Regarding your concern, your Washer is designed to use high efficiency (HE) detergents. For best cleaning results, use a high efficiency detergent such as Tide HE, Wisk HE, Cheer HE, or Gain HE*. High-efficiency detergents contain suds suppressors that reduce or eliminate suds. When fewer suds are produced, the load tumbles more efficiently, and cleaning is maximized. Regular detergent is not recommended. Please use HE detergents only

Yes, it's fine to use powdered detergent in the WF42H5000AW, as long as it's formulated for use in HE Washers. Be sure to remove the Liquid Detergent holder from the compartment before adding powdered detergent.

This and other Samsung Front Load Washers have leveling legs so you can adjust and balance the Washer to maximize the performance of the Vibration Reduction Technology. Instructions can be found in the User Manual which comes with the Washer and can be downloaded in advance as a pdf file from Samsung's website.

I would suggest checking the water connection to make sure the hot and cold hoses are connected properly. The presence of steam may be normal depending on the difference between the temperature of the clothes/water and your laundry room, especially since the cold and eco warm settings may use hot water mixed with cold to achieve the goal temperatures, depending on your home's tap and water heater temperatures.

This and other Samsung HE Front Load Washers have several features to help ensure they drain properly and to prevent odor-causing bacteria from flourishing. When installed and leveled properly, water should flow to the available drains and exit the machine. It's important for the drain hose to be installed properly to prevent back-flow into the machine; the debris filter should be cleaned regularly, and there's an auxiliary drain hose next to the debris filter that can be used to drain excess water, or in the event of a power outage. Samsung Front Load Washers are also equipped with a Self Clean+ program which doesn't require any additives but should be run every 40 cycles to help keep the drum clean and fresh-smelling.

The WF42H5000AW is no more susceptible to mold and mildew than other washers and actually includes Samsung's Self Clean feature which, when used as recommended, helps to prevent mold and mildew from developing. Be sure to follow the instructions in the User Manual for cleaning and maintaining the Washer.
