This laptop comes with a one year subscription to Office 365. Can the laptop be taken home, started up and used with Excel without ever connecting to the Internet ?

No, you will need to connect to the internet at least once to initiate Windows 10. Microsoft Office 365 won't start until Windows 10 is initiated/setup. Once Windows 10 is initiated/setup, you will be able to use Microsoft Office 365 without being connected to the internet again.

Interestingly, no one from Lenovo bothers to help me after I bought the computer on January 20, 2017. Poor service. I even called them and getting run around three, four times to no avail. How am I able to create a Recovery Disc. I am fed up with them.

Click on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "recovery discs" in the search window. Click on "Create Recovery Drive" from the list of options. Follow the instructions. You will need at least 5 DVD discs, or a flash drive with at least 16GB of storage space or a Cloud Storage account with at least 16GB of available space.
