It is unlikely that the new battery pack caused a short that damaged the camera, and if you did get the right battery pack and the problem persists I would have the camcorder looked at by an authorized service technician. If you are still within your manufacturer's warranty period you could contact the manufacturer, and they should either have you ship the camera into one of their repair centers or they might have a list of authorized service centers in your area. If this doesn't work I would have the laptop looked at by an authorized service technician to see if there is something physically wrong with the laptop.
