Is a remote needed?

Great question! Yes, but not a special remote. The Beam has built in IR, so you can use the remote your TV comes with. It also supports CEC control so many tv's will automatically teach the Beam the codes it needs. If you're not using HDMI for CEC control, it's very easy to teach the Beam any IR remote you'd like in our app under settings -> system -> room name of Beam -> Remote control set up. You can also use our app to change the volume as well.

What year was this model originally manufactured?

Can the Soundbar play audio wireless from the new Apple TV 4K (via WiFi)? The Apple TV is connected to a projector on the oposite side of the room, and don't want to run a wire for the audio.

Is a separate sub-woofer required?

Hi, and thank you for your question. A subwoofer is not required. Only personal preference if you'd like more bass!

What is the deal with version 1 versus version 2? If I buy this and update the app, will my old 5 no longer work? I had heard older versions of Sonos products might no longer work with the new app.

Hi, and thank you very much for your question. Earlier this year we released our S2 platform. Some of our older products just don't have the processing power needed for future updates. However, we didn't want to cause speakers that our longest, and most loyal customers have owned for years to stop working. So we have both apps available for use. If can still use your older products that are only compatible with S1 if you buy this products, however they will have to be on a different system. So they would not be able to be grouped with any of our products that you put on S2. The Sonos 5 is only S2 compatible. It depends which Play 5 you have on whether it can be put on S2 or not. So to be clear, regardless you'll be able to use your old products, they just may have to be separated from anything else that's on S2 if they are on S1. Can the Sonos 5 be mounted on the outside of our home under protection/roof?

Hi, and thank you for your question. The Sonos 5 is not designed to be an outdoor speaker. Depending on where you live, the winter can play a factor in this as well. We have heard of customers doing this, however, it's not designed for it and we don't recommend it.
