comfortable on my teeth, even more comfortable than traditional "soft" manual and powered toothbrushes. The blue coating on the brushes lets you know when it's ready for replacement. and if you own the FlexCare Platinum Connected brush will communicate with your phone via Bluetooth what the health of your brush heads are and how many more sessions you have before needing to replace them. They last long and are a must for Sonicare users. Don't forget to use your My Best Buy rewards account for 15% off!

Like going to see your dental hygienist everyday
on November 29, 2016

I've used powered toothbrushes for a few years now and have usually used inexpensive models from Colgate and Oral-B that are readily available at the grocery store. I have heard of Philips Sonicare toothbrushes and always wanted to see what made them stand out from conventional toothbrushes. What made me curious and want to take the leap was the fact that this toothbrush connects to your phone via Bluetooth to help ensure that you are brushing properly and thoroughly.
Setup was simple and easy with the free Sonicare app. The brush comes with two replacement brush heads, one that adapts to your tooth and the other smaller brush head for precise cleaning in between teeth and for plaque removal. The Sonicare app keeps track of how many times you've used your brush head so you'll know exactly when it's time to reach for a new one.
You have three vibration intensity levels to choose from: Clean, White, and Deep Clean. After reading the manual I found Clean to be my optimal setting, but upon first use I didn't like how intense the vibration was on my teeth compared to my former power toothbrush, especially on the lowest setting. It turns out you are actually able to set the toothbrush into a "beginner mode" that gradually intensifies the vibration within the first 15 uses so you can better get used to the tingly vibration on your teeth. I really recommend doing so especially if you're not used to power toothbrushes.
The best part about using this brush was seeing how well I was brushing my teeth, and if I needed to focus more on a particular section. The brush uses an accelerometer to track whether you are brushing the front, top, or back of your teeth. If you don't brush a specific spot as well during the 2 minutes, the app will ask you to turn on your brush again for Touch-Ups so you have a second chance to brush up and get a complete clean. I guess the only main downside about using this brush is that you need to have your phone with you every time you brush, otherwise you won't be able to take advantage of it's full benefit.
You know that feeling your mouth gets after an appointment with your dental hygienist? That's exactly how it feels after using this toothbrush every time. The smart connectivity functions are excellent, but it does come with a new learning habit of having to take your phone with you and opening a specific app every time before brushing.

Great smart home assistant, but needs training

I already own an Amazon Echo and as such have become fairly acquainted to the Alexa ecosystem. Over time, Echo learned new tricks and became more intelligent by tailoring to my IoT setup and being able to answer questions swiftly and without much issue. Google Home is new to the home virtual assistant arena, and it has plenty to learn versus it's mature competitor. For one, it can't connect to my LIFX bulbs, leaving Alexa to do the work on those. Many of the tasks I ask Echo to do are met with a "Sorry, I haven't learned how to do that yet." or something along those lines. Until Home is able to integrate with more products and services, I will still keep Alexa around for the time being.
Functionality aside, the device itself looks sleek and will complement any area of your home. To me it looks like one of those electronic candles that sit on your table. I have mine placed in my kitchen and it could almost be mistaken for a kitchen appliance. It's touch-sensitive controls are brilliant and the LED lights are bright enough to recognize from a distance. The speakers on this device are decent, they're not necessarily anything spectacular but it does the job when speaking to Home and listening to "easy" music.
Google Home has a lot of potential as it learns more tricks and can become more integrated with your lifestyle. Because this product is still in it's honeymoon phase, don't expect it to do as many things or connect to as many devices as the Amazon Echo can. If you have no problem waiting for the Home to improve over time, then feel free to get it now. Otherwise, I'd hold off on it.

For the best of Android in 2016, this is it.

For the past few months, I have been patiently waiting for the latest smartphones to hit the market so I could make a firm decision on which one to get. There were of course the expected contenders, most notably the iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Apple's latest phone turned out to be yet another incremental upgrade, if you can call it that, since while the iPhone 7 had some nifty upgrades under it's belt, it's big disappointment was the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack. Samsung's Note 7 was supposed to be one of the greatest smartphones the Korean giant has ever produced, until it's unfortunate round of exploding batteries forced Samsung to pull the beloved "father of the phablet" out of the market for good. I really wish the Note 7 was still around.
Given the circumstances I had to face from Apple not making significant upgrades to the iPhone and not being able to purchase a Note 7 due to the whole dilemma, I was able to gasp a breath of fresh air when Google first announced a special event that took place earlier this month, with a hint that they were unveiling a new phone. To me, this was surprising at first, because Google usually announces their latest Nexus line of devices during their I/O keynote in the summer, to which then I soon figured that the search giant was about to take a new, bold direction into the role they've played in the development of Android as it nears it's first decade in existence. For the first time, Google (with the help of HTC) is building a product from the ground up, with both the hardware and software being unified in the process... the same way Apple has done it from the start. In case you weren't aware, every Nexus device ever produced was a result of a partnership with a major smartphone manufacturer (Samsung, HTC, LG, etc.).
Along comes the Pixel. It is the front-line main vocalist of Google's new line of "Made by Google" products. It is the result of Google's vision of defining what an Android device was supposed to become, and could become in the future. And it is absolutely stunning. It is also quite comfortable to hold in your hand as you use it. Glass and aluminum marry to form a piece of hardware never before seen in the Android ecosystem. The beautiful 1080p AMOLED display has a wide array of colors and also performs well in outdoor use. The fingerprint sensor is incredibly responsive, and the ability to swipe your finger to reveal your notifications comes handy during normal use. I like how I'm able to pick the Pixel up from my pocket and have the screen unlocked and ready to go since my finger naturally lies on the sensor as you grab it. Overall, the design of the Pixel isn't necessarily groundbreaking (for one, it's not water-resistant...), but it still impresses even the pickiest of smartphone buyers. I do wish the device had front-facing stereo speakers like those seen on Sony's Xperia lineup. The era of a mono speaker on the bottom of the phone needs to end, immediately. Lack of microSD card support is also quite unfortunate... have they not learned from Samsung?
Pixel sports a 12.5 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera, which Google touts as having the "best camera ever on a smartphone." And you know, they may be onto something when they make such claim, because the Pixel shoots FANTASTIC photos. It is also the fastest camera phone I have ever used. Within just two seconds I was able to fire up the camera and take a detailed HDR+ shot. Depth of field is excellent as well as dynamic range performance. Unfortunately, you will have to use the stock camera app to get the most out of the Pixel camera. If you think your Snapchat story is about to get a makeover, it's not, and you can blame the way Android apps are written for that, not necessarily the phone hardware itself.
Speaking of Android (obviously), the Pixel sports the latest version, 7.1 "Nougat" and as expected, is pure Android without any bloatware in sight. Even though this is a Verizon model, it does not come pre-loaded with Verizon "bloatware" and is SIM-unlocked out of the box. I really do think the software is what makes this phone shine, and is a key pillar into the experience Google wants their customers to expect out of owning a Pixel. The biggest feature is the introduction of Google Assistant, which is a more conversational-like version of Google Now that lets you perform a wide variety of tasks. In my personal use, however, I didn't find it as amazing as Google touts it to be. Assistant would frequently not respond with the information I needed for a specific request. You will also probably get bored of the jokes and the trivia questions after awhile. Aside from Google Assistant, Nougat is by far the best version of Android yet, and being able to experience it's true form with the Pixel is something to be appreciative about. I did run into a handful of app incompatibilities however, but I'm sure app developers are swiftly working on updating their apps to support Nougat properly.
Overall, the Pixel is probably the best Android smartphone you can currently purchase as of this moment. Don't get me wrong, there are of course other newcomers making the rounds, like the LG V20 and the Asus Zenfone 3, but what matters most is the experience. And I don't feel that a third party manufacturer would be able to give you the experience Google is envisioning. This is why they have ultimately decided to take a strong leap forward by introducing their first ever, 100% Google-made smartphone. By being able to control all aspects of both the hardware and software of the Pixel, like Apple has always done with the iPhone, the possibilities are endless.
For your first try, you nailed it quite well Google. This is only the beginning of a new era, and I can't wait to see the Pixel era of products mature to define the future of Android. I really do mean that. Bravo.

When you usually buy a premium router it tends to look either clunky, unaethestic, difficult to setup, or a combination of the three. Not with the Orbi from Netgear, however, as this product out to give conventional wireless routers (sans AirPort Extreme) a makeover: offering high performance and making it simple to get going while appreciating the somewhat oval design.
You get two units, one being the main router that connects to your modem, and the other as an extender which you place in the area of your home that's lacking in signal strength. Because I live in a two bedroom apartment, I decided to try out the Orbi at a friend's two story, 2400 sq ft home. We placed the main unit downstairs in a home office and the extender upstairs on a table. Setup wasn't painful given how I deal with networking equipment all the time, but the average user may run into a few caveats until they realize they need to open up a web browser to configure the Orbi. Thankfully the Orbi glows specific colors whenever there are any issues to troubleshoot, and the included guide lets you know what each color indicates. He pays for Spectrum's 300Mbps Internet service and tests on a wired connection on his desktop connection averaged 340/22 during non-peak traffic. For the basis of this review, xx/xx is download/upload in Mbps.
I connected my iPad to the 5 GHz network and ran a speedtest in the same room at his office and got 284/19. Pretty close to the advertised speeds he's paying for. An older smartphone he had lying around using only 2.4 GHz 802.11g wasn't so lucky, with speeds of 68/18. I highly suggest you ensure all of your devices are capable of using the less-crowded 5GHz spectrum and 802.11ac to take full advantage of the Orbi's potential.
We ran the same tests upstairs with the extender being not too far from the bedroom, and speeds were nearly identical; 272/20 on the iPad using 5 GHZ 802.11ac and 71/16 on the older smartphone with 2.4 GHz 802.11g.
The best thing I like about the Orbi is for $400 you are buying what is essentially a home networking system for large homes. There are other routers in this price range that don't include an extender while still offering similar specifications. With Orbi you can take the guessing work and hassle out of purchasing both a router and an extender separately, or even worse, having to go back to the store to purchase an extender because the router you just bought didn't cover your entire home.
I give the Orbi two-thumbs up for those who live in rather large households and would to take full advantage of the Internet speed they are paying for.

A decent option to make any car "smart", but...
on September 26, 2016

I kind of understand what Rand McNally is trying to accomplish with the Overdryve, and that is to give any vehicle the ability to enjoy the modern-day functionalities that even standard equipped vehicles sold by car manufacturers enjoy today. Out of the box you get an Android tablet shipped with pre-installed navigation software that can be mounted on your vehicle's dashboard. You can also pair your phone to the Overdryve and use your phone's mobile hotspot feature to power it's online capabilities as well as listen to your music on your car stereo using the included FM transmitter. The mount itself also contains a "commercial-grade" GPS antenna that promises an exceptional navigation experience.
I do wish Rand McNally did a better job at the design and function of their tablet. If you go and buy a budget, sub-$100 Android tablet you will notice that the material quality used in both the Overdryve and the budget tablet are almost identical. There is a lot of light bleed on the LCD display and you can easily bend the panel if you use too much pressure on it. The Android OS also feels very slow and while touted as being able to install third-party apps, it doesn't include the Google suite of apps usually found in most Android phones (Google Play, Gmail, etc.) putting your Overdryve's security at the mercy of unofficial app stores.
If I had to get something like this for my car, I'd probably wait until the second-gen Overdryve. It's nice to see Rand McNally taking on the digital era by entering an already competitive space and what they can be capable of accomplishing, but I think it still needs a bit of work. Here's a good start: add a GSM/LTE antenna to the Overdryve and allow your users to bring their own SIM card and pay AT&T/T-Mobile about $5-$10/month for cellular data access. You'd make this device go a lot farther than it currently can.

Not the best, but not the worst either.

When looking for a new laptop computer, many people understand the concept that a more expensive computer typically has more powerful tech specifications like faster processors, more RAM, larger internal storage capacity, and a larger display with (possibly) touchscreen functionality. This is not the case for the Acer Aspire R 15. At a lower price point compared to other leading brands, this machine gives you competent performance specs at a fraction of the price. That being said, there are some issues about this machine that I'd like to address.
Upon unboxing the computer and it's accessories and powering it on for the first time, I noticed light bleed from the lower-left portion of the touchscreen display, as well as a yellow-y glowing film radiating throughout the display while the LCD screen was displaying a black background with a lime-green Acer logo on center. The machine was booting up for the first time, so I had plenty of time to investigate what was causing the display to look like that. As I touched the screen, I could notice the LCD itself was making liquid waves with just a normal amount of pressure applied to the display. As I applied pressure to the lower-left corner of the display, the lights would bend forward as if they were not permanently attached to the back of the LCD during manufacturing.
Once the machine booted up Windows 10 and showed a bright color background, those issues then disappeared, but only temporarily. It was clear to me that attempting to watch a movie on this computer in a low-light setting was going to be uncomfortable because of the display's lighting issues.
Now onto the machine itself and it's software. The backlit keyboard feels fascinating and is probably one of the nicest keyboards I have ever typed on... it almost feels like typing on a MacBook, somewhat. You also get a 10-key panel which is a nice addition to have. The trackpad is pretty responsive but you may want to adjust the sensitivity if it's too responsive for your own taste.
While this computer does have some pretty impressive specs, like a 6th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and plenty of storage space, it still feels somewhat slow once you've been using it for a few weeks. Windows takes about 2 minutes to load and once you're on the desktop, it takes up to an additional 3 minutes before the computer becomes usable. If playing the waiting game isn't a problem for you, then don't think twice about choosing this machine, but if you're looking for speedy performance from the get-go, I'd recommend looking for a machine with a solid state drive instead.
Overall, this 2-in-1 computer is probably one of the nicest machines I have ever seen made by Acer, and the Aspire R 15 lets it be known that they are starting to up the ante on the quality of their computers so they can be reasonably competent with the likes of Apple, Lenovo, and HP. There still are some issues with quality control, however, and I'm sure Acer is working to ensure that these issues are addressed as quickly as possible. If you do end up picking this computer, I hope your display doesn't have any lighting issues like the ones I personally experienced. The display itself is exceptional, it looks wonderful and movies in 1080p pop in delicious color. Of course, in my personal case, movies with low lighting in a dark room aren't very eye pleasing due to the light bleed on this particular unit.
All it takes for Acer is to improve quality control in their manufacturing and ensure that every unit they make is free of issues before hitting store shelves.

Strongest router I've ever owned

Some might say this is overkill, but the EA9500 is an excellent router for when you need to cover a large square foot area of living space while maintaining fast connection speeds for a home with a wide variety of live devices. While I do live in an apartment, almost every room has a smart connected device. Whether its a smart TV, lightbulb, thermostat, smartphone, tablet, gaming console, and the list goes on and on, there is a wireless signal being transmitted to the main router, and the EA9500 with it's tri-band support and EIGHT antennas has given me excellent Wi-Fi signal and 400Mbps download speeds with instant buffered streaming on all my devices. MU-MIMO support is a huge plus too. As you start upgrading to MU-MIMO compatible devices, you will notice that while everybody is using the Internet connection at the same time, nobody is being slowed down. The price for this router may be quite steep for some, but trust me when I say that this is one router that can get the job done for many years to come.

I am owner of this TV and potential buyers have to be aware they should for now not invested so much money if they're interested in watching 3D content.
Keep in mind Sony has been the main company to push 3D since 2010, there are still plenty of great quality 3D Blu-ray released every month.
The crosstalk (or ghosting) here is extreme on EVERY unit of X930D worldwide (I actually have the Chinese model), nothing can be set properly using the depth parameter, you can hardly fix only one element at a time (for example only menu or subtitle, or only closest objects on screen, middle range, deep, deeper etc...). I have exchanged mine 3 times already and the result if the same.
I can assure everybody it is not a problem of player, cable, glasses, or source whatsoever.
I am a huge 3D fan and have 60 original 3D Blu-rays, which look marvelous on my 1st generation Sony 3D TV. I know what I'm talking about.
This problem has received a lot of complains for last years X850C model and after 6 months of users struggling with Sony Support, they finally admitted and fixed it via firmware update for the 65" but did not for the 55" and 75" sizes.
It seems Sony doesn't want to admit this set also has a disgusting 3D rendering like they kept the firmware in Alpha version.
Please those who already bought the X930D, report your experience on review sites comments and especially on Sony Community Official forum here :

Once the problem will be fixed I will reedit or delete this comment.
This is a shame because to be honest this TV is absolutely AMAZING otherwise.

Why did I see this exact same review on Amazon? Something doesn't add up.
