Hiya "electronically impaired", and thanks for considering Samsung.
We can keep this pretty simple so that Christmas morning will be one of ease and enjoyment, rather than frustration and experimentation.
The UN55FH6003 is one of the few televisions that has speakers, but no other audio output from the television. The good news is that you can work around this and still have an enjoyable situation by sending the audio directly from the source to the TV.
On the Audio Bar (HW-F450), you have three inputs.
1. One is an analog input
2. One is a digital optical
3. One is an HDMI In/Out
Connect the Blu-Ray player to your TV using an HDMI cable. This will send the picture from the Blu-Ray player to the TV. Using the digital optical cable, connect that from your BD-F5900's optical cable to your Audio Bar. This will send the audio from the Blu-Ray player to the Audio Bar. If you have the TV turned up, turn the volume all the way down. Otherwise, you may get an 'echo' effect.
So you'll need:
1 HDMI cable (length is up to you, but 6' will be good for most people) to connect the Blu-Ray player to the HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 port on the TV.
1 Digital optical cable to connect from the Blu-Ray player to the Audio Bar.
If you're going to an electronics parts store, you might also pick up a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable in case you want to connect a headset device (mp3 player, tablet, etc) to your audio bar's AUX-In, which will be an available input if you want to use it.
If you have a device with an RCA-out connector (like a cherished tape deck or audio device with RCA out), you might do a RCA to 3.5mm male, since that will be your AUX input.
So a few options there. But for sure, you'll want your HDMI and optical audio cable.
Attached below is the recommended connection (picture) from the Blu-Ray player to the Audio Bar.
