Hi, and thank you for your question. The Sonos Amp is an amplifier that delivers power to passive speakers, where Port is a non-amplified device that plugs into the amplifier (or receiver) to give it the ability to stream music via the Sonos app. So you had a pair of outdoor speakers and wanted to give them power from Sonos you'd use Amp. But, if those speakers were already plugged into a amplifier or receiver, you would plug Port into the receiver and it would give you the same result. In your case, you would want the Sonos Port. Your CD player can plug into that and then you can play that music wirelessly to your other Sonos speakers in your house. If the disc player has analog out, you could plug it into the back of Amp as well. And that will wire to your passive speakers (towers, bookshelf, ext) and play your CD.
