If you just need to get the info off the drive and aren't planning on using it full time as an external drive, just hook up the connections without actually putting it in the enclosure. Get your info off and store your drive for later use if you need to. Also, sometimes when you pull a laptop drive out there are mounting brackets that you still have to remove, and that might be your problem. Check it close and see if that might be the issue.
My Dell studio 1535 crashed. I got the hard drive enclosure and connected it to a different laptop. I have new files but I cant open them as im told Start Rep.exe is not a valid win.32 operation. What does this mean?
Sounds like you're trying to run an application from the drive you pulled out of your Dell. Some programs will work but most will be required to be reinstalled as they have required entries in the Windows Registry. Think of the windows Registry as a library of instructions for all your installed programs that tells Windows how various functions of the applications work. If they aren't in the registry, Windows doesn't know how the programs are supposed to work.
After doing some looking, that error appears to be one of 2 things. Either there are bad sectors on the HD or something is wrong with the registry. I would recommend taking the HDD to a professional to have them look at the HDD itself.
It might be slightly slower than being internally installed. It shouldn't be that noticeable however. The biggest advantage the enclosure provides is allowing you to connect your hard drive to multiple computers and have all your data available across all of them.
Correct. This enclosure does not support UASP. It's not meant to be a beefy enclosure. It's a low cost enclosure that supports USB 3.0 and is USB powered.
PS3 hard drives are different than regular hard drives- they require more power. You may need to find an enclosure with a power cord to make that work.
The only way i know is to plug in the drive and listen to it to determine if the drive is still spinning and powering up. If so you should be able to retrieve the information.
Installed the drive and it worked fine. After about one hour it started making clicking sounds then quit working. The blue light flashes. Have tried accessing the drive on four different computers with no luck. Trying to do so even crashed the hard drive in one of them!!!!!!
The clicking noise from the HHD in the enclosure is an indication of HDD failure. Not sure why your system crached, just remember to be care full with these types of USB devices, there is no eject option like a flash.
