I would like to mount the tv over a fireplace in a pretty small room. When everything is in the least extended position, how far does the tv stick out from the wall? Does it dominate the space, or is it smooth and compact? Thanks!
6.5 inches from wall to front of TV. Not too invasive. When there are limited places available to mount it is well worth the convenience of having it up off a TV stand/cabinet and the flexibility to move the TV and tilt it.
It collapses to just about or under an inch from the wall. Depending on the thickness of your tv, (mine is relatively thick) all in all its about 2.5 inches from the wall. I was concerned about the same issue but I love the product and it looks great on the wall.
Hello, Thanks so much for the question. Here is a link to the technical drawings of the mount: http://www.sanus.com/assets/products/vmf518/documents/VMF518_6805_002075_XXX.PDF You will find all desired measurements in this file. Thanks again, Michael with the SANUS Care Team
What are the dimensions of the VMF-518 Full-Motion Wall Mount's wall bracket? I have a small spot on a wall to attach the mount so I need to know the dimensions of the back of the mount that attachs through the wall to the stud as opposed to the total dimensions of the bracket.
The part that actually attaches with 2 lag bolts to the stud is 3" wide by 8-1/4" tall. That's all that sits on the wall. There's a swing arm (triple-knuckled) that comes off from that that the tv hangs on. I've got a 48", very heavy tv on mine and couldn't be happier. Hope this helps.
This particular mount attaches to a single stud so the mounting bracket is only about 3-4 inches wide. It mounts with two 5/16" lag bolts so it is plenty secure.
Just wondering why it won't tilt or if there is something I'm not doing to make it tilt correctly? I followed all the instructions in manual but TV will not tilt forward or back.
I just installed mine today and I noticed that the "level" (see page 20 of instruction manual) was snug. This affected the tilt up and down also. Just required a lot more effort to move for level (or rotate on center axis and tilt up and down ) Are you sure you mean tilt (again, see page 20 of instruction manual that shows the difference)? I did not experience any binding at all for tilt left to right. Confirm that there's nothing creating a bind when you try to tilt.

It is super easy to remove the TV from the swivel. Just one turn of a screw, lift up and out. You may need 2 people depending on how high you have it mounted.

This product will work for any TV up to 50 inches. The swivel to the left and right and extension out from the base is great. I often use that feature to watch TV from my adjacent dining room.
The MountFinder on Sanus said it was the top recommendation, but the gap between recommended size is pretty big, even though it's under the weight limit.
If by connecting a soundbar you mean hanging it under the tv on the bracket, then the answer is no, you cannot do that with this. If you've got a separate soundbar, it does have channels with clips to hide any wiring coming up to and going back from the tv, but the bracket is just for the tv..
No it only connects the TV but I did install a sound bar below the TV and purchased a separate sound bar wall mount for that. It lays flat on the wall and blends in with my TV beautifully. I also purchased a power bridge so both the sound bar and TV wires are all hidden in the wall
you have to buy an additional bracket for that. I did and it works pretty well -- sound bar is attached but not a totally snug fit up to the tv -- I have been happy -- best buy sells the bracket as well
Hello Sanbeliever, Thanks for the question. Yes, we have a Soundbar mount that works with all TV mounts and TVs: http://www.sanus.com/en_US/products/mounts/sa405/ Thanks again, SANUS Care Team
You certainly would need the next size up since you have a 52" TV. This one extends out from the wall 18". It would depend on where you place the wall mount and if your other room has a direct view of the wall you would place it on.
This mount goes side to side and pulls out but does not go up and down, You can lay it flat or pull it out and turn completely side ways. I have my TV mount installed on a flat wall but I have the TV diagonal in a corner. I saved a lot of money with this mount while accomplishing what I wanted. If I would have bought the mount for a corner it was $150 more but I bought this one and got the same results as if I bought the corner mount. This is a great mount.
I guess this really depends on how much of an angle you need but for us we use this mount to cover three connected and open rooms (living, dining, and kitchen areas. While I am not certain on the exact angle I can say when the TV is moved to be viewed from the kitchen I cannot see the screen in the living area. It's the same if the areas are switched. I wasn't certain what to expect when I purchased this mount and I did think it was a little pricey at first but it has met all my expectations regarding ease of movement and usefulness. Hope this helps.
I bought a Sanus Premium Full-Motion Wall Mount for Most 40" - 50" TVs - Extends 18". I can watch the TV very well from an extreme side angle. I highly recommend this product.
The arm length needs to be at least half the total width of your TV, with a 52 inch Samsung this will be about 25 inches. The VLF525 or LF228 should get you this degree, not the VMF518. Thanks for checking! - Scott
