Apparently, Testament's label at the time pressured them into doing a more radio-friendly sounding record. This was the result: a darker and heavier album that maintains the Testament thrash sound. Unfortunately, their label was displeased with the results especially when the album failed to match the success of their previous albums....but don't let that affect your decision-making here. Testament's The Ritual is an underrated gem that showcased a more slower and melodic style while keeping the thrash elements intact. I avoided it for so long thinking it might be pretty weak, but it's far from it. Check it out.

I honestly don't get some of the hatred towards this CD. Yeah, so Testament chose to record some of the best songs from their first two albums The Legacy and The New Order. I forget why they did it exactly, maybe they wanted to remaster the original albums, but it didn't seem possible due to record label politics. Something like that. But I think it was a wise choice to do this because you're basically hearing the songs as the band would perform them now. The crystal clear production quality might put some fans off. Either way, it's highly recommended if you love the music.

Now with bass wizard Steve DiGiorgio returning to replace Greg Christian, we have Brotherhood Of The Snake, a looser yet heavier album compared to their last two. With Metallica's new album just around the corner, we can end the year with some awesome thrash metal.

The latest Pantera reissue is the heaviest and darkest of their discography, and was their last great one (apologies if you liked Reinventing The Steel) before the disbanding of the group and the unfortunate death of Dimebag Darrell. The remastering of the album and the bonus CD The Great Southern Outtakes are the main reasons to pick this up if you liked the album.

Italy's Destrage are quite the catchy metal band that blends Dillinger Escape Plan with Jane's Addiction and Van Halen. If you don't get that, just listen to the music. With that said, A Means To No End is similar in style to their last album, but showcases a heavier yet catchier sound that will leave you hitting the playing button again after you're done.
