The "M" series of processors from Intel are mobile device processors. They are meant to extend battery life. They do this by lowering the clock speed of the processor at idle to conserve power. The "I" series processors from Intel are traditional processors. They tend to have shorter battery life but higher clock speeds when the processors are at idle. If you need 6 to 10 hours of battery life (depending on the work you are doing with your computer), core m processors are for you. If you need maximum performance/power and battery life is less important, core I processors are for you.
