What is the best camcorder format for video editing?

This is a question that many have wondered.
I have used MiniDV for many years. One draw back to this format is the real time required for capture to the computer, the storage and care of tapes and the limited re-use. Hard Drive Camcorders have many benefits. No tapes to carry, instant transfer to the computer and faster finding of wanted footage. The new Flash Memory based models are similar to the Hard Drive models, plus ease of archiving, and nearly unlimited re-use. There may be some conversion time from HD to SD. The DvD format based camcorders are a little tricky to edit from.

Which Camera would be best?

My school is putting in a grant to buy cameras for 5 teachers. We need ones that have a rechargeable bat., easy to use, under $200.00 and can be used with our software Microsoft office picture manager.
There are many cameras that will fit all you requirements, too many to list here. When choosing your cameras, also look for the highest Optical Zoom that you can find before it goes to Digital Zoom. This will give you the best images. Image stabilization is also helpful in addition to larger megapixel size.

which camera is better for me?

well i am looking at 2 different cameras...a canon powershot g9 and a canon sd 870 IS. i mainly take pictures of my kids and sporting events and put them on the computer and print them for my family. which is better? i want something that will take fast pictures so i dont miss a smile or something.
The PowerShot G9 has higher megapixels (12 vs 8) so cropping the photos will still leave you with a larger image to print. The zoom is also higher (6x vs 4x), this is always a favorable feature. Plus the G9 has Image Stabilization. Between these two, the PowerShot G9 camera should take care of all your photo needs and more.

how about the olympus 1010

thinking about the 1010 but cant find anything on it. any comments?
The reviews and ratings I have seen on both the “u“ and the “Stylus” 1010 have been very favorable. Do a search in Google under “Olympus 1010 reviews”.

Photo Enlarging

Which camera's would be best for printing bigger pictures, like an 8 x 10?
A Digital -SLR will give you the best enlargements. A compact's sensor is a little bigger than the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil compared to the sensor on a D-SLR that is bigger than a nickel (both are square of course). Also the more megapixels you have the better the enlargements. This will also allow you to crop out unwanted areas in the photo and still keep a high enough quality photo to enlarge.
If you have a 10 megapixel and crop out 20% of the image you still have a 8 megapixel image left for enlargement.

What camera is good for my 70 year old mother?

If she has not had a digital camera before you may want to get her a camera that is uncomplicated and has image stabilization to help until she is used to how to hold the camera for a steady shot. Olympus, Panasonic and Sony all have rugged, easy to use compact cameras that have very good image stabilization features.

Can you copy video from a High Def Camcorder to a DVD that will play on a standard DVD player?

Well....yes..kinda...sorta. You can play the video from the camcorder out to the DvD recorder but it will step down to SD (Standard Definition) quality. If your Camcorder is recording in AVCHD..and..you copy the file to the computer and burn a DvD with the file on it, that DvD should play on a Blue Ray DvD player in HD.

Im looking for a camcorder that also allows me to take digital photos any recommendations ?

Almost ALL Camcorders take photos (look on top of the camcorder for a photo button). Keep in mind that the quality will not be as good as a Compact digital camera will take. Some Camcorders are as high as 5 megapixel. Generally they are only 1-2 megapixel.

Is there a digital camera that records videos that can be uploaded?

Is there a digital camera that records videos that can be uploaded? which is the best?
Many of the compact digital cameras have a Video and Audio recording function. These are of limited quality but still surprisingly good, mostly of a quality with uploading as e-mail attachment in mind. Some models can record at 30fps (frames per second). There are far too many cameras to list here. Stop by your nearest BestBuy and ask to see the compact cameras with A/V (Audio Video) recording mode.
