I'd like to get a new 3.5 500gb pata ide hard drive for my xp computer. Don't laugh, I do have a Win7 laptop, but a lot of my XP software either doesn't work or works poorly under Win7. Know that MS is killing their XP support in April, so I want a clean hard drive with all the latest XP upgrades before the support goes away. Much cheaper than buying all the new software to run on Win7, and don't even think about suggesting Win8. Have yet to find a single person with a laptop that cares for it.by

The old hard drive on my original machine begin to hang up and give me problems and I liked Windows XP. The original hard drive was 250 GB. The new installed 500 GB hard drive is working fine now and I'm still using Windows XP.9 years, 5 months ago

You can certainly do that with ease; however, I would question your decision to keep running XP. If cost is an issue, you might want to switch to Ubuntu. It doesn't work perfectly with every single program but it's free, and I'd suspect that if you are using XP vintage programs Ubuntu would be compatible.9 years, 5 months ago

I bought the Seagate 500gb for use with win 7 and works great! Hard a copy on Win 7 so only cost was HD which was very reasonable.Go get it and update asap

As long as you have Serial ATA....which I presume you do if you are even thinking of installed Windows 8. It is SATA III, but will run at SATA II speeds if that's all your controller supports.by

Looks like your model of computer has a SATA type hard drive so yes it will work fine. If you are replacing the main hard drive in your computer and not adding this as a secondary hard drive then you will need to reinstall Windows.by

While our Seagate Barracuda 500GB Internal Desktop Hard Drive will work on most Desktops that support SATA 3Gb/s connections, it would be best to contact HP directly to verify that this drive will work with your specific Desktop computer as we would not have that information here.by

This is not a notebook hard drive, and will not work in any kind of notebook. If using a MacBook, I would recommend just throwing your present inferior and unsuitable macbook away and buying a brand new one.by

You would not likely see a speed increase at all unless your current drive is failing and has dropped well below performance specs and/or your current drive is nearly full, thereby greatly affecting use of the OS's swap file.by

The Barracuda 500GB Internal Hard Drive listed is for Desktop systems only. Since Macbook Pro's are usually laptop systems, this drive will not fit into this computer. We do have many laptop drives available, and we have listed a few under "My product recommendations". The emachine specs would indicate any manufactures 3.5 inch internal SATA drive should work ok. It is an older machine and you may have issues with drives over 1TB in size.by

There's usually two types of hard drive. Desktop or Laptop. Sata is the only connection being sold on the market today. If you have an old computer, you may have to special order an IDE connection, but that's outdated. You can pretty much choose any size with the newer computers.by

No. This will NOT work in a PS3. PS3's require NOTEBOOK size hard drives (also called 2.5" hard drives). This is a 3.5" or DESKTOP size hard drive.You would need a SATA (or Serial ATA) Notebook (or 2.5") hard drive.
