i have 2 children ages 4 and 6, i am looking for a digital camera that is both sturdy and easy to use and also inexpensive. what should i get?

Children are the most popular and the most tricky subjects to photograph. Compacts are convenient and easy to carry however you may miss some shots due to shutter lag time. An Advanced Camera will give you some of the features of a D-SLR without the price. You will have more creative control than a compact camera and faster shutter response time. But limited to the attached lens as compared to the interchangeable lenses of a full D-SLR. The D-SLR will give you the most control. No shutter lag time, continues shooting mode (burst mode), stronger flash, unlimited expandability and longer durability. As to “easy to use”....every camera...compact, advanced and yes..even D-SLR has a setting for FULL AUTO where it is just “Point-N-Shot”.

Panasonci HS9 PAL compatible

I am traveling from Ireland to Orlando in the near future and want to buy a PAL compatible camcorder. Is it possible to buy the Panasonic HS9 in the Orange Blossem trail shop?
It might be available but might not be in PAL. It is tricky to find the PAL format in the States. You might want to get the Camcorder before you leave Ireland.

What is the best digital camera that also shoots long videos of good quality?

Some Advanced Cameras such as Canon – PowerShot, Kodak - EasyShare and others will record lengthy video clips. The common screen size is limited to 640x480. Some will record in what they call HD but is still not a true Video Resolution. The video formats also vary. Some recording in AVI format and some in Quicktime MPEG-4 and so on. Digital cameras are designed to take Photos at the best quality they can. Video is just an added feature for sending over the internet. Video camcorders take photos too, but the quality is not as good as a true digital photo camera.
If your looking to shoot long video clips, 5mins or longer, you may want to look at a camcorder that will take photos at a quality you will find acceptable.

Any suggested brands for a Digital Camcorder under $500

I am looking for an inexpensive Digital Camcorder to tape my sons birth next week. I don't have a lot of money, and I would like to be able to transfer the video to my computer to burn a DVD. Any suggested brands under $500?
There are many good camcorders under $500 from all the major manufactures that will take care of recording this happy occasion. If you want to Edit the footage on a computer it will be easier to work with miniDV, other formats may need conversion. You can get a DV bridge such as the Dazzle from Pinnicle that will capture your footage through the USB port, regardless of what format it was recorded on, and then you can edit and burn a DvD. If editing is not a concern you could either get a camcorder that is DvD based or get, if you don't already have, a stand alone DvD recorder that you can just connect the camcorder directly to and record a DvD.

Is it possible to get a remote for the Canon Powershot 8.0MP camera?

I'm going to be buying a new camera but I'd like the camera I'm buying to be able to be operated buy a remote also. So does anyone know if one would work with it?
Have not found any 8mp Canon models with remote yet. There are some Sony models that do come with a remote. You might want to check on those. Store availability may vary.

Which camcorder?

Which camcorder would be best for shooting videos and then uploading them onto the internet, Example Youtube.
Aiptek, Casio and Samsung have had various models that are YouTube friendly. Check your nearest BestBuy for availability. Also some Advanced Digital Cameras have a video feature that are perfect for the Internet and , depending on the length of video you need, may work well for YouTube.

What's the megapixel difference?

Whats the difference between a digial camera with 8.1 megapixel and a digital camera with 10.1 megapixel? Besides being bigger and a high price whats the difference?
A much more detailed shot. Fine lines will have less aliasing (stair steep look). You can crop out unwanted areas and still have a high megapixel image. If you have a 5 megapixel image and you crop out 2mp of unwanted area you are left with only a 3 mp photo...not very much to work with. If you have a 10mp image and crop out 3-4mp you still have over a 6mp image that still can be enlarged and look really good. The difference between a 8.1 and 10.1 may not be that visible in 5x7 or 8x10 prints, but will be noticeable when enlarged to 11x14 or bigger.

Which format is the most compact?

The most important feature for me is the size of the camcorder, if it is too big I won't be bothered to take it with me, so I need something to take around Disney and up the ski slopes which is small enough to go in an inside pocket or around my neck.
The most “compact” models are the Flash based camcorders. Panasonic making some of the smallest full featured camcorders and even some 3ccd models. NOTE: Keep in mind that if you want to edit the footage you shot, Flash based and Hard Drive based camcorder files may need converting before you can edit them.
