The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that the camera looks just like the first digital camera my mom used in the 80’s. Its looks are nothing special. But looks can be deceiving. The features of this little camera are amazing.
First I should say that the camera is really designed for videos, especially vlogging (I don’t think my mother would have known what vlogging was in the 80’s) If you’re looking for a great still camera, you’d be wasting money with the ZV-1. There isn’t even a flash attachment on the device.
This camera just lives to make great videos. What’s nice is, for someone who in not an expert in digital cameras, it runs really well right out of the box. As you learn more about it, you can delve into the menus, but it’s not necessary at the start.
Because it’s primary a video camera, the largest button on the top will start video recording. I love the video stabilization setting. Without it, as you walk around with the camera, the picture is naturally jittery as you move. With the stabilization on, the video results are more like you’re using a Steadicam. Auto focus is very quick. You can set it to either stay focused on your face no matter what is going on around you, or set it focus on something you’re holding up in front of you, and the immediately go back to your face when you move the item out of frame. There’s a windscreen to help get rid of wind noises, a “skin smoothing feature” which gets rid of face blemishes in several steps, slow motion settings, it features one button which blurs the background, making your face stand out and much more.
The optional vlogger kit is a big help. One of the few complaints I had with the camera was that the buttons are really small. The Sony vlogger accessory kit, not only makes it easier to hold the camera, and is also a built-in tripod, but with its large buttons makes it easier to control the camera, and stop and start your video or take still pictures. It links up to the ZV-1 via Bluetooth, and the setup was quick and flawless.
Bottom line, the ZV-1 makes great videos, can certainly be used as a still camera as well, and since it’s so easy to put yourself in the picture, even if you’ve never thought of having your own vlog, this camera might inspire you to do just that.

Great for someone with a big CD collection

Maybe you’re like me. You bought dozens of CD’s back in the day and have not gotten around to ripping many of the songs you like off them. Now you want to listen to a CD, but since your current player doesn’t have Bluetooth you have to go through the house trying to find a cord to connect it to your speaker.
You won’t have that problem with this Memorex player, it has Bluetooth built right in, so now in addition to using your current Bluetooth speaker to listen to songs on your smartphone, you can use this device to listen to all your CD’s as well.

It comes with two AA batteries, so you don’t have to search for those. Just pop them in, push the play button and then press the Bluetooth button to pair. My speaker found the player immediately and I was set to go. There’s a digital readout of course to find the cut you want.
It has a “program” button, so you can select the cuts you want to listen to in the order you’d like. You can also push the ‘electronic skip protection’ button to give you a 40 second buffer in case you are moving the player while listening. I really don’t think that buffer is even necessary, I shook the player while it was playing with the skip protection off and it never missed a beat. It’s nice that it’s there though.
The player comes with wired ear buds with three different tip sizes if you want to listen privately. There’s also a “bass booster” on the device, but I really didn’t hear much difference on several different recordings.

Bad, because when the player shuts off, it loses Bluetooth connection and you have to re-pair every time you turn it back on. This is not a big deal at all, just something you should know.
Bottom line, I’m going to use this player often because of the number of CD’s I bought back in the day. It’s easy to use and for under 30 dollars it’s a great buy.

Built Like a Fine Watch

We just got home from an international vacation, so we really had a chance to test this suitcase. We've never had one in this price range before and wondered what the advantages were. I knew the "Victorinox" brand from all the Swiss Army knives I've purchased. They were excellent build and quality and this suitcase is as well.
You can tell from the time you remove it from the carton and pull up telescoping handle. It just GLIDES up to whichever of the two positions you select. On my cheaper suitcases, that handle often acts like it's stuck in molasses.
I love that this suitcase has 4 wheels, you can either pull it behind you like a two-wheeler, or let it glide along the floor effortlessly on its 4 wheels. And those wheels are amazing. Each of the 4 wheels are 'dual caster'. That means just the slightest pull will have the suitcase follow you in any direction. And all the wheels have Mitsubishi silent rubber tires. The only caution of course is don't leave the suitcase on a slanted floor while you go off on an errand. The case may 'follow you' unexpectedly.
The zippers are also heavy duty which is good because the zipper is often the 'failure point' of a heavily packed suitcase. You don't want to get to your destination and find that you need to stop at a luggage store to get your stuff home again. Victorinox claims these zippers are "self repairing." That's a feature that I'm not anxious to test, but it's reassuring that it's available.

The only negative I can find is that this Victorinox is not the lightest suitcase on the market. It weighs just under 9 ½ pounds so it might be just a little more difficult to keep everything under that 50 pound airline weight limit before they start charging you extra. We felt that slight extra weight was worth it for the quality and longer life we expect to get from the suitcase.

A Safe and Comfortable Keyboard

I’ve used a Microsoft ergonomic split keyboard for as long as I can remember, so I’m very familiar with typing on this type of hardware and was anxious to try out this new model from Logitech.
They’ve come up with a winner. The Ergo K860 takes up less real estate on my desk than my older one. Almost two inches less wide, and an inch less high, and It does this without making the keys smaller or closer together. The keys are scooped for accuracy and work very smoothly and quietly. My older keyboard was attached with a USB cable. This one is wireless, either with Bluetooth, if your computer is equipped, or with a USB dongle if it’s not. It uses two triple A batteries for power, and your first set is included.
What was different to me, and what I was not used to, is that the keyboard is tilted the opposite of my old one. My old keyboard was slanted where the top was higher. This Logitech is slanted where your wrists are slightly above the keys. (It’s adjustable with three positions, the first where it’s basically flat on the desk, next slightly raised and the third even higher). This way your wrists are on the ‘pillowed’ wrist rest, which would reduce wrist bending as you type. I’m getting used to it now, and it does feel more comfortable and I can see where it’s more ergonomically designed.
Finally, I really like the customizable function keys. I just use the free “Logitech Options” app that was already on my computer which previously was giving me control of my mouse. The app found my keyboard immediately and now gives me all kinds of keyboard customization choices. I have one of my keys configured to turn off my computer with just one push. This saves the ridiculous ‘three click’ method, normally needed to shut down a Windows computer.
Bottom line, I’m really happy with this new keyboard from Logitech.

Most Powerful Cordless I've Used

“Cordless” seems to be the rage these days in vacuum cleaners. Most of them sacrifice cleaning power for the convenience of not having to drag a cord around with you and repeatedly plug in and out in different rooms. This LG really rivals the suction power of any plug-in cleaner I’ve used. After I’ve vacuumed with my reliable corded cleaner, I went over the carpet again with the CordZero and was surprised what I found in its dirt cup when finished.
The ‘stick vacuum’ concept makes it very maneuverable. Other manufacturers of stick vacuums have a charging stand which must be mounted on a wall. Sometimes that’s inconvenient. The LG stand can be mounted the same way, OR it will stand on its own. This makes it much more versatile. If you’re working in one part of your house, you don’t have to constantly go back to where you’ve hung the charger, you can just bring the stand with you. Also, it charges two batteries at the same time. One in the cleaner and one mounted below it in the stand, so you’ll always have two charged batteries available to you, and you won’t have to try to remember in which cabinet you placed the extra battery, it’s always charged and ready for use.
The cleaner has three filters and all of them readily accessible and easy to clean. If the filters get dirty enough to impede performance, the cleaner will let you know by alternating the speed of the device to get your attention.

LG says the battery life is 40 minutes per battery at the standard speed. Using the cleaner at maximum turbo speed it’s more like 8 minutes per battery. If you’re unfamiliar with battery operated cleaners like this, that actually is pretty good. And you’ve always got that second battery available to just slide in, and can be charging the other one while you’re still using the CordZero.
On the negative side, we just put new plush carpeting in our bedrooms and the CordZero is noticeably harder to glide around the floor than our other machines. My wife tells me the reason is that it’s really getting down into the carpet pile and pulling up dirt that other cleaners miss. Looking in the dirt cup, I can see she’s right, but just know that if you’ve got lots of thick carpeting to clean in your home, it may be more tiring than you’re used to. On the other hand, it floats along bare floors and rugs with ease.
Also I would have appreciated some LED lights illuminating the floor. At this price point, I’d think that would be an included feature which it is not.

Bottom line though, if you’re looking for a well built, solid, cordless vacuum cleaner that WILL do the job of a corded cleaner, you’ll be well advised to get the CordZero.

Industrial Strength Speaker!

I’ve worked in radio broadcasting for many years and have worked with dozens of professional speakers and I’d be proud to use this one on one of my remote broadcasts. It’s that well made.
This thing is SOLID. You pick it up and you can feel the quality. It weighs a little over 6 pounds but is easy to carry with the heavy-duty cloth strap on the top. I did some research on their website and the unit has two 5-watt tweeters and a 10-watt woofer. And did I mention that this speaker is LOUD? Seriously, I’ve never heard such powerful but clear sound powered by Bluetooth coming out of my Smartphone. Trust me, this one speaker is all you need for a party in your backyard. One charge keeps this baby running for over twenty hours! When you do need to charge it, it comes with a power cord that you plug directly into an AC power outlet. No need to search for a USB source of power to keep it running. (It also comes with a 2 prong European power cord in case you find yourself over there). The back of the speaker contains a USB output so you can plug in your Smartphone and keep it charged while the speaker is on. Inside the little door on the back where you plug in your power cord, is a 3.5 mm input jack for a wired source of music, if you’d like to use your speaker that way.
It’s really perfect for outside use. It’s rated IPX2 for water resistance which means you don’t have to bring it in for a light drizzle or splashing, but if it really starts raining you’ll want to keep it covered.
All the buttons on the speaker are flush to the cabinet, so you’re not likely to accidentally hit a button or have a button break off in transporting the speaker. There are five buttons on the top to control your music. It’s nice that there is are up/down volume controls up there. Many Bluetooth speakers require you to raise and lower the volume through your phone or other source of music. With this one you can change volume plus pause or skip to the next song or go back to the previous one if your music source will allow that.
The bottom line here is that there are several speakers available at this price point, but if you’re interested in one, you really need to audition this baby at your Best Buy store. But you’d better do it with a salesperson near you, otherwise someone is sure to come over to tell you to turn down the volume!

Most Portable Mouse Ever

This new portable Logitech mouse is perfect for carrying with you on a business or pleasure trip. Pop it in your briefcase or even in your pocket and you won’t notice it’s even there. I weighed it on my postal scale and it comes in less than 3 ounces with the battery!
Now it’s not loaded with a zillion features. For less than 30 dollars you wouldn’t expect it to be, but it’s a solid performer. The two buttons were quieter than any other mouse I’ve used. When you “click” them, you get the appropriate tactile feel, but it’s almost totally quiet. If you’re working in a library, you’ll not disturb your neighbor with this mouse. It connected instantly via Bluetooth to my laptop. It also can be connected wirelessly with the included USB dongle if your computer isn’t Bluetooth capable. I have to admit I couldn’t find the dongle when I first opened up the mouse package. Reading the instructions I discovered the dongle is stored INSIDE the mouse along with the included AA battery; Very clever, because you’ll always have this dongle with you, in case you need to use the mouse on a business trip in a new computer. That AA battery should last for well over a year, since it automatically goes into sleep mode when not being used. I also loved the way it tracked perfectly on my shiny kitchen counter. I’ve used a few ‘mice’ which did not work at all on that surface.
It was hard to find anything negative to mention, if I had to pick something, I find the mouse not quite as comfortable as my Logitech MS Master 2S with all its features that I’ve gotten used to, but that mouse is would be really bulky for me to take on a business trip. This one is perfect for portability and for its price you can’t find a better mouse to take along with your laptop. Just remember to turn the power switch “off” before you pop it in your pocket.

Heat Feature is Great

OK, this has happened before. My wife and I are ready to prepare the frosting for her cake and she suddenly realizes, “Uh Oh, I forgot to take the butter out of the refrigerator.” Now we have to wait for more than half an hour for the butter to soften.
I should say we HAD to wait, because that was in the past. This Oster Heatsoft hand mixer takes care of that problem. Pushing a button sends hot air down through the beaters and blended the unsoftened butter and sugar mixture easily and quickly. If she needed just a little more power, a quick press of the “Turbo” button powered the beaters through easily.
We found that the mixer was not heavy for the power it generated. We’ve had other less powerful mixers which weighed more. Cleaning was easy. A push of a button dropped the beaters into the sink. We liked the magnetic nozzle. It pulled right off, could be washed in the dishwasher and then when you go to put it back on the mixer, the magnets ‘grab’ it and it pops right back into place.
The only negative we could find was the instruction pamphlet mentions a convenient storage case which would be great to keep all the parts together. We could not find it for this model looking at the Oster website. Having the case included with the mixer would have been great.
Otherwise we were very happy with this mixer. It’s light and powerful and that heating feature was really a nice touch.

Good Outdoor Party Speaker at this Price

The Insignia Sonic Bluetooth Speaker is a real value from Best Buy.
Speakers with this solid, heavy ‘outdoor water resistant’ design from other manufacturers often sell at a much higher price. The speaker paired instantly to my Bluetooth source. I just turned it on and it’s already in pairing mode. My device was about 30 feet from the speaker, and it connected instantly. No audio dropouts from that distance either.
The sound was bright, clear and LOUD if you turn it way up! I have a pretty big back yard and it filled it with party music. The speaker has two drivers to give you stereo. If you really want to go all-out, you can buy two of them and then when wirelessly connected one speaker will give you just left channel, the other just right channel. At this price purchasing two for real stereo separation isn’t that unreasonable.
If it starts raining at your party, you may want to rush to bring the food in but don’t worry about the speaker. Its water resistance is classified as “IPX5.” That means it’ll do just fine in the rain.
Its battery life is EXCELLENT. You can get almost FORTY hours of runtime on a single charge. I don’t think even the craziest parties will run that long, so your music will not stop.
You can also hook up the speaker to a wired source, such as a computer if you like. You’ll need to provide the standard 3.5 mm. audio cable, but if you’re like me you probably have a dozen or so of those things lying around the house.
On the minus side, the bass from the speaker wasn’t quite as strong as the more expensive speakers from other manufacturers, but this speaker was also smaller than most other more expensive models.
Bottom line, this rugged speaker would be a great addition to any outdoor event you may have planned.

One Serious Air Purifier

We’ve used less expensive air purifiers over the years without really much effect.
This IQAir Healthpro Plus is a totally different animal, and if you’re serious about breathing cleaner air in your house, you may want to consider it. I’m happy about the fact it does NOT use ozone to clear the air. Ozone can cause its own set of problems as you can read about online.
This IQAir Healthpro Plus is a totally different animal, and if you’re serious about breathing cleaner air in your house, you may want to consider it. I’m happy about the fact it does NOT use ozone to clear the air. Ozone can cause its own set of problems as you can read about online.
As you’ve probably read in other reviews, the Healthpro Plus is SOLID; 35 pounds and sits on the floor. It’s well made in Switzerland. It has ‘quality’ written all over it. To be worth around $900 it would have to, and it does. It can handle smoke, pollen and dust with ease.
I was delighted to see after I unpacked it from the box, that it’s completely pre-assembled except for the 4 casters you can install on the bottom. (The casters are not necessary for operation.) You can just place it on the floor, plug it in and turn it on.

My 10-year-old granddaughter has severe allergies to pollen and dust. Also, there’s a horse barn just a block away so she’s often in distress, with her Benadryl and inhaler always close by. Her allergist told us the importance of a good air purifier. He said if she uses it for the 8 hours that she’s doing homework in her room and sleeping, the pure air will help her body “reset” to fight the allergens she’s going to experience the next day.
The Healthpro Plus has all kinds of programmable features, you can schedule it to run at different times and different speeds on different days of the week; programming it did seem kind of complicated. Fortunately, in our case, she just taps the power button once in the evening and the same button turns it off when she’s ready for school the next day. The unit remembers the fan speed selected.
To put the unit to the test, we bought an air quality monitor and was curious to see how the Healthpro would work in a scientific manner. It measures atmospheric particulate matter in both 2.5 and 10 micrometers. 2.5 micrometers is about 3 per cent the diameter of a human hair. On the day we tested, before we turned on the Healthpro, we were measuring an average of SIX to EIGHT ug/m3 of both. According to the EPA, hitting a level of 12 would be of moderate risk in sensitive individuals. We turned on the unit and let it run for half an hour in my granddaughter’s room. We returned to find the level at ZERO, occasionally spiking at 1. Our faces lit up, but not as much as our granddaughters the next morning when she woke up. She didn’t have the watery eyes and sneezes which usually greeted her in the morning. Just seeing her that happy was worth the relatively high cost of the unit.

Will the new 'nest' camera show up in the Nest app, or will I have to use two apps (Google home) if I have old Nest cameras?
This camera will ONLY work with the Google "Home" app and will NOT appear on your Nest app.

No, for some reason this camera does NOT work with either the Nest app or home.nest.com. You can NOT see the output of the camera on your computer.

Previous reviewers are saying it's not compatible with the Nest App that my current doorbell and outdoor wired camera is on. Is this true? Can I integrate this camera with my Nest App and other cameras?
Unfortunately this camera is NOT compatible with the google Nest app which to me is a huge disappointment.
You have to use the Google "Home" app which does not work with a PC. So you can't even see the camera's output on a PC, which you obviously can with their other cameras.

How long does it take to charge one of these cameras? I would use it primarily overnight so during the day we would charge it whenever the battery is running low. Speaking of low battery, will the app display battery life remaining?
They claim that under normal use the battery should last about a month. Charging from zero to full should take about 5 hours.
