**THE SETUP**
This is where the fun begins! My fourth Chromebook, the large screen on this Acer makes using it so much better than with a smaller screen.
Like a comfortable pair of shoes, using a Chromebook is, well, so comfortable. Here’s why. Chromebooks use the Google Chrome operating system, with all its settings in the proverbial cloud. That is, ALL user settings are saved and immediately applied when signing on to the user’s Google account on a Chromebook.
Out of the box, powered on, this and every Chromebook asks for a Google username and password. And then, magic!
What if you don’t have a Gmail account? Either get one, start transitioning your other email, be it the old aol.com, yahoo.com, or any other “free” email providers, or rethink why you’re reading this and even considering a Chromebook purchase for yourself or for someone else.
Many students use Chromebooks in educational settings and at home with their school. The reasons are many and varied. Chief among the reasons is that Chromebooks offer and excellent price and performance advantage over other operating systems and their computers. Another is that Chromebooks are inherently free of malware. Another is that within the Googlesphere are Google apps that offer alternatives and compatibility with Microsoft productivity apps, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and others. Ditto for Macheads and the free similar apps that come with Macs.
Chromebooks require less power to operate so many can run all day long, like this one, up to 12.5 hours on a charge.
Chromebooks do not require a lot of onboard memory because they use the cloud to store and retrieve files. For example, this Chromebook has 64GB of storage with some of it used to store files necessary to run the Chromebook and the rest that can be used to add applications from the Google Play Store. But wait, there’s more!
There’s a touchscreen, the value of which I do not find of great use, but it’s there. There is also a respectable Webcam and tiny microphone for those online meetings with video and audio. Good enough.
With a USB-A port on the side, users can purchase and install more storage on a USB stick as I have. I popped in a 128GB flat fitting stick that is used to store any file allowed by the Chromebook, such as some downloaded movies from streaming services. Yes, I have added several streaming services. See the photo of my screen with these streaming services at the bottom.
As with my other Chromebooks, I plan to fly with this one. With its big screen and full HD 1080 capability, videos look mighty fine, though not perfect, on this screen. The value represented by this Chromebook cannot be overstated!
And back for student use, many primary and secondary schools specify Chromebooks for students. Budget-minded parents would do well by considering a Chromebook, THIS Chromebook, as an alternative to higher-priced Macs and Windows computers. Parents who want to prevent Malware from infecting their student’s computer would be wise to cost-compare.
ONLY Chromebooks come with a fresh version of the operating system (Chrome) EVERY time it is booted up. Genius, I tell you, genius!
Is it perfect? Nope. Performance is not as fast as pricier computers, but the tradeoff is, in my view, more than acceptable. I can multitask with the best of them, and I just accept the limitations.
Can you do EVERYTHING on a Chromebook? Again, nope. Users will not be editing video or running any processor-intensive creative apps here. For Web browsing, email, watching videos, catching up with all the latest goings on through social media, yes. There will be no meaningful benefit from a more powerful processor, which is why most Chromebooks do not use faster processors.
Chromebook manufacturers have been at this for over 10 years and have performance and value figured out. Don’t try and second guess them. It won’t work.
With the foregoing out of the way, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
There is not much to add from the Setup section above.
I am enthralled with Chromebooks or I would not continue to use, recommend and support the cause.
One more thing of interest to mention. Every Chromebook has an end-of-life pre-programmed in. This can be found on every one. The end-of-life is the year after which updates are no longer guaranteed, but it is usually about FIVE years. This does not mean that all of a sudden, the Chromebook becomes a doorstop. It just means that security updates probably will not continue. Do the math. For the value versus cost, the annual cost of doing business with most Chromebooks, including this fine Acer, is a pittance as compared with other computers.
I love mine and recommend it to you.
**CONCLUSION**
In conclusion, fear not the Chromebook, THIS Acer Chromebook. No I do not believe a speedier processor with more memory will provide sufficiently faster performance. Understand the limitations and embrace the positives.

Do you enjoy taking pictures with a digital camera or smartphone AND if would you like to revisit and manipulate existing digital photos? Then Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023 (Mac) is must-have software that is immediately downloadable upon purchase.
Use the software to help get the most out of creative inspiration by adding elements, correcting a variety of image flaws and overall improving on the original, while retaining the original photo.
PSE is the little sibling of the legendary, industry standard and industry leading Adobe Photoshop software. Though this is often described as Photoshop Lite, it is hardly that. Instead, its deep toolbox and friendly interface lower the intimidation factor to such a degree that users, myself included, can feel free to experiment creatively. An improvement over the 2022 version, and it is frequently sale priced. In other words, it represents value as well as performance, and who doesn’t like both of these?
First, PSE 2023 takes advantage of MacOS and hardware improvements, including support for Apple’s M1 chip. I can see the difference immediately on a new MacBook Pro. PSE is so quick!
For those who have PSE 2022, this might not be worth the upgrade, but think again. I think the new features and interface improvements make the upgrade advisable.
Even if hardware is not new, so long as it can use the latest MacOS, currently Ventura, then performance will be better than with older MacOS versions. Note that the more RAM, the merrier. No software works as well with minimal RAM as with more.
If you have PSE 2022, 2023 adds an improved interface to that excellent program that is also easier to use.
Now it is possible to add motion to photos with Adobe Sensei Ai. The visuals are stunning when creating motion where there is none, and you can even decide the direction of the motion.
Create collages and use slideshow templates.
There are new Web and mobile companion apps, again, adding value. Use the Guided Edits OR wing it, but please start with Guided Edits, which include 61, yes, up to 61 steps! Within those Guided Edits are all sorts of adjustments and effects from which to choose.
Go deep, that is, use the Guide to create the illusion of depth by layering in nature in the form of grass, leaves and flowers, and more.
And then, resize and replace backgrounds to create a work of art from what might have been ordinary in the original photo. You know how background elements can otherwise ruin a photo? With PSE 2023, use its power to remove those distracting elements, including power lines, other people, clouds, plants and so much more. This feature was the most fun. I looked back over many, many photos that were throw aways. And then, presto, with the annoying backgrounds or people excised, the photos took on a positive aspect and became keepers. Impressive. As with anything, practice makes perfect or, in this case, practice makes you want to do more, explore more and explore the possibilities.
Turn that frown upside down, fix closed eyes by opening them, correct skin tones or ever to slightly adjust a face’s position or tilt.
Add text and textures, blurs for artistic effect and, it cannot be overemphasized, SO MUCH MORE.
I am almost afraid to add to the above because readers might become intimidated. It is exactly the opposite, to restate what is above. Look at it two ways. On the one hand, the extensive guidance will assure success and add a level of confidence. On the other hand, feel free to free-form it and explore without the hand-holding. Either way, you can’t lose.
Adobe has committed to updates throughout the year, so there will be more, better features and enhancements. With access to the finished product on a Mac as well as on a mobile phone, sharing could not be sweeter.¬¬
I appreciate all the personalization built into the application.
Upon opening, users are jump-started with a small screen and a search window asking, “What would you like to do today?” At the bottom is a link to, “View All,” that opens to reveal more than 25 thought starters under the heading of Auto Creations. OR, instead, choose from approximately 74 suggestions.
The 74-ish suggestions are options that include things that are part of integration within Photoshop Premiere Elements, an app that seamlessly includes video editing,, Adobe’s lightweight version of the full-blown Premiere app. Those links and suggestions are, in my view, misplaced and can introduce confusion. Adobe offers a combination app that includes both PSE and PS Premiere Elements. For those interested in both, check out the combo packae, also available for digital download from Best Buy.
Over the past few days with this application, I have barely scratched the surface of the fun that is to come.
The bottom line is this – Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023 for Mac (and also for Windows) is more than could be expected for its bargain price and will keep users engaged, satisfied and coming back for more. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A premier sound product brand since its founding in 1964, Bose is highly regarded for their speakers, noise canceling travel headphones and earbuds and now, soundbars. I still listen to a set of Bose MediaMate computer speakers ca. 1994 and they still sound great.
This new Bose Smart Soundbar 600 falls in the sweet spot under their highly praised model 900 with its separate subwoofer and above the simpler, smaller model 300.
Smart Soundbar 600 features a pair of up-firing speakers under the top grill for the purpose of adding virtualized height, à la Atmos. Its built-in woofers ported to the rear add an element of bass without the separate subwoofer. All of it, the treble, bass, and all other adjustments, features and available content are found within the Bose Music app for both iOS and Android. The soundbar works in concert with a supplied little battery powered remote control.
Technology includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Chromecast compatibility. In addition, find Bose Voice4Video technology and Amazon Alexa built in so users can control the soundbar, cable box, tv or satellite box by voice.

The user’s phone and the soundbar must be on the same Wi-Fi network, as per usual. Before long, a firmware update will be completed, and then it is time to add optional audio sources, including TuneIn and SiriusXM.
The app is the user’s portal to EQ settings as well as whether the 600 will be mounted to the wall, in which case, the sound profile will be adjusted for bass as well as for reflectivity of the Atmos algorithm’s height virtualization.
TVs equipped with HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) are optimally connected to the 600 in this way, channeling all TV sound through the soundbar.
In my TV setup, however, the optical cable from the TV to the 600 was required because this older TV does not have HDMI ARC. This is how all sound from all TV sources will be available on and the volume controlled from the 600. This is good for users who have a setup like mine, with built-in TV streaming apps, cable or satellite service, an external streaming box, such as Roku as one example. ALL sound is shuttled to and through the 600.
Once the basic & simple set up is complete, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
The first thing that caught my attention was the crispness and clarity of sound. Would anything less be expected from Bose! Starting with streaming video from premium services, I sampled several movies and audio only sources over the next three hours to get a feel for the Smart Soundbar 600’s capabilities. Wherever possible, sources indicating Atmos were selected. Adjusting treble, bass, and height were easily comprehended.
Bass was good, not great, but subwoofer-like greatness was not expected from a soundbar’s internal speakers when compared to a soundbar with external subwoofer. This is where the Smart Soundbar 600 meets the needs for budget-conscious consumers as well as those who simply do not have a place for an external subwoofer.
Focusing solely on what it can do versus what it cannot do, the perspective allows for an appreciation of its relative diminutive size coupled with that crisp, clean sound described earlier.
Does it have a BIG presence with BIG and room-filling sound? Again, it’s all about perspective. I would not recommend this as the external source from a large and immersive screen beyond 60 inches in a large space, greater than about 12x12. For a large space, more is needed and will be appreciated.
For this space, my space, this soundbar is very nice.
Does it give a true surround sound experience. No, it does not and cannot because there are no rear speakers. The up-firing speaker pair does provide a compelling demonstration of height virtualization.
The more we listen, the more there is to like. The more we tweak adjustments in the app to suit the source, the better we like the performance.
What is it, the ultimate objective of a soundbar in a home theater setup? Why, it is to provide an immersive experience!
Adding accessory Bose wireless surround speakers and/or a Bose wireless subwoofer is possible. Be sure to look for these accessories if they are of interest. They will be required for a true 5.1 surround sound experience.
**CONCLUSION**
As with so many tech products, value is in the eyes and ears of the beholder. For the purpose for which it is intended, I give this Bose Smart Soundbar 600 thumbs up! There is nothing it is built to do that it does not do well. That is why it passes my value proposition test and why I recommend it.

This LG Cord Zero cordless stick vacuum with Kompressor technology comes with two batteries for extended run time and a clever dirt squisher.
Kompressor technology is a clever built-in feature that compresses the dirt in the dust bin so it does not need to be emptied as often. Moving a lever is all it takes to squish the bin contents.
Get up to 120 minutes of uninterrupted performance with a pair of included batteries. These batteries are said to be an upgraded lithium-ion design that can take repeated charges and discharges and come back for more.
A portable charging stand is provided that holds the CordZero in place and does not require holes to be drilled into a wall, though wall mounting is an option.
One-touch controls turn the vacuum on and off and adjust power levels up to Turbo mode with just a thumb. This should prove to be less strenuous on the hand.
Telescope the wand for greater flexibility and to more conveniently store the unit away while taking up less space.

**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
A strong, not too loud, motor whir tells me this stick means business.There is plenty of suction even on the lowest power setting. Once it hits a low-pile rug, the power level should be increased for effectiveness, which it to be expected.
The Kompressor lever is a novel gimmick and it works. As the bin fills, the contents tend to coalesce near the cyclonic ports. Using the Kompressor lever allows the dirt, dust and other debris to be compressed and directed to the bottom of the bin so it does not appear to require emptying so frequently. Who thought of this clever idea?
Battery performance has been as expected, with both batteries providing enough power to clean everywhere. I like the ease-of-use when vacuuming inside our cars.
Easy to empty, and the simple, washable filter is very effective. There are no consumables to deal with on a regular basis, though the filters will degrade over time. The batteries will eventually need to be replaced. Of equal importance is that the design does not create the need for unusual and unplanned deep cleaning of the CordZero itself.
The brush head is easy to dismantle for removal of anything wrapped around the brush. A quarter-turn of the red screw on the bottom releases the cover for brush head access.
There have been no clogs to remove.
The Wi-Fi-enabled ThinQ App’s monitoring shows a detailed cleaning history and other stats but is, in my mind, a feature that is not so important or relevant to this reviewer.
Everyone here is pretty impressed with this LG CordZero.
**CONCLUSION**
Easy to set up. Easy to use. Easy to like, even love. Very easy to recommend.

It is a solid little device with a flip-up plug and a total output of 65W. Two ports are USB-C, with the other being USB-A. The USB-C ports are ideal for rapid charging a pair of mobile phones, some of which can make quick use of up to 20W output for each phone. That brings us to 40W, leaving 25W available in the USB-A port, for example. A third phone or some tablets may be charged with 25W.
Another option is what I tried, charging my Chromebook with 45W from the USB-A port and one mobile phone with one of the USB-C port, with power to spare so charge my Beats Fit Pro earbuds. The beauty part is that users are free to mix and match using this remarkably compact charging brick.

Read the directions even though users may feel experienced and confident. This is a new model with newer technology. It is important to understand the distribution of power across all ports. This understanding will avoid disappointment from unrealistic expectations.
Plug it in, with products to charge and their power cords at the ready.

**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
It’s a powerful, relatively diminutive charger, and it works when used as directed. No, it cannot charge a laptop that requires beyond its 45W limit at the USB-A port. No, it cannot charge a pair of phones and a power-hungry computer. Doing a little bit of math will prevent customer dissatisfaction from unrealistic expectations.
There are three pros and no cons.
The three pros:
• Anker is a trusted and proven brand.
• This GaN (Gallium Nitride) charger features state-of-the-art smart charging technology to charge as fast as the device allows IF it is compatible with fast charge technology.
• It charges as fast as any charger I have used, perhaps even faster, in a smaller footprint and with three mix-and-match ports, it demonstrates wide versatility.

I have noticed that my iPhone battery drains pretty quickly while on long Zoom or FaceTime calls. Using conventional chargers not only could not keep up with the load so the phone did not lose charge, but the phone lost steam after marathon video calls. And that is with a 20W charger
With this new Anker charger, things are different. I connected to the port marked with the phone symbol. The phone was at 87%. My call lasted nearly an hour and a half. At the end of the call, my phone was at 100%. I’d say that is proof positive.
Using the other Type-C port, I connected my Chromebook AND the phone. Then, another long video call. I set the Chromebook to download videos and simultaneously stream from a major streaming source.
The Chromebook stayed at 100% charge. The connected iPhone fully charged from about 70% at the conclusion of my long video call.
Of course, no one could expect similar performance if the Anker was taxed beyond its capacity, The 735 can only do so much. Users requiring simultaneous charging of higher powered devices will find other choices here to meet that need.
**CONCLUSION**
Oh, wow! Works great.
Like my other Anker GaN chargers, it can get somewhat warm to the touch while charging devices, especially if it is working hard.
GaN chargers are the way to go, and Anker is a leading provider of chargers incorporating this technology.

WOW! To say that this is a do-it-all workhorse printer for small offices or home offices is an understatement, though not without some features that may not be ideal for some.
Like all HP printers, this is solidly built, and it’s speedy at up to 42 pages per minute (PPM). As a black & white laser printer, it users a toner cartridge instead of ink. The cost per page is inexpensive, but note the caveats to be revealed later in the review. High resolution of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch) assures crisp prints. In economode, think of this as draft mode, it uses less toner when perfection is not needed.
Print with Windows 7 and higher, MacOS from Catalina and higher, Android, iOS and even Chrome OS for Chromebooks.
Great results will come from printing on plain old 20# copy paper instead of higher cost inkjet paper.
This workhorse is rated for up to 80,000 pages per month, though at that volume, if needed, you might be better off with a higher volume printer. A more nominal monthly volume of 750 to 4,000 pages is typical for this printer.
Features include print, copy, scan and even fax.
Wireless connectivity means anyone on the network can print to THIS printer. It also means that the printer itself can be located for convenience, not in consideration of hard wiring to the router or to a computer. READ the setup guide! Download the recommended software for your needs at the HP URL provided. I use Macs and Windows PCs, both with the newest OS, and also iPhones, and Chromebooks. Plug it in. Use the excellent HP Smart software for all the devices. Use the guided, cloud-based setup. Follow the display’s prompts. This will take you through Wi-Fi setup and get everything ready for use.
And now, the not so apparent “gotchas.” THIS printer works only with genuine HP toner and re quires an HP account. No third-party toner is available yet, and it might be a year or more before so-called generic and compatible toner becomes available. Until that time, users are locked in to the HP subscription program and will be automatically sent a new toner cartridge before the one installed runs out. Based upon initial usage and adjusted for usage on a regular basis, the new genuine HP toner cartridge will arrive with a prepaid recycling return package. This program is expensive, in my view and in my experience. For business users, however, it’s a good bet that running out of toner is not going to happen, so it’s hard to fault the plan for its intended business users.
If and when the user cancels the program, the installed cartridge received under the HP Instant Ink program must be returned for credit. YOU don’t own it. It is only rented, so to speak.

**THE SETUP**
One of the easier routers to set up, load and launch the smartphone app. Re-boot the modem. Connect the AXE7800, then follow the prompts in the app through to completion. Use the network password provided on a sticker or change to whatever you wish The same goes for the network name. I set the router to get and apply updates as they become available from Netgear.
Some users may wish to do as I am accustomed to doing. That is, to log into the router through a web interface and to perform administration through that method. This router is designed for users who want to do everything through the mobile app, which seems to be a trend at this end of the business. Make everything easy for non-technical consumers and not so easy for those of us with technical know-how and experience. This is not a criticism, but, rather, an observation.
A five TB drive was connected to the USB-C 3.0 port for serving up our music and video library to any connected device.
Setup using an app is commonplace today and so convenient.

**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
How simple is this! Smooth sailing. We have only a few Wi-Fi 6, including Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phones and a Google Pixel 6a. There is no doubt that more devices are on the way by year’s end, and that’s exciting.
A word about speed. ALL speed claims of this or ANY router are theoretical maximums. What the user experiences is dependent upon more than one factor. First, what is the speed of the ISP? If yours is only 100 mbps, then you will not go any faster than that. If with your use there are no lags, then there is nothing to complain about. Second, what devices are in use and how many? The use of Wi-Fi 6E is dependent upon whether or not the user has any of these. If there are none, then this is a non-starter and will have to wait until the user has mobile phones, for example, in order to benefit from this technology.
And what about range? What YOU may experience is dependent upon such things as the construction of your house or apartment, if the router is centrally located and the signals are without obstacles other than walls. Ideally, any router should be placed in the clear and near the top of the wall.

No slowdowns were detected regardless of how many data-sucking devices were simultaneously sucking data. Gaming was smooth sailing. Our ISP provides 400 mbps down and 20 mbps upstream.
As to range, in this 1400 square foot residence, there is plenty of Wi-Fi signal to the extremities of the house, to the back edge of the property and to the street in front. I’d say this is a win.

More for what will be than what is, this Netgear Nighthawk router works flawlessly NOW. I noticed no glitches when using the Wi-Fi 6E phones and will expect outstanding performance as Wi-Fi 6E devices are added.

Who wouldn’t want, that is, NEED a top notch garbage disposal? Really, if given the choice, who would say, “NO”?
Some consumers have been groomed and misinformed on the subject, leading them to believe that garbage disposals are to be used sparingly, and that most food scraps and waste is never to be put in there. Well, friends, that is simply not correct.
A powerful garbage disposal with the best technology is a godsend. Having studied the garbage disposal market and technology for at least 15 years and with a wealth of experience, I can say first hand that THE answer is out there! The best known brand does not have the best products, in my opinion and in my experience.
What I learned was during a compelling demonstration. There are two competing motor technologies. One camp provides a motor that does not deliver instant, full-torque power as soon as the switch is turned on. The other one does! THIS motor is what is known as “permanent magnet” technology. Jamming a wooden broom handle into the blades will not prevent it from starting up. In the other example, that broom handle will easily prevent the motor from starting up.
Can you guess which motor technology is featured in this Smart Choice 1.25HP garbage disposal? Ding ding! You are correct!
Consumers will notice that the better known brands with the lesser technology cost more and are still prone to jamming for no other reason than inferior motor technology. They typically run at about 1800RPM or less. This one, the better one with better motor technology, spins at a nearly unstoppable 2800RPM.
Of course, any garbage disposal is the sum of its parts, and the motor is but one factor, though, in my view, if all other parts and pieces are top tier, the garbage disposal will have the best chance to do what it is supposed to do without stoppage due to jamming.
What are the other important parts in a high quality disposal? Balanced, vibration reducing, stainless steel grinding components, sound dampening insulation, three-bolt mounting that is a simple, often DIY installation.
Even on models with less than 1-1/4HP, the motor still spins at an amazing 2800 RPM, but why not get the best and move on with your life? This super strong motor powers through everything from coffee grounds, egg shells, non-fibrous produce, small bones and other food waste.
Look online for what so-called experts say should NOT go into a garbage disposal. This is where those incorrect answers will be found. The truth is that there are certain foods that are not garbage disposal appropriate. These include large pits, such as avocado pits and fibrous produce such as the “choke” from an artichoke. In addition, it is important to run the kitchen sink water at full volume BEFORE introducing the food waste, and then introduce the scraps little by little. When the waste has disappeared, run the water for another 30 seconds to help the ground up waste on its way to the sewer or septic system. And that’s it.

However, in my experience, this is not a tough job for the handy home owner. If this is a NEW installation there are other necessities. There must be a GFI outlet under the sink, for one. There is a side drain for connection to a dishwasher. If this is for new construction, consult the crew!

That extra 1/4HP over those with 1HP may or may not make a difference, but considering that there are basic units that are just 1/4HP, this is at the head of the class. Compare prices and warranties to the others brands.
You’ve seen that this Smart Choice 1.25HP garbage disposal costs less than the big brand with which you may be familiar. And that is why THIS product handily passes my “value equation” test. More for YOUR money. That was easy.
Treated well, with the respect it is due and it should be around and working well beyond its generous warranty period.

How is it that Air Fryer products and technology continue to advance the state of the art? Here is an excellent example of what’s new.
I have long been a fan of and recommended “bucket” or basket style air fryers. The other popular style, countertop air fryers, typically with glass fronts and an open cavity, easily become filthy. An upscale countertop oven, they are a more modern version of a toaster oven.
The self-contained “bucket” design that I prefer places the heating element at the top, above an enclosed bucket at the bottom of which is, typically, a crisping rack The rack also allow air flow all around the food. All liquids, splatters and debris are contained within the “bucket”. The bucket and rack are non-stick coated and easily cleaned by hand or in a dishwasher.
What’s new with this Ninja Foodi model? The major upgrade to this double-basket model is a feature not seen before. This DZ550 is a dual basket 10-qt design with something extra. The left bucket has a helper, a temperature probe on a wire. Use the probe to alert and automatically shut down the DZ550 when the probe’s set point is reached. How is this different from other models? It’s the “Foodi Smart Thermometer” probe!
An entire six-pound chicken with probe fits in the left basket and may be cooked on the roast setting. Another up to six-pound chicken may also be simultaneously cooked in the right side bucket, say, on the AirFry setting, then the unit may me be set so the food in both sides can finish at the same time. That’s genuine convenience any way you slice it.

READ everything, then re-read everything. There is much to learn and apply in order to experience a comfort level with repeatable successful outcomes.
A probe that connects to a port at the left front above the left bucket is the only obvious visual difference between this model and others with a similar look. Using the DZ550 in AirFryer mode, there is no easy way to determine the doneness of meat, fish or poultry. I use the tried and true method, which is to open the bucket and insert an instant-read thermometer in a few spots. With practice, I have become adept at estimating the correct cook time of my fan favorite whole chicken preparations. But now, the probe changes everything and takes the majority of guesswork from the equation.
For a six-pound chicken, as an example, I set the temperature to an internal doneness of 160º, not the recommended 165º, “with the probe inserted horizontally into the thickest part of the breast, parallel to, but not touching, the bone. Make sure the top reaches the center of the thickest part of the breast and doesn’t go all the way through the breast into the cavity.” I don’t like dried out, overcooked chicken breast.
Press the button and let it happen. At the same time, another food, perhaps AirFried wedge potatoes that everyone here loves, can be set so that both buckets are done at the same time.

Built-in intelligence rockets the DZ550 to a higher performance level with new options not available on previous air fryers. Ninja calls it the Smart Cook System.
Versatility is the name of the game. Use the DZ550 with or without the probe, with or without both “zones” (buckets), i.e., DualZone Technology, with or without Match Cook.
Functions include Air Fry, Bake, Roast, Air Broil, Reheat and Dehydrate. The provided Quick Start Guide includes instructions and many recipes.
After hand washing both baskets and crisper trays, I set them back in place, set the operation to Roast, the temperature to 400º, and set the timer for 12 minutes. This was to burn off any debris or oils coating.
And now, it’s time to . . .
**PUT IT TO THE TEST**
Always the first thing I make in an air fryer, I prepped an over six-pound chicken. Seasoned well and with the probe inserted as instructed, I cut a few russet potatoes into wedges and soaked them in ice water for 30 minutes. Rinsed, then pat-dried, I tossed them in a large prep bucket with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoky paprika and Lebanese Za’atar.
Next, set so the chicken and fries would be ready at about the same time, with the push of a button, the cooking began. Sure smelled great!
Practice, practice, practice, and more practice. Once again, family and friends are enjoying the ever-expanding repertoire of wonderful dishes made with my most recent AirFryer. I can see daylight ahead! Pretty soon, everyone here will enjoy this versatility of deliciousness.

**THE SETUP**
My new Pixel 6a is an unlocked Charcoal color with 128 GB of storage.
This unlocked phone is compatible with T-Mobile and Verizon, as well as the other major U.S carriers, including AT&T, Sprint. Also compatible with prepaid carriers including Cricket Wireless, MetroPCS, Google Fi, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, Tracfone, Net10, Mint, and H2O.
Coming from an iPhone, the switch was easier than anticipated. I turned off FindMy on the iPhone, removed its SIM card, inserted it into the Pixel 6a and powered it on. The Pixel 6a prompted me to insert the USB-C end of a charging cable into the 6a and the Lightning end of that cable into the iPhone from which I was transferring data. Power on the iPhone. Then the magic! It took a little more than an hour, but the direct transfer was successful.
What’s missing? The only exception of significance is that the Pixel 6a does not support wireless charging. I am committed to making this work. iPhones are much more expensive.
With the initial setup completed, it’s time to . . .

There were updates to do after setup, so, that was done first. Next, I had to choose which apps to use for messaging and for email. There is no default Android messaging app, so I researched choices and took my best shot.
I had read of users’ disdain for poor performance of fingerprint unlocking on Pixel 6. I am pleased to report that there are no such issues with the 6a running on the latest Android operating system. Also noteworthy and important to any Android phone purchaser – For how long will this phone receive operating system updates?
This is a brand new model. As such I read that Google has committed to sending out three OS updates including being among the first Android phones to be updated to Android 13. In addition, Google has indicated that Pixel 6a is to also benefit from five years of security updates. Older phones, whether free or for less than this mid-$400 Pixel 6a, cannot make that claim with certainty. Therefore, why take chances? It is just not worth the risk.
What is important to a smart phone user?
Messaging – successfully accomplished with a few dozen contacts. I like the haptic feedback from Pixel 6a.
Email – easy to set up new accounts or existing email addresses from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and others. Use the email app OR other options from any number of Android email client. It’s the user’s choice.
Zoom – using existing account or new.
Camera – low light performance is good, not excellent, but only when compared to more expensive mobile phones, so here is where compromises were made. Videos and still images are clear and sharp. In its price class, Pixel 6a takes good still images and high quality videos. No complaints here.
Screen resolution – only the most discerning, make that PICKY users would detect that the screen is not 120Hz. NO one I showed the Pixel 6a to commented negatively about the screen resolution or sharpness. In point of fact, friends were very happy with what they saw, especially after I told them the retail price of this phone.
Streaming – watching Prime Video and Netflix content was very satisfying.
Sound – Whether listening to streamed music, sound accompanying streaming video or podcasts, the stereo sound comes through loud and clear with just the right amount of sharpness and definition.
A few more features were tested that WOWED me include:
Wait Times – this built-in part of the Phone app helps users decide when is the best time to call businesses to avoid long wait times. This is brilliant!
Direct my Call – when calling a toll-free business number, Google Assistant transcribes the automated message and menu items in real-time and displays them on screen. A tap of the on-screen option buttons transcribed by Assistant instead of the dial pad to make a selection, then select menu options as desired. This sure beats listening intently or trying to remember options. Also brilliant!
Hold for Me – This is said to save time when calling a business. If you’re put on hold, Google can wait on the line for you, then notify you with sound, vibration and prompt when someone is ready to talk.
There are so many more refinements than these.
**CONCLUSION**
Wrapped in an attractive package, this unlocked Google Pixel 6a with 128GB has to be on consumers’ short lists of next Android phones that have great performance and features at an attractive price point. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This beautiful and powerful phone, like so many others, is slippery and easily dropped, I recommend purchasing a protective case and tempered glass screen protector. I did! I want the Pixel 6a to look and perform well for several years to come.

Do they work well with iPhone X and 12 and can you connect 2 devices at one time
YES and YES, just as I do, Cheeseburger (with my iPhone 12 Pro Max). Sweet, indeed. Great buds. Highly recommended.

NO other countertop oven is as easy to clean as a dedicated air fryer. This dual-basket model with twin 5-qt baskets along with the built-in intelligence that allows two foods of different types to be finished at the same time is a game changer.
