Great quality security system

Safety, security and piece of mind for you, your loved ones and even your possessions. The world is changing and you need to adapt. Most people have a video doorbell, and those are great to a point, but have a narrowed view depending on the set up. To me the logical upgrade is a strong security camera system. I also believe the system should be simple, otherwise most people will just not deal with it. So if the camera takes care of itself and is low maintenance people are more likely to go for it. The Night Owl 12 Channel 4 Camera 1TB DVR Security System is a solid choice.
So lets start with the cameras. They are 2-way cameras, so that means you can hear what they are seeing and speak back to whoever is on the other side. Sort of a standard option these days, if you consider most homes are being built with video doorbells. They are 2K (which is a very sharp image), full color and they have night vision capability. Also, what I like most about them is the ability to use the spotlight feature.
The cameras are hard wired cameras, so you need to run wires to set these cameras up properly. Meaning, they don’t have their own battery and work off of wifi. They run off and plug into a DVR that in my case is located inside my garage. So if you are comfortable doing the installation, go for it. It was not that hard, but it is a lot more involved than putting up Christmas lights. I am sure there are videos online, but it may be something you want a professional to do if you are not comfortable getting on a ladder to install a camera.
So many systems I researched sell you on the fact that all your data is in their cloud, nothing is local so you don’t need a DVR or some device to deal with. This all requires an internet connection. Since this system is self contained with a DVR that is 1TB, it doesn’t require internet. However, it can be connected to wifi and there is an app for your compatible phone that will give you the chance to get real time alerts and deal with things at the moment they happen.
What I didn’t know about the system until I got it, was that it is expandable and you can add to it. Be it additional cameras or a video doorbell.
At the end of the day, I am very happy with this set up with four cameras. It is more than enough to cover my two story single family home in the front, back and sides. I may add one more camera in the future, but for now I am very content. I think if you would like a home security system, this would be a great option for you or your business. I definitely recommend it and will be getting more parts for this one in the future.

Another win for the Dell XPS line

This is not my first Dell XPS series laptop, so I am well aware of the product line and the various compenant variations that are available. Being a previous xOS follower before getting a Dell XPS, I am nothing short of impressed with the product line. So when I got to try the Dell XPS 15 15.6" FHD+ Laptop - Intel Evo i7 - Intel Evo Design - Intel Arc A370M I was excited to see what it had to offer.
So, out of the box what are my first impressions? Well first it is very thin and light. At a hair over 4 pounds, the computer is pretty light. It easily fits into a backpack our a sleeve carrier if that is your preference. It appears very high end and attractive based on the combination of metal and plastic used. In particular I like the inside being black instead of white like my old XPS model. I say this because the lighted keyboard tends to show up better with the darker keyboard. At least for me it seemed that way after using both. I there are USB-C and thunderbolt ports, as well as an adapter that comes with it to give you USB-A and HDMI options. There is no DVD/CD drive, but good luck finding a computer that has one these days.
I like the size of the touchpad, but I found it to be a bit over sensitive. Maybe that is something I can adjust, I will play around with it a little more and see. The keyboard is great. The response of the keys is very satisfying and the backlighting is superior to my old XPS with this back keys. No complaints with the keyboard what so ever. It has a nice wide and ample layout.
The screen is LED and the resolution is spectacular. It is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA), which for reference I really don’t know what to compare it to. That said, it is very vivid and sharp. The screen size is 15.4” which is perfect. The one thing I would have liked to have on this computer would have been a touch screen. Its is a simple luxury I have gotten used to. I would have liked to have it on this computer as well, however it is not a deal breaker by any means.
As far as performance, this computer is loaded. It boasts the Intel 13th Generation Core i7 Evo processor. As the brain of you computer, it is on the high end of the quality and performance scale. Multitasking is not an issues with this CPU. The computer has 512GB of SSD memory, which is both quality and more than enough for what I need it for. Plus there is 16GB of RAM to handle whatever game you want to play or other demanding applications.
On the flip side, the Intel Arc A370M graphics card is not as high end as the other components and for that it almost seems out of place. It was strange to see a good amount of RAM, with a solid CPU, and then a low to medium end graphics card. I am going to play some games and see how it balances out. Maybe I am over thinking it, but it just seemed out of place for me.
One thing that you don’t really think about with a laptop is the sound quality of the speakers. I just typically accept what it has and move on. But these little speakers really put out some sound and they sound pretty good! Like better that I expected, and I was very pleased.
As expected, this computer runs on the windows 11 platform. Which of course is the latest and greatest right now. And in my opinion a slight upgrade to 10.
So what is the verdict? It is a great laptop. Size is perfect, its ultra portable and does not feel fragile. It is packed with high end components and supported with ample memory and RAM. This is a great laptop for a student, a working professional or anyone in between. I highly recommend it and any of the Dell XPS line for that matter. They make a competitive product at a very reasonable price for what you are getting.

Quality, power packed budget friendly option

So my kid just recently left the next and is on to college. He swore up and down that he wanted a Chromebook, and I was less than infatuated with them after seeing the overused and abused ones he had in high school. I wanted to get him a regular laptop or one from that famous “fruit” named company out of California (we all know who I’m talking about). But he was stuck on getting a chromebook.
Enter the Asus 14” Chromebook model 3401 and my complete re-education of exactly what a Chromebook can do. Out of the box, it is just under four pounds, and is fairly thin. Based on company literature, it is a middle of the road model, but I would have to say it exceeded my expectations.
First the display and overall appearance. What I really was surprised about and love the most is the touch screen! The screen is 14”, so a mid sized screen with a WUXGA (1920x1200) LED display. The image is sharp and vivid. As you type, the keys give a nice response, but not as much as I would like. The keyboard is backlit and shows through the keys nicely.
The device has 128GB of SSD memory and 8GB of RAM. When using the Chromebook and performing more than one task, even a half dozen or more, there are no issues or lags that I noticed. Given that it is a Chromebook, I did not think too much about the 128GB of memory, as you can store most everything in the cloud.
The 3401 is more than capable of handling anything you throw at is and is a well rounded device. It boasts a AMD Ryzen 3 7320C processor. I am not a computer guy, so I am not going to pretend I know the stats on the processor in comparison to others. But it works well with browsing the internet, working on documents and speadsheets, streaming videos and even mild gaming. For that reason I think it is a great option for most students like mine.
The battery life is supposed to be 13 hours. I didn’t test it to see how accurate that is, but I can tell you that based on my usage it seems like it could be pretty close to that. All depending on what activity you are doing I suppose.
The CM3401 is a 2 in 1 chromebook. Meaning, it can be used as a laptop of flipped and used more like a tablet with the keyboard tucked behind the screen. Fairly cool idea for sketching or drawing with your finger, and even when you have some sort of presentation.
The front facing cam takes a sharp image, and has a shutter on it! I usually buy stick on shutters for all my electronics in order to have a shutter on a laptop, but no need here. The microphone seems to work well with no issues according to people I have talked to with it. Additionally, the Harmon Kardon speakers are awesome ( as they tend to be) and give off clear sound with no noticeable disturbance.
Lastly, they CM 3401 has two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, one HDMI port and one micro SD slot. More than enough to do what you need to do. I actually expected it to only have USB-C options like most of the competition, but the variety is an unexpected surprise.
At the end of the day, I would definitely recommend this computer to any student like mine that needs a budget friendly student work horse of a computer for their studies. I am very happy with it and I think you would be too.

Impressive and affordable upgrade

The Terk universal remote is a great option to consolidate all your remotes into one simple control unit. In my living room, I have my TV, surround system, streaming device and I have a DVD player that I usually does use too often. Out of the gate, what I love about this remote the most is it’s price. This is the newer version of the remotes that look very similar. To be honest, I am not sure of the difference with these upgraded models, so you would need to do that research. But for the price point it is awesome, and I would be willing to pay more for it.
You can get these remote with the ability to control 4, 6 or 8 devices. So there is something for everyone. The remote is backlit, and it shines bright with the hit of a button at the bottom of the remote. Simple and very effective. It comes with detailed instructions and it is very simple to get the remote connected to your desired device. Some devices have a few code options, others have 5-6 or more. But eventually you find the one the works.
The remote is rechargeable as well. Just plug in the USB, which is pretty nice upgrade over batteries. The are quick access keys to get to your favorite stations like Netflix and Disney. There are also dedicated buttons for your streaming device, sound bar or TV (etc).
That is where my only issue with this remote comes from. I have a Roku stick on the back of my TV. When I tried all the codes for it, not a single hit. So I tried the suggestions they have, and nothing. In reading other reviews, it turns out I am not the only one with this problem. I think the stand alone Roku devices will work fine, but my stick style one is not working apparently. Everything else works great, so this is a good replacement for two of my remotes. But it simply does not work for my streaming system. Which is disappointing.
At the end of the day, yes, I would recommend this remote. It is small, thin and sleek. You will never need batteries again. Take a good look at it, as it is a very affordable upgrade to your current set up.

Simple budget friendly tabletop fan

The Holmes 16” Tabletop fan is about a simple and as effective as it gets. It’s a niche item people don’t usually use year round, but when they need need a fan you expect it to do its job. This fan is exactly that.
It’s all plastic so it’s not that heavy. It sits nicely on its base and is well balanced. My only complaint about it is that it is a little bit too basic. The body of the fan snaps onto the base, and to me that made it feel a little cheap. But if you look at the price point, you have to save somewhere and maybe that was the mindset here.
But when you compare it to the overall performance, there was no skimping there. The fan simply puts out. They claim to make 25% more air than a standard fan, and I’m not sure it that is accurate or what they are making the comparison with. But it definable puts my other table top fan to shame. It could have to do with the fact that it has six blades vice the standard four.
There are three speeds, using a simple knob. You can adjust the angle of the fan as well to aim it up or down, depending on your needs. And even at the highest speed it’s not very loud. I could definitely sleep with it on.
At the end of the day, you are buying a fan for a purpose. You have a budget and that depends on you. But this is a very budget friendly fan that performs and will suit your needs. I would recommend this to a friend for sure, if they are looking for a simple to put together and operate tabletop fan.

Great basic computer option

This 24” HP Monitor was something that I needed to complete my standing desk since I work from home. My set up is dual monitors on arm style stands, attached to the back of my desk. I wanted to try a quality 24” monitor on one stand to see if I liked the set up, then I would add a second. I was not sure if 24” would be large enough, but after I installed one I knew it was going to work. Mainly, because the arms still make the monitor relatively close so it is not an eye strain. Also, two 24” monitors each with split screens for the various applications I use, allowed me to work on four programs with no eye strain. So this monitor will need a brother here soon (and I think it is on sale right now so bonus!).
As for the details related to this HP monitor, there were a few things I really liked about it. First, it is very thin. Coming in at about 8 pounds with the stand (about ½ pound less without the stand) it is very sleek and modern looking. Before mounting it, I played around with the stand a little. I liked the ability to tilt the monitor on the stand enough to get the good visual angle. I am 6” even, and tend to like to sit in my chair fairly low.
The picture the monitor has is very sharp and vivid. Since I am only using it for work, I don’t mind the 75 Mhz refresh rate. If it were to be used for gaming, I would want more, but I don’t need if for my set up. This monitor is considered to have an HD display, again ample for what I need it for. I do like the feature they call “Eye Ease” or at least I like the idea of it. I really cannot tell if there is lower blue light emitting from the monitor, but if that is true I appreciate that as I sit in front of the monitor often and for long periods of time.
One thing I saw people complaining about is the number of HDMI and VGA ports, as well as lack of a camera. Personally, if you want something with an integrated camera, well get one with a camera! Its not a hit on this one for not having a camera, it’s a hit on the reviewer for using that excuse. And only having one HDMI and one VGA connection is not a big deal for me. I guess people like to daisy chain monitors off each other for something? I run two monitors using a docking station for my laptop, so that is not even an issue. It was an easy plug and play, and a quick adjustment in the settings.
I like this monitor a lot, enough that I will be getting a second one. Again, it does what I need and at the price point it is a great value. It does not have all the bells and whistles by any means, and it is fairly basic in fact. But it is a large enough screen and the picture is awesome. I would definitely recommend this monitor to anyone that is in a similar situation to me or for someone that is watching HD level videos. It is more than enough for your day to day work or homework, and light video use. And I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a monitor for that same purpose.

One thing I saw people complaining about is the number of HDMI and VGA ports, as well as lack of a camera. Personally, if you want something with an integrated camera, well get one with a camera! Its not a hit on this one for not having a camera, it’s a hit on the reviewer for using that excuse. And only having one HDMI and one VGA connection is not a big deal for me. I guess people like to daisy chain monitors off each other for something? I run two monitors using a docking station for my laptop, so that is not even an issue. It was an easy plug and play, and a quick adjustment in the settings.
I like this monitor a lot, enough that I will be getting a second one. Again, it does what I need and at the price point it is a great value. It does not have all the bells and whistles by any means, and it is fairly basic in fact. But it is a large enough screen and the picture is awesome. I would definitely recommend this monitor to anyone that is in a similar situation to me or for someone that is watching HD level videos. It is more than enough for your day to day work or homework, and light video use. And I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a monitor for that same purpose.

Tier One sound quality, frustrating app

The Bower & Wilkins (B&W) iP5 S2 are by far the most high end earbud style headphones I have ever tried. I had high expectations for these headphones, and I would have to say aspects exceeded my expectations, while other aspects fell short. Overall, I want to like these more than I actually do.
Let me start by the unboxing and overall appearance of the item. As most quality products these days, the unboxing of electronics are somewhat of an experience in itself. Same goes for the iP5’s, it really just adds to the experience and anticipation of getting to the device. Once you get them, I was happy to notice right off the bat that they are USB-C. This should be the standard all around, and many companies are going that way unless they use a proprietary option. The case that covers and charges the individual ear pieces is a little larger than most brands I have seen. It has a nice matte finish, which shows prints easily, but is also easily cleaned. Personally, I love matte black and gray, so it was attractive to me. The case has a nice snap to it when you open and close it, which is very satisfying for those fidgety types. The earpieces are fairly large, much bulkier than I would have expected. But in order to have all the features they have, it is only natural that they would be bigger than other brands that only boast a 3-4 hour battery and no noise cancellation. They use silicone cups in your ears, to get that tight seal as well as help hold the earbuds in place. There are alternative sizes that come with it, so you can customize the earbuds to your liking. They look great, feel great (if you like that style of earbuds) and they feel substancial.
As for the ease of use? This is where things became problematic. There is an app that works between your device and your phone. I use an iPhone, but I also tested it on an android. To be completely honest, I got really frustrated and had to put them down for a little while. I could not for the life of me get the device to connect to my iPhone. I went through the FAQ’s and nothing worked. Deleted, unpaired, reset, everything I read to do and could think of doing. Nothing worked. Tried it on my Android and it was no better. I was seconds away from calling their customer service and it just started working when I loaded it again. It has cut out a few time since, but reconnected easily. I have zero clue why it was not working before. One special note related to this. I have not figured out whether or not I can listed to my Apple music using these headphpnes yet. I have only gotten things to work using the apps you can connect to via the B&W Music app. So that is a big deal to me. After I re-read the features of this device, maybe that is the only way to listen to music with them? It is vague enough to be frustrating.
The Bluetooth 5.0 is awesome! I can literally go from one end of the house to the other and it stays connected. Such a difference over my other headphones in that respect. So many other brands are still using 4.0 and I have no idea why. This is such a step forward, huge difference.

Crisp clear hights and mids and hard hitting bass. And the depth of the sound is magnificent. No to mention, it has ACTUAL noise cancellation with sound filtering levels. Meaning, you can block out the sound, or you can let a little or a lot of it through (like if you are out running or have to listen for the kiddos). But the noise cancellation is impressive. Usually when you get a similar pair, the cup plugging into your ear is considered to be the cancelling feature. Not here. This eliminates outside sound almost completely, again similar to an over the ear style set up.
So there you have it, my good and bad with these particular earphones. If I cannot get the apple music to work with it, then I would not get these again. I am a simple person, I like what I like and I am comfortable with the interface of the music and podcast apps I use. I want to plug something in and it works. I have other devices that have a proprietary app that comes with it, but I did not have any issues with them. That said, it is not a deal breaker, as this is by far the best set of in-ear headphones that I have ever used. The sound quality is unmatched by anything else I own or have every owned as far as in-ear options. So I would actually recommend them to the audiophile that willing to fiddle with the app more than I am.

Great price and quality

The Modal nylon watch band is a great option for anyone that wants more bang for their buck. This was the second Modal band I got for my wife’s Gen 3 watch. By far it is now her favorite.
So let me set the standard here. My wife wanted a band that was two things. First, it could fit on an updated model Watch watch when she upgrades later. Also, that she could wash it as she is in the medical field. Wiping it down with medical grade wipes are okay, but soaking it in some soap is a good thing too. So that was the standard I was looking for, that and price of course.
So as far as price, Modal is a great value for their price. I am not going to mention other brand names, but by far they are some of the better made after market accessories for the apple watch.
I got the black 38mm compatible band. It has the look of a strap style band, as it has what appears to be a latch in the middle opposite the watch body. That is actually the adjustment point to make it fit your wrist better. The band stretches, but lays flat and does not twist up at all. Again, it is adjustable so it can be sized to your specifications. The band breathes well and there is no issues with sweat or irritation.
There is not a lot to this. It’s a watch band and I have to say it is just as good as any of the OEM style options. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that wants to have a different Apple Watch band or for someone that likes to switch their bands out. There are a lot of variety options in the Modal lineup.

The Canon Color ImageClass MF753cdw is an office work horse for your small business (or larger) printer needs. For me, I work out of my home as does my wife 50% of the time. This is a solid addition to our small business needs. But being up front here, it has a fairly large footprint sitting at 48 pounds and being 17x17x17. But frankly, for a printer of this quality containing the features I will be discussing, it is fairly compact in size.
As you open the box, you get the laser printer, power cable, telephone cable, DVD-ROM, setup guide, and the associated paperwork. The printer is fairly heavy, so please keep that in mind when you consider where you are going to place it and maybe have someone there to help out for that part. It is nearly 50 pounds. That said, the set up was simple. You can use the CD/DVD they provided, but I opted to use the set up wizard from my PC. Instead of using a wired connection to set up the printer, I did it via wifi. I am not sure how many printers you have tried that have a touch screen like this one, but they are nothing like that of your phone or tablet. They always feel like you need a stylus, and this printer is exactly the same way. That said, you can easily get your way through doing you test page and set up easily using the touch screen provided. I do like the color display on the LCD display, it is way better then the typical mono color non-touch screen displays.
This is a fairly feature packed printer. The most important thing is always print quality for me. After all, you are using this for work so you want a nice product. First for me was the scanner. I did not have a scanner on my old printer and most of the time I ended up taking pictures using my phone and creating PDF’s from them as scans. Short cut for sure, but using this scanner and getting the scan right on your computer helps a lot. Along the same lines, the printer works as a copier and provides some great copies when you need them. Additionally, although I have not tried it yet, this printer has the ability to be a fax machine. Something we needed as well, as believe it or not people still use those things. As far as the printing goes, it is exactly what I needed. I can do anything from printing addresses on an envelope to printing multi colored documents. The resolution is not photo quality, for that I prefer inkjet style printers, but it is still pretty close. It just lacks that glossiness that an inkjet provides. Plus it is fast and it says it does about 35 pages per minute. It’s tray holds about 250 pages as well.
One of the things you need to consider is the price of the refill cartridges. It has four cartridges and each comes in around the $100 mark. You can get high capacity ones that boast double the output (plus) and are around double the price. But the great thing about laser printers is that the cartridges last forever. Seriously, they last for a long time, and investment is worth it.
At the end of the day, it comes down to whether I would recommend this to a friend or not. I would happily recommend this to a friend, and in fact I already have. So I was looking to replace the backyard boring lantern porch light with something more useful. Ive been wanting to add some sort of security to the back of the house, first and foremost to scare critters out of my yard but also for piece of mind. I decided to give the Swann outdoor floodlight with 4K camera a shot. This really hit the mark.
It looks simple and you can’t tell a difference between it and all the others on the market. It’s all the same. Two flood lights and a moveable camera below the lights. Solid plastic weatherproof outside and the lights are very very bright! You can adjust just how bright you want them in the available app. But man they made a difference for me in the backyard. And the install was super quick and very easy.
The resolution for viewing and recording is 4K and you can get some pretty good detail in the recordings. You have the option to purchase cloud storage, but I really don’t need it. It does have a little local storage and it’s sufficient for what I need.
The cool part of the camera is just how well it works in different times of the day. My yard doesn’t not get hit too bad with sun out back, so the recording is perfect during the day. At night, it has really good infrared night vision that picks up pretty solid detail on whatever the camera sees. And it’s accurate too. By that I mean I don’t get false alarms from things like harsh weather or bad wind. It picks up so far only the actual movement of things coming into my yard. Also it has a wide angle lense which gives you a much greater view compared to a standard camera.
The camera also has two way comms, so you can hear what is going on and you can speak to whoever or whatever is on your property. I don’t think I’ll use it for anything other than messing with the kids or telling the neighbor’s cat to go away. But it’s a cool feature.
Swann has an app as well and it’s simple and intuitive. It helps you go through the set up and as long as you have a solid wifi signal you are set. I think it also works with your favorite digital assistant.
I like this product a lot. So much so that I’ll likely get another to add to the front yard. The added security is always good, but the light itself works well and I’m extremely happy I gave it a try. I recommend this product to anyone that is security minded as well as wants something dependable. Swann has been around for a while and this is the first product I’ve used at my house. But it won’t be the last.

If your local store has it in stock. You will be able to tell that when you go through the online check out process and select the store you want to pick up at. Better chance at a larger store, like the ones that have a huge appliance section. Otherwise, you will have to wait for it to get to the store after you order. And it that case, it would probably better to ship it to your home.

What is the process for making a latte? Is there a separate reservoir for cream or milk and if so, can powdered creamer be used since it won't spoil?
The milk frother (shown in the photo on this site) is a separate device. It is a one serving at a time sort of think. Fill it, pour it, clean it, repeat. So no worry about spoiling or powdered anything. It actually works really well. I was really surprised.

can this accommodate 12 muffins pan?
No. Look at the product page for it on the website. At the bottom it shows the dimensions of the trays it uses. Off the top of my head, I think they are 13" wide. So maybe a half dozen size pan at the most, but definitely not a dozen.

Are the volume and lock buttons easy to push with the case on?
They are super easy to use. I had an otterbox before and those buttons tend to be a little stiff. These are not. They protect the buttons well without compromising ease of use. You will be happy with it.
