How do I retrieve data on from my Sony Mavica disk?

I have a very outdated Sony Mavica camera that records pictures to a small disk. I have had numerous problems retrieving pictures from the disks, which hold about 91 pictures, so you can imagine my frustration. I do initialize the disk. The problems arise before I finalize a disk, which I don't usually do until I take 90 pictures. The readout on the screen is: disk error.
Most of the Sony Mavica used a 3.5 Floppy Disk. Assuming yours is the Floppy Disk version, this is a hard to find media and is not a reliable as it used to be. You might get the camera to function again by getting a Floppy Disk cleaner. Make sure it is a Wet version not a Dry Head Cleaner.
Some times the loading mechanism is the cause of errors. It may need to be serviced and cleaned also. You could try inserting and ejecting the disk a few times rapidly to try seating the disk properly.
As for getting old photos off an old disk....first you will have to have a Floppy drive on your computer. If it is a newer computer chances are it does not have one. There are external USB Floppy drives available : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...
However if the Disk is damaged or has bad sectors you may not be able to retrieve many or any photos at all.
Again this is assuming yours is the Floppy Disk version. There were a few models that used a CD and you could try a head cleaner on these.

Can I use old Canon SLR lenses in a new digital model?

I have an old Canon EOS 3000 SLR pack with 28-70 mm lenses and would like to know if it can be used in any new digital SLR Canon model. Would it be needed an adaptor?
You do not need an adapter. If it is a Auto Focus lens it will connect up just fine...however..there is a conversion factor to keep in mind. The sensor on a D-SLR is commonly smaller than a 35mm film standard. Most Canon D-SLR cameras are 1.6 conversion and some are 1.3 and 1.1 (5D Full Frame). So your 28-70mm lens may work as a 48-112mm zoom lens.

which camcorder can also be used as a webcam?

The list of camcorders that can be used as webcams could be a VERY long list. Pretty much any camcorders with a USB connection on it could be used as a webcam. The OS and the Messaging Software just have to see it and recognize it as a I/O Device. You might want to consider a multi function Camcorder. Oddly enough the more inexpensive ones that do Photos, Videos, Mp3 and YouTube Videos, these type of Camcorders usually are Webcams also.

Need a camera compatible with Microsoft Millenium

I'm looking for an inexpensive camera that is compatible with my ancient computer that runs Microsoft Millenium. Every camera I looked at in the store requires XP or newer. A new computer is not in my budget, but need a camera for my job.
Millennium was a short lived and rather unpopular OS. Unless you need to connect the camera directly to the computer any camera should work with Millennium. The image file taken by the camera is a JPEG file and that can be viewed on any OS. The OS requirement is for direct connection and using the supplied software for the camera. You can get a card reader to connect to the computer and use it to read the memory media from the camera. It might be slow, I cant' remember but I don't believe that Millennium supports USB 2.0 or for that matter if the mother board that is in your computer will have USB 2.0.
You might also consider doing a OS Upgrade to XP.

My KodakEasyShare C913 says you need 512 mb of Ram, my PC has only 125

On the system requirements on the box for my Kodak Easy Share camera it says required, at least 512 mb of ram, my pc has only 125mb's. I plan on only using the camera for uploading pics to ebay and web sites. Can I do this without ruining my pc?
If the software will install it would cause the computer to run extremely slow...to the point of frustration. It might cause some heat issues and excessive wear on the hard drive form constant writing of page files. This is a file that the computer writes to itself when there is not much memory....kinda like how we would write a note to ourselves to help us remember things to do...this repeated writing and erasing causes wear, heat and fragmentation. None of which is good for a computer.
Looking at it this way. A digital photo is compressed. Straight from the camera it is approx 3 megs and then expands to 16 megs(or more) in the photo program. The photo program is using up to 50 megs to run plus you have an operating system running and that is a minimum of 60-80 megs. All this added up does not leave much room. It would be best to add more memory...as the saying goes...”You can NEVER have too much Memory”.

Are 8mm video tape players still available.

Can I buy a new 8mm video player of any brand any more or are they all out of production.
I am not sure if they are ALL out of production but there are still a few NEW decks available. Most of the ones I found were Sony. Do a Google search for Sony 8mm Deck and you should get the same results I did. You can also use a Digital 8 deck or camcorder to play back 8mm tapes too.

recover data from an unfinalized DVD recorded from Sony DVD handycam

I used Memorex DVD in my SOny Handycam and as a result the DVD will not finalize. It seemed to record fine but when I tried to finalize the dvd it I got Disk error C:13:02. Is there a way to finalize this DVD so that I can watch the video that was recorded on it?
If you can still play the footage on the camcorder your only choice may be to copy the footage to another recorder by the A/V (Audio Video) Cables. If you cannot see the footage than there may not be a way to recover it...there may be nothing to finalize. One other chance is to take the disk to a BestBuy and try finalizing it on one of the Sony Demo Camcorders on display.

Please help me pick a camcorder.

I need a camcorder to shoot my sons racing. It can be in any format, but I would like the best image quality with a long zoom, low light capabilty, & able to capture fast moving objects for under $1000.
There are several good choices of camcorders that are in the $750-$999 range. The 3ccd camcorders will give some of the sharpest images and all have decent zooms (12x -15x). Sony's have Super Steady
Shot (helpful for fast moving subjects) and good night/low light recording. All should record fast subjects well. It would be best to stop by your nearest BestBuy and look at the ones on display, see how they feel to you and look at ease of use.

can best buy repair digital cameras?

It would be best to take it to your nearest BestBuy and let the Geek Squad take a look. If it can be repaired they will let you know if they can or if it will need to be sent out for repair.
