Love how much it tells me about myself
on October 16, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## What does it measure?
The Withings Body Scan measures a lot more than a standard body fat scale:
- Weight: This is a measurement we're all familiar with and probably most afraid of.
- Body fat percentage: Theoretically, the body fat percentage on the Withings Body Scan should be more accurate than scales that measure through your feet only, as the Withings Body Scan includes a handle that you hold, so it gathers measurements from both your upper and lower body. I found that the readings seemed to be very accurate (at least, it was inline with my previous scale). I also like the app summarizes trends, such as "gaining muscle" to help take the emphasis off your weight reading alone.
- Segmental body composition: I found this feature to be very cool! This shows a 3D model of a human body and shows your fat and muscle mass percentages in 3 different areas of the body: the arms, legs, and torso
- ECG AFib detection: Interestingly, my first reading had to be reviewed before the results were revealed to me (I believe this depends on your state of residence). Much like the ECG feature on the Apple Watch, this features measures your heart for 30 seconds to check for AFib (but it does not detect a heart attack).
- Vascular age: I haven't been able to get this feature to work yet. The scale has been showing an error, but neither the scale nor the app tells me what is wrong or how to fix it.
- Electrodermal activity assessment: This measurement supposedly measures sweat gland activity in your feet. It's interesting, but not really a measurement I know much about. Oh great, something else to worry about. :)
## What else does it do?
- Color display: I like the little animations that show up on the display. It helps make the results easy to understand, and you can even configure it to show the weather and air quality for the day. A nice touch as most people will check their weight in the morning.
- Wi-Fi: My old scale was Bluetooth-only, meaning I would have to unlock my phone, open up its app, wait for it to connect, then finally step on the scale. Some mornings it was a struggle to get it to connect to my phone and I would have to wait until the next day to see if it would catch up on the missed readings. The Withings Body Scan connects directly to my home's Wi-Fi and uploads my stats without needing to open anything on my phone. You can open the Withings app later to review your results and sync with Apple Health. And if you wanted to, you still have the option of Bluetooth.
- Apple Health support: I like that most of the stats sync over to Apple Health with the rest of my information. Some things, like the ECG and Electrodermal assessment, do not sync at this time as I don't believe Apple Health offers an API to developers for them.
## Any gripes?
- A little slow: Sometimes, it can take 5-8 seconds to settle on a weight. As it teeters between .4 and .5 and .6, I find myself thinking, "just pick a number already!" And after that, you have to wait for the other readings one by one. I wish it could do some of the readings simultaneously, like start the 30-second ECG while it (slowly) measures my weight.
- Vascular age: As I mentioned earlier, the scale will simply show "Error: Vascular Age" on the screen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I wish the scale or the app would state what the issue is or some recommendations for next time. UPDATE: On day 4, it finally took a "vascular age" reading, but the app informed me it would need 5 total reading to generate a result.
## Summary
Overall, this is a very cool scale that goes beyond simple weight and body fat readings. It helps visualize where your body stores fat (and muscle), performs an ECG, and checks electrodermal activity. I like that this scale provides guidance on your body fat trends, as some would argue that this is more important than tracking your weight alone. It can even export everything into a summary PDF that you can share with your doctor.

Great starter drone, don't forget the memory card
on October 10, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## What's the difference between the DJI Mini 2 vs Mini 2 SE?
The main difference between the Mini 2 vs Mini 2 SE (not to be confused with the Mini SE, which does not have a "2") is the video quality. The SE reduces the video resolution from 4K on the Mini 2 to 2.7K on the Mini 2 SE. Photo capabilities are the same with the same 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor with a 12MP resolution. Other than the lack of 4K video, the DJI Mini 2 SE has virtually all the same features of the original DJI Mini 2 at a reduced price tag.
# What's included in the Fly More package vs the "regular" DJI Mini 2 SE?
The Fly More package includes 2 additional batteries for over 90 minutes of flying time (the "regular" version only includes 1 battery). It also includes a charging hub, extra propellers, and a shoulder bag. However, a Micro SD card is *not* included which is needed to take full advantage of the camera’s quality.
## Design
The DJI Mini 2 SE is meant to be smaller and more portable than some of DJI's other models. The Mini 2 SE folds up nicely in a small "brick" formation that fits nicely in the shoulder bag included in the Fly More version. This makes it easy to travel with the drone because precious carry-on space is usually at a premium. There are also protectors included for the delicate gimbal and propellers.
## Performance
Like most of DJI’s drone, the Mini 2 SE is easy to control, however it is missing the obstacle avoidance sensors on DJI’s larger drones. The app provides a nice tutorial and allows you to limit the maximum height the drone can fly. The drone also “remembers” where it takes off from and will attempt to return home if the battery gets low, or it loses signal with the controller.
The remote has no built-in screen and requires a connection to your smartphone. It took some finagling to get my iPhone 14 Pro Max (with case) to fit in the controller’s phone clamp, but it did fit with very little wiggle room. However, I find using an older, smaller phone (like the iPhone X) to be much easier to quickly pop into the phone clamp. The bundle comes with both a Lightning, Micro USB, and a USB-C cable that can be stowed away underneath the clamp when the controller is not in use.
The DJI Mini 2 SE is missing some of the photography features of the larger Mavic Air 2, such as Smart HDR photos and HDR video. However, it still offers most of the popular features most drone pilots would want: panoramic shots and “dronie” selfies (where the drone videos you as it flies backwards and upwards).
Annoyingly, the Mini 2 SE has no onboard storage and requires a Micro SD card to save your photos and videos in high resolution (and not even the Fly More package throws in the needed Micro SD card). Without a Micro SD card inserted, the drone can save lower resolution photos and videos to your smartphone via the DJI Fly app.
Although the video resolution is lower than the original Mini 2, the SE version still takes crisp photos and buttery smooth videos (thanks to the 3-axis gimbal).
## Battery Life
Each battery pack gets you up to 31 minutes of flight time. There is no wall adapter included, but the batteries can be recharged with a standard wall charger from a phone or tablet using the included USB-C cable.
## Summary
Despite the lack of obstacle avoidance sensors, the DJI Mini 2 SE is still a great starter drone with its ease of operation and great photo and video quality. Although the Fly More combo comes with extra accessories, it lacks a Micro SD card, which is needed to take full advantage of the Mini 2 SE’s great photo and video features.

Effective lighting, RGB is a nice touch
on September 21, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## Design
The Logitech G Litra Beam LX Streaming Key Light is definitely an upgrade from your standard ring light. Instead of a ring, the Litra Beam LX is a linear array of LEDs diffused nicely to provide a soft, pleasing glow. The light can be used either vertically (so you can set it beside your monitor) or horizontally. There are also RGB lights on the back that add a splash of color to the wall, but it is really for your benefit as your streaming camera will likely be pointed at you along with the light, so the RGBs from the Litra Beam will be out of frame.
The Litra Beam LX requires some easy assembly and comes with a nice, heavy base to help prevent it from tipping over easily. The height is also adjustable so you can place it above your monitor.
## Features
- RGB lights on back: One of the major features that sets this apart from your typical ring light is the colorful RGB LEDs on the back of this light. This can cast some color against a wall in front of you, but since this would most likely be out of the frame of your camera, it's not really beneficial to your audience.
- TrueSoft Technology: This refers to the diffused LEDs that helps you achieve color accuracy while eliminating shadows.
- G Hub Control: If you have other Logitech G LIGHTSYNC periphels, such as keyboard and headset, you should be able to sync them up with the G Hub software via Bluetooth or the included USB-C cable. This wasn't ready at the time of this review, so I didn't get a chance to try this out.
## Performance
The light performs very well and it is easy to control with physical hardware buttons on the unit itself (and hopefully via software in the future). The stepless brightness and "warmth" setting allows you to find the ideal setting for your camera. I do kind of wish there was either a wired or wireless remote to more easily turn it on and off as needed without needing to load up the software. For example: if you're using this for work, it would be nice if there was a quick way to turn it on if a co-worker calls me.
## Summary
The Logitech G Litra Beam LX performs well while taking up less space than a ring light. It's ideal if you're already in the Logitech G ecosystem, but can also be controlled manually with the physical buttons located on the unit.

Awesome Noise Cancellation and Immersion
on September 21, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## What's the difference between the QuietComfort Earbuds II and these Ultra earbuds?
The biggest difference is the addition of "Immersive Audio," or what some companies may refer to as "Spatial Audio" (more details on this later). The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds include all the features of the QuietComfort Earbuds II, but also add support apt-X Adaptive Hi-Res audio (if your phone supports it; iPhones do not at the time of this review).
## Design
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and accompanying case are bulkier than the Apple AirPods Pro, but are available not only in white but in a black color as well. They feature a shiny black exterior with a matte, dark silver "stem" with the Bose logo that also serves as a touch button. Unlike the AirPods Pro, the QuietComfort Ultra earbuds have an additional silicon "wing" that further helps stabilize the earbuds and secure it in your ear. There are two additional "tips" and "wings" included in the package, so you can experiment and find the proper fit for you.
The case has a matte black finish with the charging port located on the bottom and the pairing button located on the back, much like the AirPods Pro. However, the case is bigger than the case for the AirPods Pro, so it will definitely take up some pocket room.
## Performance
### Active Noise Cancellation
While the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are bigger, they also feature bigger Active Noise Cancellation compared to the Apple AirPods Pro. While the focus of the Active Noise Cancellation is on lower frequencies, such as the hum of an airplane or engine, they are also somewhat effective on higher frequencies, such as people talking and babies crying.
My only gripe with these earbuds would be the "whoosh" sound they play every time you place the earbuds in your ear. This is to test the "seal" to your ear canal, but it is somewhat loud and it catches me off guard.
### Immersive Audio
The biggest new feature is the addition of Bose Immersive Audio, which provides a wider sound stage than older earbuds. This makes the music sound like it is coming from all around you, as if you were sitting in the same room as the band. The Bose Immersive Audio feature can be set to two different modes:
- Still: This makes the music sound as if it were coming from in front of your body, even if you turn your head to the side. This can be a little disorienting at first, as it feels like the earbuds are not even there and that you are hearing "real" music in front of you.
- Motion: This setting is a little more comfortable (yet less impressive) as it allows the music to follow your head, so the sound feels like it is always coming from the same direction your nose is facing.
### Aware (with ActiveSense)
As with the previous generation of QuietComfort Earbuds II, the "Aware" setting is still present, which relaxes the Active Noise Cancellation and pipes in the outside world for those times when you need to hear an announcement or otherwise hear what is going on around you.
I really appreciate the "ActiveSense" setting that you can enable for "Aware" mode, which helps prevents loud sounds from being over amplified as it is piped into your ears. For example, if you're walking and someone were to suddenly scream in your ear, you would still hear it, but the volume of that scream would be reduced before reaching your ears. I tested this feature by blaring a Sonos speaker next to me and putting the earbuds in. I could still hear the music, but it was at a much more comfortable listening level.
## Features
- App: The Bose Music app allows you to assign a "shortcut" and customize how holding either earbud works. You can choose from cycling through the modes (Quiet, Immersive and Aware, which you can shorten by selecting two favorite modes to toggle between) or accessing the voice assistant on your phone.
- IPX4 sweat resistance: You can use these earbuds for your workouts as they're rated against sweat, but you cannot immerse the earbuds in water.
- Single earbud use: You can leave one earbud in the charging case and use the other earbud in "aware" mode.
## Battery Life
The QuietComfort Ultra earbuds can last up to 6 hours on a single charge, although if you use the Immersive Audio feature, this can reduce play time to about 4 hours. The case holds up to 3 additional full charges.
## Summary
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds have an impressive new "Immersive Audio" mode that can further enhance the music you're listening to and make it sound as if it were surrounding you. The Active Noise Cancellation technology is also more effective than my AirPods Pro (1st gen), but the earbuds are bulkier than the AirPods.

Great performer in a small footprint
on September 18, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## Design
The Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Slim Hub definitely lives up to its name: it's a thin, silver brick that blends in nicely with my desk. There are 3 Thunderbolt USB-C ports on the back, and there is one on the front that connects to your laptop. There is also a "regular" USB port on the front that I wish was also on the back for a cleaner look, but it does make it convenient if you have to occasionally attach a flash drive (less attractive if you need to plug something into the USB-A port permanently).
The hub is powered by its own sizeable power brick that is separate from the dock, so you can thankfully hide it away under your desk. Normally, some users will frown on a power brick like this, but one of the benefits is that the wall plug is regular size and doesn't block other outlets.
## Performance
The Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Slim Hub performs great and delivers the "one cable connection" we all long for to instantly transform our laptops into desktop computers. It easily delivers video to my ultrawide monitor via a separate Belkin USB-C hub with HDMI, since this dock doesn't have an HDMI port on it. It also connects my keyboard and mouse, my Stream Deck, and my external hard drive, all while still delivering a charge to my M1 Macbook Air. I did a speed test with an external hard drive connected to the hub, and found that it only takes a small performance hit compared to connecting it directly to the laptop.
## Summary
Overall, the Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Slim Hub is a great solution if you have mostly Thunderbolt 4/USB-C devices, a Thunderbolt dockable laptop like the M1 MacBook Air, and a monitor with a Thunderbolt input (or an HDMI to Thunderbolt/USB-C adapter). If you have a lot of USB-A (the original, rectangular USB) devices, you may want to do what I did and compliment this with a USB-C hub with more USB-A ports.

Great, portable combo for hybrid work
on September 7, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## Design
Both the Pebble 2 keyboard and Pebble 2 mouse are flat and compact, making them easy to slip into your bag and transport between and home, work and the coffee shop if you're a hybrid worker.
The keyboard has a sort of "retro" look to it with it's rounded keys. The top row of keys have some notable new functions that weren't always included in previous Logitech keyboards: a dedicated emoji key, a dictation key, and a screenshot key. You can also configure the keyboard shortcuts in the Logi Options+ app, available for Windows and Mac. If you don't want to install the software, you can switch the keyboard between different operating systems as follows:
- Mac: hold down fn + O (the letter O) for 3 seconds
- Windows: hold down fn + P for 3 seconds
- ChromeOS: hold down fn + C for 3 seconds
One item to note is that the keys are NOT backlit.
## Performance
The Pebble 2 keyboard and mouse combo can be paired with up to 3 devices at the same time: first, with the Logi Bolt USB receiver (included) and then 2 additional devices via Bluetooth.
I was hoping that switching between devices on the keyboard would also automatically switch the mouse, but it does not. You need to press the "Easy" (well, somewhat-easy) Switch button on both the keyboard and the mouse to switch between, say, your laptop and your iPad.
Using the keyboard is comfortable, but if you're used to the sharp "click" of a mechanical key, you'll notice that the Pebble 2 keyboard has more of a "squishy" feel to it. It's still nice to type, and a lot quieter than a mechanical keyboard.
The Pebble 2 mouse is also comfortable to use, but if you have larger hands, it might feel a little cramped, as is typical with a portable mouse.
The wireless connection to the Logi Bolt dongle can sometimes get interrupted if the USB port on your computer happens to be near the built-in Wi-Fi antennae, but I've found that using a USB 2.0 extension cable for the dongle typically fixes any interference issues. Connecting over Bluetooth seems to be fairly stable as well, but if you experience issues with dropped characters or jerky mouse movements, you'll probably want to switch to the Logi Bolt dongle if you can.
## Features
- Easy switch between 3 devices: It's simple to switch between 3 devices by pressing the Easy Switch button, but please note that you must switch both the keyboard and the mouse separately.
- Quiet typing and clicking: Both the keyboard and mouse make minimal noise when in use, making it ideal for those times when you need to work without distracting others.
- New function keys: New features like an emoji key, as well as dictation and screenshot functions. You can further customize with the Logi Options+ application for Windows and Mac.
## Battery Life
The keyboard takes 2 AAA batteries, while the mouse takes a single AA battery. Logitech states that the batteries can last up to 3 years (which probably explains why there is no backlight for the keyboard).
## Logi Bolt vs Unifying Receiver
If you have older wireless Logitech devices, please note that older devices use the "Unifying Receiver" while new Logitech devices like this Pebble 2 combo use the "Bolt" receiver. Unfortunately, they're not compatible with each other, so you can't pair a "Unifying Receiver" device to a "Bolt" receiver or vice versa.
## Summary
If you're a hybrid worker who would like to transport their own keyboard and mouse between the office and home, and you want something that is compact and easy to pack, the Pebble 2 combo from Logitech should fit the bill. Just be aware that if you'll be switching between devices, you'll need to press the Easy Switch button on both the keyboard and mouse.

Convenient portable blender
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## Design
The Ninja Blast is Ninja's version of the BlendJet, allowing you to blend up your protein shake while you're traveling or otherwise on-the-go. The motor is in the base, and you simple screw on the "blending vessel" and attach the lid. The lid has a one-touch button that flips open the spring-loaded drinking spout, so you can easily sip directly from the blender.
I like that the Ninja Blast has a 2-step process to start the blending process to avoid accidental starts: you must first press the Power button, wait a few seconds, then press the Start/Stop button.
The motor and blade assembly have some weight to them, and since they need to left attached to the bottom in order to transport your protein shake, it does make this "cup" heavier than your typical travel tumbler.
## Performance
Ninja recommends filling the Ninja Blast in a specific order:
1. First, add liquid/water to the "Min Liquid" line.
2. Fresh fruit
3. Leafy greens
4. Dry or sticky ingredients, like protein powder and/or peanut butter
5. Finally, add ice and other frozen ingredients on the top
Once it is loaded up, turn the unit on, wait for the purple LEDs to stop blinking, and press the Start/Stop button.
I made my typical protein shake consisting of water, a scoop of whey protein powder, some frozen berries, and about 4 cubes of ice. The Ninja Blast handle this concoction with ease. It blends a lot quieter than my AC-powered blender, but still makes enough noise that you wouldn't want to use it around someone who is sleeping. The blend cycle automatically runs for 30 seconds and shuts off, which may seem like a long time, but it did indeed seem to take about 20 seconds for the ice to be completely crushed up. I do wish the power would automatically turn off immediately afterward, because it seems very unlikely that you would need to run it again immediately after one cycle.
The unit was easy to clean afterward: I just rinsed it, filled it a little over the "Min Liquid" line with water, added a small drop of Dawn dish soap, attached the lid and let it make a soap smoothie. This effectively cleaned the blades and sides of the "vessel", but didn't quite reach the lid thoroughly. Once it was done, I poured it out, rinsed the soap out, cleaned the lid a little more, and let everything dry. Easy-peasy!
## Battery Life
One charge is good for about 15 blend cycles, according to Ninja. The unit is easily recharged with a water-resistant USB-C port on the back, so no need to carry a proprietary charger with you when you travel. However, an AC adapter (the part that plugs into a wall outlet) is not included, but you can use an existing phone or tablet charger with the USB-C cable included with the blender.
## Summary
Overall, the Ninja Blast is a great blender when you just need to make one serving. The fact that it is battery-powered and rechargeable makes it great for taking with you to the gym or on vacation, so you can make protein shakes regardless of where you are.

Super convenient to unlock with Apple Watch
on August 7, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
## Design
Most smart locks put a large, ugly block on the inside of your door where the batteries go, but Level created a discreet dead bolt lock where the battery is actually hidden away in the bolt itself. Brilliant! No huge ugly box on the back of the door, although instead of using 4 AA batteries like many smart locks, it uses a less common CR2 battery.
## Set up
If you've ever changed out a deadbolt lock before, installing the lock shouldn't really be any more difficult than other locks. Although, I have yet to replace a lock (smart or otherwise) where it immediately fit and lined up with the pre-existing cutouts, so you may want to have a rotary power tool handy in case you need to widen any of the existing cutouts in your door.
Level's website has a helpful video and checklist you can complete ahead of time to verify that the lock will work with your door.
Once installed, you simply install the battery into the bolt, listen for the greeting chime, then continue setup through the Level app. This does require creating an account with Level (ugh) in order to use the app. The lock pairs easily to the app via Bluetooth, then the app handles adding the lock to Apple HomeKit.
If you already have another lock in your home that uses Apple Home Keys like I did, you will use that same virtual Home Key card in your Apple Wallet for the Level Lock+. Otherwise, a Home Key card will be added automatically to your Apple Wallet, as well as any other members of your Apple family.
## Performance
If you're in the Apple ecosystem, the convenience of Apple Home Keys can't be beat. I couldn't wait to put a Schlage Encode+ lock on my door so I could go out for a run without carrying a house key with me. I simply hold my Apple Watch up to the lock when I get back from my run, and the door conveniently unlocks. A notification with the name of the person who unlocked the door is also sent to all the family members, and this notification even appears on the Apple TVs in the house.
Door unlocking works even if your Apple Watch or iPhone doesn't have a data connection through Wi-Fi or cellular, and even works if the battery dies on your iPhone, as it can still energize the NFC chip. Side note: if you have an iPhone 14 Pro with the Dynamic Island, the Apple Home Key animation is very cool (screenshot attached).
While I wish the Level Lock+ included a keypad like the Schlage Encode Plus, it is available separately (for an added cost) if you need it. With Apple Home Keys, I rarely use the keypad on the Schlage Encode, but it's nice to have "just in case." But in most cases, especially when walking the dog, it's just easier to hold my Apple Watch up to the lock than to struggle entering a code (especially with an anxious dog that really wants to go inside).
Aside from Apple Home Key, the Level Lock+ includes 2 NFC tags and 2 physical, regular keys for opening the lock without a phone, as well as the ability to unlock via touch as long as you have an authorized phone in your pocket with Bluetooth enabled. It's important to note that the NFC tags don't appear to be paired with the lock out of the box, so don't immediately distribute them to family members until you set up the tags through the app.
## Summary
Overall, the Level Lock+ adds the ultimate in convenience by allowing you to unlock your door with just your Apple Watch or iPhone, while still remaining very secure. And if you're worried about relying too heavily on your phone, you can still unlock the lock with other methods, such as the included NFC tags or with a physical "regular" key.

WiFi 6E and mesh are a great combo
on July 24, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
First, here are some of the main questions I had about this new version of the Velop router that I thought you might have, too.
What is new? Is it the “Cognitive Mesh” feature?
Yes, the biggest update for this Velop Pro 6E router compared to previous Velop models is the “Linksys Cognitive Mesh” (older Velops used what is called “Linksys *Intelligent* Mesh”). Linksys states that “Cognitive Mesh is an evolution of the Intelligent Mesh. It combines the benefits of mesh networking with cognitive computing capabilities, enabling intelligent and adaptive data routing, optimized resource allocation, and enhanced network reliability.”
Does the Velop Pro 6E work with other Velop products?
No, *Cognitive* Mesh products are not compatible with the older *Intelligent* Mesh products. Therefore, a Velop Pro 6E unit cannot be used as a child node of an older Velop mesh network, nor can an older Velop node be used as child nodes with the Pro 6E’s network.
How many nodes do I need?
Each node of the Velop Pro 6E system can cover between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet. I typically recommend getting at least two nodes if you have a lot of WiFi devices (even if they don’t need the additional coverage) as helping spread the “load” of all your WiFi devices between several nodes seems to help overall system performance.
Is WiFi 6E the same as WiFi 6?
No. Confusingly, WiFi 6 does not support the 6GHz band (it only supports the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands we’ve had for many years now). However, WiFi 6E, which the Velop Pro 6E supports, includes the new 6GHz band which should help to further cut down on interference (well, at least until everything starts using the 6GHz band).
## Design
The Linksys Velop Pro 6E routers have a new and slightly larger design compared to previous models, but they should still blend into your interior without looking overly “techie.”
Each node has an Ethernet “internet” port on the back (for connecting to your ISP’s modem), as well as one Ethernet port to hardwire a device such as a desktop computer. However, only the first node needs to be wired to the internet; the rest are wireless. The bottom of each unit has an on/off power switch as well as a reset button.
## Setup
The setup process requires the use of the Linksys app on either an iPhone or Android device. The app connects to each node via Bluetooth, making it easy to name the network and set a password. Once the network is set up, there is a web UI available for those like me who like to go “old school” and tweak the router settings from a computer.
## Performance
Prior to the Velop Pro 6E, I used the original Velop mesh network that has been mostly reliable over the past few years and I have been happy with its performance, especially during Covid when it supported multiple people working from home and making video calls. It occasionally needed to be rebooted (maybe about once every month or two), but otherwise didn’t require a lot of attention.
The new Velop Pro 6E appears to be reliable in the few days I’ve tested it. At the time of this review (July 2023), there aren’t a lot of devices supporting WiFi 6E’s new 6GHz wavelength, but it is backwards compatible with existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices which have performed fine with this router and allow me to get the full speed from my Internet Service Provider. The 6GHz band currently doesn’t travel as far as the 2.4GHz or even the 5GHz band, so if you’re using a WiFi 6E device, you need to be somewhat close to one of the Velop Pro 6E’s nodes (clear line of sight is best) to get the fastest speed. I found that when I took my WiFi 6E-supported laptop a few rooms away from the nearest 6E node, the speeds were cut to about 1/3 of the maximum speed.
So do you need to upgrade if you’re happy with your current router? Probably not, as there are not a whole lot of WiFi 6E devices in the wild right now. However, if you’re in the market for a new router, you may as well go with one that supports WiFi 6E like this Velop Pro 6E to help future-proof it for new devices coming over the next couple years. And since the 6GHz band doesn’t currently travel as far as the older 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, you’ll definitely want to look at a mesh system like this one to help ensure that your whole house has 6GHz coverage.

More bass compared to bone conduction
on July 8, 2023
Posted by: TechnicallyWell
If you’ve used AfterShokz (now known as Shokz) bone conduction headphones in the past, you’ve probably noticed that while the sound quality is good, and it allows you to hear what is going on around you, they always struggled to bring a good bass response.
The new Shokz OpenFit headphones continue Shokz’s tradition of letting you enjoy your music while still being aware of your surroundings, but now you can get that with stronger bass.
## Design
The Shokz OpenFit headphones somewhat resemble Beats’ PowerBeats headphones in that they are two separate earpieces that “wrap” around your ear.
Each earpiece is very lightweight (only 8.3 grams), soft, and flexible, so they are comfortable to wear for long runs and walks. However, my ears do get “tired” of them after a few hours, so I don’t know if I could wear these for a whole work day.
## Performance
The Shokz Open Fit headphones don’t actually use bone conduction. The earpieces have tiny speakers on them that are directed towards your ear canal.
By doing so, the sound is more well-rounded and bass is greatly enhanced compared to traditional bone conduction headphones, while still keeping your ears open to the outside world. I’m still able to easily hear cars approaching or dogs barking while enjoying my music during runs. They also work great for podcasts, but are less useful in noisy environments such as public transportation or airplanes, where you actually do need to block outside sounds.
Since the speakers are outside your ear, someone else could potentially hear your music or phone calls if you were in a totally quiet room and someone was sitting uncomfortably close to you. But since the tiny speakers are aimed towards your ear, in most environments, it is not possible for someone else to hear what you hear.
The OpenFit earbuds are also great for phone calls as they feature AI Call Noise Cancellation technology, which aids the microphones in eliminating background sounds, so your callers can more easily hear you. I did some test recordings with white noise playing in the background, and the microphones effectively filtered them out. However, it would still sometimes pick up sounds directly in front of me, such as typing on a keyboard.
## Features
- IP54 water resistance: While the Shokz OpenFit can resist splashes and sweat, they cannot be submerged in water. Workouts are ok, but taking them in the pool is a no-no.
- Single earbud use: You can use either earbud independently while keeping the other in the charging case.
- AI Noise Cancellation for mics: Since these are open-ear headphones, there is no noise cancellation for listening to music. However, if you make phone calls with the earbuds, the mics will help filter out background noise, so your caller can hear you better.
- Controls: A double-tap on either earbud will play and pause your music. To skip to the next track, hold the touch sensor on the right earbud for 3 seconds. To rewind a track, hold the left earbud for 3 seconds. Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the volume directly on the earbuds; you would need to use your phone for that.
- App connectivity: You can download the Shokz app to adjust the sound equalizer and install firmware updates.
## Battery Life
The OpenFit earpieces can last up to 7 hours on a single charge, with the charging case providing up to 28 hours of listening time total. Shokz also notes that a quick 5 minute charge can last up to 1 hour.
## Summary
The Shokz OpenFit earbuds provide better sound (and bass!) than traditional bone conduction earbuds while still giving you the advantage of open ear sound, so you can hear your surroundings while running outside. They are lightweight, soft and stay comfortable for long walks or runs.

MagGo Magetic Portable 5K Battery with Bracket is both a charger and a stand, specifically for your MagSafe compatible iPhone 12 & 13. Using new technology, this can magnetically attach to the back of your phone, providing it a wireless charge along with a strong attachment. The battery also has a bracket that folds out, so that you can stand your phone up wherever you want.

Does it work for any iPhone like the iPhone 11 Pro Max or is it just for the 12 and 13

The iPhone 11 series does not have the magnetic ring in the back, so this power bank will not be magnetically attracted to the iPhone 11. However, you could sit this power bank on a desk, turn it on, and set your iPhone 8, X, or 11 on top to use it like a regular (non-magnetic) wireless charger.

What type of usb do you need to charge this battery pack? Apple sub charger? And do you need to buy a magnetic case for this to use?

You could use the charging brick for your iPhone, but you'll need to temporarily remove the Lightning cable and use a USB-C cable to charge this power bank.
This power bank will work best if you have a magnetic case on your iPhone 12 or 13. If you use a non-magnetic case, the power bank's magnetic attraction will be weaker and it may not stay in place.

Unlock more possibilities than ever with the Pro designed for a Pro like you. The first consumer laptop-to-tablet PC designed on the Intel Evo platform⁹ and designed to light up the best of Windows 11, Surface Pro 8 combines the power of a laptop with the flexibility of a tablet, and every angle in between. Do great things with a larger 13” touchscreen, faster connections with Thunderbolt 4 ports, and extra speed when you need it.

How can I connect a wireless mouse and external storage to the surface pro 8, without any USB ports? Is there something you recommend using?

If you search for a "USB-C to USB adapter", you can find small dongles that will turn a USB-C port into a regular USB port. You can also search for "USB-C Hubs" as some will charge the Surface Pro 8, connect to a monitor, and provide one or two regular USB ports with just one USB-C connection.
Alternatively, you can also look for a wireless mouse that supports Bluetooth if you want to be able to connect a mouse without using a dongle.

The New Definition of High Definition: This FHD monitor feels as good as it looks, packing IPS technology for 178 degrees ultra-wide viewing angles, 99% sRGB color gamut for color accuracy, and AMD FreeSync to keep your eyes up to speed with your imagination.

how do you connect the monitor to the laptop

Some Windows laptops have a regular HDMI port like you might find on a TV. If that's the case, you can use the included HDMI cable to connect your laptop to this monitor. If your computer has an older VGA port, you would need to buy an inexpensive VGA cable to connect to the monitor.
If your laptop doesn't have an HDMI or VGA port, then you'll likely need an adapter. You could call/chat/email your computer's manufacturer and ask what you would need to connect your laptop to an HDMI monitor.

Would this monitor work well with a Macbook Pro?

You'll likely need an adapter to use this monitor with a MacBook as MacBooks don't typically have a regular HDMI port. Go to Apple's support page and search for the article titled "Connect to HDMI from your Mac". This article will show you the different types of ports you might find on your Mac and what you'll need to connect them to HDMI.

Do you carry the wireless charger?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but hopefully this information helps:
There is no wireless charger included with the unit. The Roam comes with a USB-C cable for charging. You cable has a USB-A connector at the other end, so it can be plugged into the "regular" (rectangular) USB ports you'll find on older laptops and phone chargers. It could also be used with a power bank if you wanted to be able to charge the Roam while away from a power outlet.

Hear it all and your music at the same time with these entirely new, entirely open sport earbuds. Sound is what motivates, and Bose Sport Open Earbuds deliver. The exclusive Bose OpenAudio technology produces clear, consistent sound that’s more authentic and comfortable than bone conduction. In addition, acoustic spillage is minimal thanks to speaker placement that’s closer to the ear. A comfortable and secure fit is crucial when exercising. These sport earbuds were rigorously designed and tested to gently rest on your ears while staying put no matter how intense your workout. Bose Sport Open Earbuds also offer up to eight hours of play time (with daily charging), an advanced mic system for crystal-clear calls, and IPX4 sweat and weather resistance. Now you can combine the environment that invigorates you with the content that motivates you.

can one earbud be used at a time to either take/talk on phonecalls?

Looking at the manual, it appears that only the right earbud contains the microphone for phone calls. So if you want to use only one earbud, it would need to be the right earbud.

Wemo WiFi Smart Outdoor Plug gives you total smart control over your lights, holiday decorations and other outdoor devices. Featuring two splash-proof and weather-resistant outlets, you can set schedules and control two devices together from anywhere by using the app or your voice with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Hey Google.* It’s perfect for the patio, yard or other spaces where you’d like to manage electric outlets. You can also use Away Mode to randomly turn porch or landscape lights on and off when you’re not home. Sync lights connected to the Smart Outdoor Plug with the sunset and you’ll walk out to a backyard that’s ready for evening activities.

Does this Wemo WiFi smart plug-outdoor, connect to a mesh WiFi system. I have some Wemo smart mini plugs thatonly connect to 2 ghz routers. The Mesh system I have doesn’t distinguish between 2 and 5 ghz bands, so the Wemo mini plugs do not connect my wifi

I connected the Wemo Outdoor smart outlet to a Linksys Velop mesh system that uses the same SSID for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and I have not noticed any issues with this or any of my other smart devices. It's true some devices only work on the 2.4 GHz band, but it shouldn't matter if the SSID is the same for both bands as the smart plug will only "see" the 2.4 GHz version.

This is for internal use only. Can i turn off floodlights? I don't want a police-type setup.

You can configure the unit to record video only and not turn on the floodlight when motion is detected. However, if you don't plan on using the floodlight, you could save some money by purchasing one of Arlo's cameras without the floodlight.
