Is this a bargain-priced gaming laptop? It sure looks that way!
With a generous 15.6” Full HD screen, an 11th gen Intel i5-11400H processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti and a 512GB SSD this appears to be a smartly conceived gaming laptop that is high on performance even without the latest and greatest processor.
It comes with an easily removable 14.4V, 49W battery. Though a touchscreen is absent, the display’s 144Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA card provide sharp images with no discernable lag. The built-in webcam is going to be put to good use whether for gaming, school work or any old use.
The rear facing ports include power, HDMI, Ethernet and Display Port for easy connection to an external monitor. No complaints here.
The left side sports a high speed USB-A and standard USB-A port as well as mic and headset jack. On the right can be found another high-speed USB-A port, its only USB-C port and an SD card slot.
Let’s dive in.

**THE SETUP**
At 4.5 pounds, this is not a heavyweight for its size. Surprisingly nimble, setup was easy and typical for a gaming laptop that is also expected to be able to handle everyday use for students. Its sweet-spot sub-$1000 pricing makes it an even more attractive package that is above entry level yet below high performance which is going to easily cost twice the price or more.
Set up for maximum performance OR optimizing battery life is up to the user.
Removal of a few screws reveals the inner workings, a slot to add more and better RAM, and the fan setup to exhaust the heat from taxing the processor. There is also space for added internal storage, but that would defeat the purpose of this budget rig.
A 720p webcam is fine, not great, for gaming and meetings.
Bluetooth 5.2 is included.
Adjustment of keyboard backlighting is easily accomplished.
Settings made to this user’s preferences, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
It’s funny. Prepared to NOT love this rig, this user is impressed. Gigabyte is about gamers making computers for gamers, and meeting their needs at a good price point. Mission accomplished. Have no fear that younger students getting started in gaming will be thrilled just as it is. They will also be satisfied with the performance while using it for studies that include STEM apps.
It is easy to see that the Gigabyte G5 MD would be an ideal gift for the young gamer and student just getting started in gaming. Even equipped as it is, gaming is a pleasant experience without significant choking when taxed.
Wi-Fi 6 AX works well in this home with a tri-band mesh router and there is no performance lag, though best performance will always come from Ethernet connectivity.
Popular games including Doom look and perform admirably. Add great sound from DTS:X 3D Cinema with virtual surround through 7.1 channels for an admirably immersive experience.
**CONCLUSION**
Compromises that are mitigated by stellar performance at its price are what sets this and other Gigabyte computers ahead of the competition. This is quite a bargain!
Look no further. This is the real deal and comes with a solid recommendation.

This new model is an upgrade from a nearly three-year old 24” Dell AIO with its speedy-for-the-times Intel Core i7 processor and Intel graphics. In its day, the 24-inch matte finish touch screen was state-of-the-art for an everyday use family computer.
That extra three inches of screen real estate makes a HUGE difference!
Set up was easy, thanks to Dell’s prompting through the process.
An upgraded wireless keyboard and mouse is included, as compared to my previous Dell AIO. The keyboard has a better, more substantial and professional feel. The mouse has a beefier feel.
Moving data from old to new, for those who need to do such things, can be accomplished through several options, including the user’s cloud storage or the user’s own external backup drive.
Yes, it takes time to populate the new computer with the desired apps as on the previous model. Yes, it takes some time to do all the personalization one may wish to do, but the rewards are manifold, at least until the user wishes to upgrade to what’s newer in the future.
Part of any new computer setup process includes Window software and hardware-specific updates, of which there were several. Depending upon the user’s Internet speed, wired or wireless (I always prefer hard-wired Internet connection), this can take several hours, and it did. Patience is a virtue.
Additional software that is included with this new Dell is Trend Micro Internet Security (3-Device) (6 Month Subscription) for Android, Apple iOS, Mac OS and Windows (digital download). Also included in the Trend Micro product is identity protection and parental controls.
Finally, in the area of included software, is a trial of the Microsoft 365 Suite. A subscription may be purchased or the software may be deleted if the user has an existing Microsoft Office or 365 subscription that may be transferred from a previous PC. Alternatively, users are free to download and use any other Windows-compatible Office-like suite including those that are without cost, yet fully compatible with the Microsoft products.
Now, with the initial setup completed, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
The first impression is that this Dell Inspiron AIO 7710 starts up very quickly, as well it should. How will 16 GB of RAM perform? Will an upgrade to 32 GB RAM be a considered?
The short answer is that this new Dell is so well equipped that nothing else is needed, and certainly not required.
Whether for everyday computing chores or for everyday gaming, amateur audio and video editing, there is nothing that comes to mind to be added to a wish list. Nothing.
There was an initial concern that the shiny display would be a distraction as compared to the matte finish on the previous 24-inch model. Concerns quickly disappeared.
The fans are barely audible unless the processor is pushed hard, such as when rendering video. Even when pressed, fan noise is unobtrusive.
The built-in SD card reader is handy for photo use as well as with MicroSD cards using an adapter.
Should the user wish to use an external monitor for a dual display setup, this, too, is a built-in capability.
The free, downloadable MyDell Mobile app for iOS and Android is a handy companion with useful setup tutorials and numerous tips and tricks. In-app Dell chat support can be a time saver.
What’s missing? Nothing. For those interested in a CD/DVD burner found on older models, these are an inexpensive plug-and-play external device. There are certainly plenty of ports available.
There is a single USB-C port at the right side bottom edge, perfect for charging a phone or plugging in a peripheral without having to access ports on the rear.
**CONCLUSION**
The 27-inch size is the new sweet spot and seems perfect in this application. No, it’s not a 4K display, but HD 1080P looks just fine. Performance is nothing short of excellent in every sense of the word.
Now it is time to ask the value question. In consideration of cost, performance and likely customer satisfaction, does THIS Dell AIO represent value to the consumer? That answer is a simple, resounding YES. This impressive combination of all the elements, with the bonus of powerful NVIDIA graphics is highly recommended. The designers and marketing team have worked together to offer a fine AIO for consumers as well as small office, home office users.
**WARRANTY**
Dell provides its standard one-year parts and labor warranty that is upgradeable at added cost and for a longer term after the initial purchase.

Until there is a new “top dog” in the robot vacuum space, this Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is IT, the one to beat. I am a longtime fan and follower of Roborock products, with over a year of hands-on and in depth experience with other Roborock products leading to the S7MaxV Ultra. It hasn’t taken long to see that their engineers have learned from other makers’ efforts and innovated to create what others only can hope to achieve.
What won’t it or can’t it do? It cannot go up or down a step, such as to a room that is one step up or down. It cannot vacuum baseboards or anything else that is above the floor level. It cannot nor should it be sent out to clean anything except bare floors or rugs/carpets that have any pile other than the lowest of the low. That’s not what this or any robot vacuum is designed to do. Its round shape makes it impossible to clean into corners. Finally, it cannot move furniture out of the way. That’s a pretty short can’t do list!
What it CAN do is unlike any other of which I am aware or that I have experienced.
**WHAT’S IN THE BOX**

**THE SETUP**
Follow assembly directions. Download and install the Roborock smart phone app for iOS or Android. Create an account.
Assemble the dock. Fill the clean water bin with water. I recommend distilled water to prevent mineralized water from leaving deposits. Place the S7MaxV Ultra on its charging perch to charge the battery before its first cleaning mission.
The app is extensive, with numerous twists and turns. Find 2D, 3D and Matrix mapping information and decide what is best for you.
One particularly useful setting in Object Avoidance. Here, the S7MaxV can be set to not get too close to an upcoming object or a wall, OR it can be set to use a gentle touch to determine that it has gone far enough. The latter is my preference. I want “her” to clean as much of the surface as possible so there is less follow-up cleaning to do.
Time and space constraints prevent a comprehensive write-up here. Buyers are urged to dive deep into the app and all settings to become educated and expert with the software. This is not a simple set and forget product. Those who fail heed this advice are, I am afraid, destined to be less than satisfied with this product.
On the other hand, expert users who are also tech geeks will come to appreciate the S7MaxV Ultra like nothing imaginable.
And now it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
ONLY because of my previous extensive Roborock product experience can I send her out on her appointed cleaning rounds. Expectations are reasonable.
Everything that can be removed is moved from the floor, providing the most obstacle-free cleaning path possible.
With all of this in mind, the S7MaxV Ultra did not disappoint for a moment.
I set this Roborock to make three washing passes along with vacuuming. The VibraRise mop automatically raises when carpeting or a rug is encountered. NOTE - this and all robot vacuums should only be used on bare floors or on very low pile rugs and carpets.
When she sensed the need, she docks mid cycle to wash the mop, dirty water into its tank, then filling the on-board tank with clean water. Then, out to resume cleaning where she left off.
On my wish list is the ability to sense a full dust bin is full and auto-empty mid-cycle. An over-full dust bin can and will cause a clog in the emptying path. Trial and error! I hope my request for a fix will come in a future firmware update.
Be mindful of the dust bin’s emptying path through the dock and its frequency. Only after the complete cleaning cycle has concluded and on the final docking will she empty the dust bin. Lift the lid, remove the dust bin and inspect for fullness before docking, but after cleaning. Users will learn of preemptive bin and filter care and prevent the learning curve that I went through, a clogged dust bin and clogged path to the bag in the dock. Feel free to manually empty the bin at any point during cleaning routines.
I disagree that this is hands-free for up to seven weeks. The dirty water will become rather ripe. Users are advised to get to know their own inspection and dirty water tank cleaning cycle needs. Mine was, shall we say, a bit nasty. It is easy to empty and wash out, and easy to add clean water as needed.
In addition, after each automatic cleaning cycle, inspect the underside of the robot and remove debris that can and will clog and impede the side brush motion. Remove the main brush to clear debris that will accumulate underneath it. Self-cleaning is not perfect cleaning, so users are urged to know the extent to which interventional cleaning will be needed.
Full or partial cleaning cycles may be set. The user is in charge. Similarly, this Roborock can be sent out for to clean just room, a defined area or full cleaning, or, using the app’s remote control, spot cleaning can be accomplished.
Have fun with the camera! Say hi to the family, visiting friends and the critters, from ANYWHERE in the world.
**CONCLUSION**
WOW! What a robot! What haven’t the Roborock engineers thought of? Very little, to be sure. This is as close to perfection as this reviewer has experienced. Therefore, while it is not perfect, it is perfection-adjacent and highly recommended SO LONG AS IT MEETS the user’s needs and so long as realistic expectations are understood.

I’ve had my eye on this one since its announcement several months ago. Already a fan of BlueParrott products, including their previous, similarly configured headsets, this one is special for a few reasons.
First, the basics from the manufacturer:

Targeting road warriors including over-the-road truckers, this headset is said to offer outstanding ANC that rejects 96% of background noise. Imagine that! Just what a road warrior needs. With the ability to use just one of the speakers for monaural sound mode, this permits the other ear to be open. Then, out of the rig or in the sleeping area, or at home or in an office, connect the other speaker for closed-ear stereo-capable performance and isolation. Calls made in this mode cover both ears. With ANC on, the technology should reject virtually all background sound for the best voice calls possible.
I have used previous BlueParrott models, which I have loved, so this new one with the convertible configuration offers added flexibility and versatility. The BlueParrott S650-XT performs the tasks that used to require two separate headsets.
With its super-long battery life of up to 36 hours on a charge, users will not have to worry about running out of power on the busiest, longest work days when the headset is hardly off.
Both ear speakers installed also means stereo music can be played. Another plus!
The “pleather” ear cups are soft and supple and appear to be of good quality.
More? Yes! The customizable BlueParrott button is ideal for the technically inclined who wish to take advantage of its capabilities. Choosing to use the button for call Mute or Speed Dial could prove really useful. The Push-to-Talk feature can be useful in some business situations on compatible systems, but it is not the norm.
It pairs easily with your mobile phone by Bluetooth or NFT on some Android phones. While pairing with computers is possible, the manufacturer does not guarantee performance or provide support for connectivity issues.

**THE SETUP**
Follow the directions! Pair with smartphone. Update Firmware as needed (it was). I had no issues simultaneously pairing with my computer and smartphone. However, playing streaming audio will occur with only the first device that makes the electronic call for audio.
Pairing with two mobile phones offers the option to make and take calls on either device.
More versatility comes from the option to use the included 3.5mm audio cable instead of Bluetooth connectivity to one device.
A tap of the BlueParrott button, then asking, “What can I say?” prompts the headset to speak its script of useful voice commands. These include my favorite when a call comes in. The prompt is, “Call from xxx”, and then “Answer or ignore?” I love this layer of hands-free convenience.
And now, it’s time to …
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
What a pleasure! I set up the BlueParrott button as a Mute button. NO one heard the rush of the car’s air conditioning blower. No one commented on the music playing on the radio.
With both earcups/speakers and HearThrough activated, I was able to be safe and to hear ambient sound, though I recommend using only one speaker while driving.
Back at Gadget Central base, the TV was on at normal volume. When I spoke, I made sure to speak at a conversational volume. Only the slightest background noise from the TV was heard and only when I asked the other party. This was their observation and not a complaint.
On went the other speaker. Now, it’s stereo music time. No, it is not audiophile sound, but it is more than acceptable for pleasurable listening to Apple Music on my iPhone.
The S650-XT is said to be comfortable enough for all-day wear. Time will verify that this is so.
Battery life is exemplary.
Though I do not expect to need it, the IP54-rated protection against against dust and water is a nice touch.
The track skip forward or back feature button is to be expected, but there is no way to pause a track from the headset. That must be done from the source, a normal situation.
When a product just works, it is a pleasure to have and to use. BlueParrott S650-XT just works!
Adjusting the headband for a most comfortable fit was easy. Simply bend the headband outward for less tension!
One- and two-eared use has validated the value of both configurations in my hands-on.
Calls are clear to both sides.
ANC is effective. No one suspected a noisy background on any call, despite the sound of a loud TV nearby, live traffic sounds, or the cacophony of loud conversations within easy earshot. Using both earcups on the road is safely possible by pressing the ANC button to cycle to HearThrough that brings in ambient sound and mixed it to the wearer for awareness of sounds that could be important for safety’s sake.
Even when wearing the headset all day, with either one or both speakers, it has been comfortable. I never felt there was too much pressure against my head nor did the headset easily fall off when I knelt forward.
The controls worked perfectly.
Not tested was the Push-to-Talk walkie-talkie functionality.
I wonder how suitable this headset would be for air travel. Would the ANC block out the cabin noise well enough for this use?
**CONCLUSION**
BlueParrott S650-XT is a welcome addition to the BlueParrott lineup. The detachable speaker’s versatility is the major selling point over the model without it, B650-XT.
Calls are clear to both sides.
The aesthetics of such a bulky headset have to be measured against the value and usefulness to the user. THIS user gives it a big THUMBS UP. After all, what’s not to like?

Mini only in stature when compared to so-called full size desktop computer, this “little” dell packs a surprising power punch in its class.
If you’re accustomed to consumer Windows desktop computers as I am, you have witnessed an evolution. Compact components promised lighter weight. Intel processors have become more powerful, of course, with included Intel UHD Graphics (for non-gamers). This Dell has the latest Intel i5-2400 And they still include CD/DVD drives, an SD card slot, USB ports with faster transfer taking advantage of the latest technology, and more. Inside the easy-open cabinet it is almost empty, with accessible RAM that is simple to replace up to the maximum of 32GB (not needed) from the included 12GB of RAM.
This model comes with a 256GB SSD. No more spinning hard disk drives. SSDs are usually faster and longer lasting than the old HDDs and use much less power. In addition, accessing data on an SSD is faster than on a standard spinning hard drive. Some might see the 256GB SSD as a limitation on this model that does not include the build-to-order option. Most consumers today who do email and other tasks that are not processor-intensive probably have Gmail or a similar mail service. In these, the email is stored in the cloud, not on the computer’s drive, so the 256GB storage should not be limiting.
If considering an upgrade to this Dell, look at your current rig’s storage to see its size and how much storage remains. I’d bet that most of you with a 1TB drive in your old current computer haven’t used much of it unless you have tons and tons of photos and music ON that drive. Both can be managed through other means, such as cloud storage OR by moving some or all onto another drive inside the new computer or on a USB thumb drive plugged into a convenient port on the front or rear.
All that room inside can be useful. There are at least three connectors into which a flyweight little SSD can be plugged. Checking online at Best Buy, I see them from about $50 to $100 for up to 1TB of storage. It is incredibly simple to pop one in, and their light weight lets them just dangle inside without a tray or other means of support. That’s what I did. I took the 1TB SSD from the almost eight year old big ol’ tower computer and put it inside this new Dell. Plug and play and all the old data is there.
This new Dell comes with a trial version of Microsoft Office 365 that users can sign up for OR remove and use an existing Microsoft Office product, which is what I did. Also included is McAfee antivirus, but, frankly, all that is needed for most consumers is the included Microsoft Defender antimalware product, so that was deleted on mine. Just don’t be foolish – don’t open email from unknown senders. Don’t surf the Web to shady places. In other words, be a smart consumer and a smart computer user.
Another change I made on this computer which is standard to ME was to upgrade from the included Microsoft Windows 11 Home Edition to Windows Pro. Look it up! I think Pro is the way to go and it is not expensive. In fact, I transferred my license from Windows 10 pro on my old computer to Windows 11 pro without charge. That’s the way Microsoft operates. Thank you.
With a standard, ubiquitous Windows wired keyboard and wired mouse, just add a monitor and monitor cable, computer speakers and it’s show time.

Unbox, plug in to power, connect a monitor, which, in this case, is a 1080 HD 24-inch Dell. Nothing fancy. Go through the setup process, connect existing Microsoft account. Do ALL the updates until there are no more. Keep checking until there is nothing more to do. This includes using the Dell software to check this computer in addition to Windows. That’s where there were a few to do, including a pair of BIOS updates. All finished!
Uninstall software as above. Install a few personal apps.
Will the included 12GB of RAM prove sufficient? Let’s see. It’s time to . . .

As an everyday computer for most consumers, there is NOTHING about which to complain.
Compared with the Dell computer replaced by this Dell, it is perfect. The old Dell had a [then] speediest Intel i7 processor and 16GB RAM. Though it is not eligible to upgrade to Windows 11, it chugs along just fine, but it takes over a minute to boot up fully. Even with its 1TB SSD as a main drive, the old computer was way past its prime. This new Dell with less RAM almost instantly boots up and runs with no perceived delays.
I think it’s a bargain!
**CONCLUSION**
Dell must be doing something right. The cost is astoundingly low for what is included.
This Dell Inspiron Compact Desktop model 3910 with the latest Intel i5 processor is highly recommended.

Canon MAXIFY GX6021 wireless AIO (All In One) Inkjet Printer is full of pleasant surprises both homes and small offices. This is Canon’s newest entry in the MegaTank category that is also popular with other major inkjet printer makers.
Its heritage and pedigree, and now its specs and performance aim to reclaim Canon’s glorious recent past in the highly competitive inkjet printer space. Canon engineers and product designers have been working overtime!
From the product box and the manner in which the printer is packed in a sturdy, reusable bag with handles for easy lift-out to the smart product features at every turn, this multifunction printer is something to behold.

MAXIFY printers are designed with a replaceable Maintenance Cartridge as well as replaceable Print Heads. The former is of particular note and interest. All inkjet printers occasionally, automatically perform a maintenance procedure whereby some ink is expressed through the heads in order to keep them from becoming dry or clogged, which can lead to inaccurate printing. Perhaps you have heard the sound of this as it occurs on other inkjet printers. They all do it. That ink has to go somewhere! Other printer makers of which I am aware spritz the ink onto a pad, often called a “diaper” in an area below the print heads. The pad can become super saturated and can even leak, making a mess of the mechanism that is nearly impossible to clean.
Canon engineers designed their maintenance cycle to move the print heads to one side and over the Maintenance Cartridge. All the ink is held in the replaceable cartridge so there will be no mess. Cartridge replacement is at a very low cost and is easily removed, and the user is alerted when replacement is needed.

Load the ink. Load some paper. Download and install the app. Set up Wi-Fi. Print a test page with automatic printhead adjustment. And now, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
I always begin evaluating print quality with plain inkjet paper and plain copy paper. They are not the same! In most instances, including here, print quality is better with the slightly heavier inkjet paper. The brand is not so important.
Print a document, a plain old black & white document created in the word processor of choice. Print in draft mode and then in increasingly higher quality settings to see the differences.
THIS IS NOT A SPEEDY PRINTER. As with ALL inkjet printers at this end of the business, print speed is a factor of the power of the host computer that makes the source material ready to print. Other factors include the selected print quality, the speed of the wireless network, if printing is wireless, and the complexity of that which is to be printed. In my experience, speed is relative and the print speed of THIS printer is “normal.” Do not buy an inkjet printer if fast printing at high quality is a requirement. Disappointment is assured! There are better ways to achieve fast, high-quality color document printing, but it is costly.
I did not test with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Print a colorful page, perhaps from a briefing slide or familiar website that has some color on it. Be sure the computer monitor has been calibrated for accuracy. Check.
If photo paper is available, print a familiar photo, or two or three. Printing 8x10 photos at high quality is very slow, but the results are worth the wait for occasional use. I would not recommend photo printing on a regular basis. It takes too long and uses a lot of ink. **PRO TIP** A better solution is to upload images, whether scanned or from a camera, to an account at a big box store or national brand pharmacy offering photo printing services. There, photos can be printed using the same process as if printing from film, in all the popular sizes, in a variety of photo finishes, for much less than the cost of printing on ANY inkjet printer. Most stores can ship photos to you if the location is inconvenient for pickup. I printed 4x6 and 8x10 photos at 600 dpi from high quality digital camera photos. Looks good!

Duplex and simplex scanning from the ADF and single document scanning from the platen. Check.
Though many parts are plastic, the fit and finish are excellent and the printer has the feel of high quality. Not a lightweight at about 26 pounds, it feels solid and substantial. I like that it doesn’t walk about while printing as lightweight printers may tend to do.
This Canon MAXIFY GX6021 passes my VALUE test with flying colors answering the question as to whether it is worth the cost. Supplies are not exorbitantly priced and generic, so-called “compatible” ink is available priced even more reasonably.
**CONCLUSION**
No complaints. Only praise. Highly recommended.
Perfect? Hardly, but . . . for what it does and in consideration of the VALUE equation test, choosing this Canon AIO is sure to please.

Legendary Polk Audio’s MagniFI Mini AX Atmos Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer is anything but mini in the bold, powerful and voluminous sound produced from its diminutive 15” soundbar containing five speakers. Yes, it’s not much more than one foot in width and only about three inches in height.
Product highlights from Polk include –
In addition to Dolby Atmos, get DTS:X 3D listening. Polk uses its patented SDA technology that is said to eliminate what they call “intra-aural crosstalk” that “smears” the sound between speakers in other sound bars. Polk explains that what the user hears in music, gaming and movies is a much wider, more accurate soundstage that is comparable to soundbars three times its size. We shall see!
Multiple connections make the MagniFI Mini a music streaming hub. Mobile sources use Wi-Fi to send audio using Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect and any Works With Alexa compatible music services. In addition, stream music via Bluetooth or directly from a connected Smart TV’s music apps.
Patented VoiceAdjust technology allows users to raise the volume of only voices to hear every word. BassAdjust allows the blending of low frequencies between the soundbar and subwoofer for maximum effect. Presets for Movie, Music and 3D modes is said to automatically optimize the sound to match the content. NightMode automatically turns down the bass and turns up the dialogue for late night watching.
The supplied remote is connected right out of the box. It can pair with most TV remotes and is Roku-Ready for even easier integration and control.

**THE SETUP**
Following the steps in the Quick Start Guide, bing, bang, bond, it was up and running. Wi-Fi was connected as was Bluetooth. The soundbar discovered and applied a needed firmware update over-the-air. The remote was clearly marked and intuitively laid out for ease of use.
The Polk is connected to a new 65” TCL Google TV by eARC. That’s the only wire from the soundbar to the TV. Firing up the TV with the soundbar on, it knew something was connected to that input. The internal TV speakers were turned off. Sound was sent to the soundbar.
Knuckles cracked, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
Doing nothing more than turning on both the TV and the Polk soundbar, I hit the road, so to speak, launching streaming apps to find content that showed 5.1 audio and Dolby Atmos. There is plenty from which to choose.
The first impression that struck me was the huge sound delivered by that little soundbar and powerful subwoofer. I was not prepared and was almost in disbelief that it could be cranked up to be much too loud, yet still produce sound that was never overmodulated. This was most impressive.
Using the buttons on the remote, I adjusted both the Voice and Bass to my liking. Bass at Max setting as shown in the display behind the fabric covering of the soundbar, I could sense the powerful bass from the sub. Similarly setting Voice to Max, there was no vocal track on any video tested that became too much to bear.
The effect was found to be subtle on sources displaying Atmos. The remote was used to set sound to 3D on those sources, then to Movie to discern the differences. My two compatriots felt less effect than I, so clearly the effect is going to be individual according to each listener.
After watching and listening to several movies, it was time to stream audio from my iPhone.
As per usual, I have favorites that exude deep bass, crisp vocals and allow visceral comparison with other components tested as best I can recall. Fortunately, Apple Music offers enhanced technology on many of their artists’ works. The Eagles Hell Freezes Over album’s Hotel California, Take It Easy, Get Over It and Desperado have all I need to put systems to the audio test. This was done with the setting to Music.
Once again, the soundbar impressed with its capabilities for depth and clarity, as well as room-filling sound that, with the room’s door open, easily filled the house.
Clearly, this soundbar is at its best in rooms where more and larger components are either not desirable or even prohibitive. Atmos 3D virtualization is not a substitute for the real thing, for actual rear speakers with a soundbar and sub.
Now, let me address the value equation of THIS product. The soundbar market has exploded in recent times and prices are quite reasonable for powerful, excellent performers with the same capabilities as this product.
Make no mistake, THIS soundbar is no slouch, and its voice clarity settings work well, but so do other makes and models that have adopted vocal clarity technology. This technology is so necessary today for a variety of reasons. Movie makers have made it harder to pull out the main voices of productions due to the way the movies are recorded and the dialogue delivered.
Have you ever been in gathering where everyone is talking at once and you find it difficult to understand what is being said TO you? When movie makers do this, it is intentional and deliberate, all in an attempt at realism. The audience be damned!
Any soundbar that lacks a dedicated center channel and technology to pull and deliver the focused player’s sound is going to be at a loss.
Fortunately, there are complete systems, with center, R & L fronts, R & L rears and wireless sub, that do a credible job for about the same price. OR, a larger soundbar with dedicated center, widely spaced R & L fronts, and a wireless sub, also priced similarly or for less, this may provide better separation. That’s the buyer’s conundrum.
**CONCLUSION**
A qualified recommendation is due here. For small rooms, for settings in which the boss of the environment does not want more parts and pieces, this may be a pleasing choice. For rooms in which THIS product meets the need, even the requirement for simplicity and lots of crisp sound from a very small multi-speaker soundbar and sub, I know of nothing better in its class.

This is the Plantronics Voyager 4310 UC Bluetooth Headset by Poly. Plantronics was bought by Poly, a leader in office conference phones. Plantronics has been a leader in Bluetooth headsets for many years. One of their over-the-ear models set the standard in design and performance in that category. So beloved is their iconic design of that product that it has been copied by the worst in the industry, delivering inferior products. Now, that’s a great design!
Voyager 4310 is a new product with a number of positive attributes. The single-ear over-the-head with boom mic is not new or unique. What is does and how it performs are exemplary. Let’s get into the particulars.
The headset’s padded headband is adjustable for all day comfort. With one ear covered, ambient sounds are not blocked to the user. With one speaker, it is designed for productivity on the road, in a home, home office or for use in a traditional office setting.
The boom mic can be flipped for use on either ear. A mute button is on the boom.
Plantronics has an iOS and Android app, PLT Hub, that is a must for greatest satisfaction. Within the app users will find firmware updates, general settings, tutorials, and a duplication of the little packed-in card that details, “Buttons & Lights” use. This is very handy. In addition, the app provides current available Talk Time and serial number of the connected headset. Finally, should the headset become buried or if it goes AWOL, a tap on the Find MyHeadset sends loud tones through the speaker. If found, a tap on the ”Found” button ceases the tones.
General settings include 16 language choices, toggles for Call Announcement, Audio Channel Tone, Notification Tones, Online Indicator, Ringtone, HD Voice (for wideband audio that is said to enhance speech clarity IF the user’s phone and services carrier supports the feature). HD Voice “consumes significant battery power, resulting in reduced talk time.”
Additional settings include a Mute Reminder, either Off, When I Speak (and audible reminder) or at selected timed intervals. Deeper into Mute, there are choices of Mute Alerts to be Voice, Double Tone or Single Tone.
An incoming second call notification can be set to ring once, ring continuously or ignore.
When the volume setting is at minimum or maximum, there are choices of how the user is alerted, with either a tone or voice. Deeper into this, these tones can be selected to be heard at every level or only at minimum or maximum volume.
It can be disconcerting to hear no sidetone on a call. This is the amount of the user’s voice fed back into the headset. Set for low, medium or high.
There is an available Anti-Startle (G616) Noise Exposure setting. This industry standard protects against acoustic shock from a sudden high volume. Within this category are choices to limit daily exposure to either 80 db or 85 db. These settings are specified by and reflective of current legislation. Finally, in this area, are selections for daily device use of 8 hrs, 6 hrs, 4 hrs or 2 hrs. Very thoughtful!.
Within the Settings area, the final selection is Reset Device.
Employing what the manufacturer calls, “dual-mid Acoustic Fence technology,” the headset virtually eliminates background noise.
Connectivity is easy. Shipping with a BT700 USB-A adapter, the headset connects with a nearby computer. Get up and stretch, move about and wander up to 164 feet away under ideal conditions.
Fully charged, wireless use is pegged at up to 24 hours of talk time. As a wired headset connected to a computer with the included cable, there is unlimited talk time and the headset charges at the same time.

The best way to test any headset is to use it. First up, I made a call to one of my friends who is accustomed to rendering an opinion of the call quality. A big thumbs on this one. He said it sounded perfect, with absolutely no artifacts and nothing in the negative column. In other words, he said his attention was NOT drawn to the fact that I was on a headset.
While on the call, I started at full volume a little video of big city background noise that includes cars and truck and sirens. He said the background sounds were barely perceptible. That was quite impressive.
Practice, practice, practice adjusting from the headset such things as volume, accurately pressing the dump call button, summoning the virtual assistant (Siri), accurately finding and using the Mute button on the mic boom, and more.
After three days of exclusively using this headset at my desk, I can say with conviction that it is easily all-day comfy. Siri likes it and responds accordingly.
What’s missing? Pricier headset provide auto muting when the boom mic is raised. Pricier headsets come with to speakers and ANC (Automatic Noise Cancellation). Pricier headsets come with a metal charging stand and one is optionally available for this one.
Plantronics Voyager 4310 UC Bluetooth Headset is feature rich and is a genuine value in its class. I know of no other in its class that does a better job and includes as many essentials as does this headset.

Just about perfect! Great job, Poly. Plantronics Voyager 4310 UC Bluetooth Headset is highly recommended.

Everyone’s getting into the so-called “true wireless” earbud space, and now, it’s Adidas’ turn at the trough.
Claims to fame on these include switchable ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), charging case with USB-C connectivity and wireless charging through the case, 4.5 hours with ANC on and 5 hours without ANC, situational awareness with Awareness Mode, easy pairing with ONE device at a time, iOS and Android app for full potential, EQ settings (fixed), touch-sensitive operation, and more.

**THE SETUP**
Open the box, unwrap, download iOS and/or Android app, follow pairing instructions. Set up app for use and become familiar with settings, become familiar with touch controls on the buds. And now, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
The three sizes sets of silicone ear tips should offer all-day comfort for most users. This tester found that the smaller tips worked best and created a snug, comfortable fit for all day wear.
Unlike some other premium buds, these do not offer a test through the app for gauging how well they fit without sound bleed. Too bad. That would have been nice.
Plenty of volume. Phone call sound was acceptable, not exemplary. Used the app to set different EQ levels. This is where it was discovered that all options are fixed according to the area of interest selected. These include ADIDAS with flat response, ROCK, POP, HIP HOP, ELECTRONIC, and VOCAL BOOST.
It was disappointing that the maker has decided what the user would want. It is hoped that future app and firmware updates will correct this omission.
This is not to suggest that running through the settings with various content choices and on phone calls produced unsatisfactory results. However, why not allow the user to make these choices?
It was discovered that the Adidas buds can be used with only ONE device at a time. For example, one may wish to simultaneously connect with a mobile phone and computer or tablet. Why not? This is a feature common to comparable buds in the price class, so it is disappointing to learn that Adidas has not enabled this feature on their premium buds.
Calls were completed with the sound assessed by outsiders as not the best they’ve heard from other premium earbuds used by this tester. ANC was assessed by this reviewer as about 70% effective. This is to say that the onboard ANC circuitry seemed about 70% effective at blocking annoying background noise. For this test traffic sounds were played at maximum volume through computer monitor speakers with no other noise interference introduced.
Use-per-charge was another area of at least mild disappointment for a true wireless earbud set in this class. Others easily achieve 6 hours on a charge. These offer up to a total of 20 hours of playtime when combined with charging in the case.
These allow use with a single bud to extend use per charge, though without stereo and effective ANC. For phone calls that lack background interference or for podcast listening, this setup will work well.
With their IPX5 sweatproof and water resistant rating, these buds are ideal for exercising and outdoor use in mild rain.
**CONCLUSION**
Let’s talk about value. After all, isn’t that the most important takeaway from any purchase? Does the consumer feel a sense of having received one’s money’s worth? Not so much.
Despite the many positive attributes of these Adidas earbuds, they are not recommended solely because there are others in this class that do better all around. If and when the manufacturer updates firmware and software to correct the deficits listed above, they might be a better buy.

This is the latest follow on to the original and well-received B&W Zeppelin introduced for use with iPods in 2006. In the words of the old TV commercial, “You’ve come a long way, baby.”
The new Zeppelin’s shape may be the same, but current technology is built inside to provide 240 watts (according to the B&W Website’s specs) of clean, clear, room-filling stereo in the excellent tradition of all B&W speakers. Measuring about 8.25” high x 25.5” wide x 7.5” deep and tipping the scale at 16 pounds, it will be a comfy fit on a wall with the optional wall mount or on the deck of a credenza, dresser or anywhere there is the space for its package.
The new Zeppelin is easily and quickly paired with iOS and Android mobiles and with the added connectivity commands from built-in Alexa, Zeppelin is and always has been a visual and audio work of art. In all ways simple to operate, she is smile-producing to all listeners who can appreciate the solid sound from such an unusually shaped package. The latest iteration of the Bowers & Wilkins app melds basic settings with connected content from Bluetooth-connected mobile devices and a growing list of content providers (more on this later).
Whether perched for service in a bedroom, office, kitchen, separate workspace or anywhere there is power (yes, she needs to be plugged in), the newest Zeppelin is sure to please as a premium audio product for the discerning customer.

**THE SETUP**
Open the box, read the paperwork, download the mobile app, plug her in, launch the app, update firmware if applicable (mine was), Bluetooth-connect with mobile devices, one at a time.
On the back panel towards the top are the power button, volume buttons, play/pause, and Bluetooth setup. Alexa was set up easily through the iOS app and she responded when summoned. The Alexa function was easily defeated with the press of the Alexa button for five seconds, turning off the mic.
Lower and hidden in the recessed back panel are the reset button, power cord plug and USB-C service port.
Connected and powered on, then linked with optional, paid services including Deezer, TuneIn, Last.fm, Tidal, Qobuz, with more to come, it’s fired up, ready to go and time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
Because I am so familiar with some of the tracks on the Eagles Hell Freezes Over live album, that was my first stop, sent by the Music app on an iPhone. It’s my go-to for many speaker tests. Listening to Hotel California, Take It Easy and Desperado, I noted the bass response and clarity of vocals along with stereo separation while conjuring comparative memories of these tracks as heard through other audio systems with other speakers. So far, so good.
Next, some classical tracks from Apple Music’s lossless selections, including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Dvořák's Eighth Symphony, and a little Yo-Yo Ma thrown in just because I love his work.
We sampled a few tracks from TuneIn, Last.fm and Deezer, all with premium sound characteristics. In our subjective judgment, this B&W delivered pleasing, balanced sound imaging without being heavy or light anywhere along the continuum of frequencies, all managed through the app. Not everyone will agree, and this is where the app settings will come in handy. Make the sound pleasing to the listener.
Zeppelin also features Apple AirPlay 2 connectivity, another convenience.
**CONCLUSION**
In this case, value is in the ear of the beholder. With so much to offer in what is a unique, classically designed package, powerfully delivered, Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin with wireless streaming and built-in Alexa is highly recommended. It will be sure to please for many years to come. Though we cannot assure that B&W’s promise to add more capabilities and services will be delivered, there is every indication that they will. Since its initial availability in recent months, sources have been added that total those listed above.
Important to note, NONE of the premium sources are required. Send music or over content already available in the user’s music library or even from YouTube or other free resources.
Time to go and enjoy listening to my Zeppelin.
