I am an artist, I would like to take high quality pictures of my artworks for my portfolio and website. Any suggestions? I've never had DSLR camera before.
Any of the Digital-SLR cameras will work well for this. There are some things that will help with this type of photos. Put the camera in "P" mode not Auto. You don't want the Flash on the camera to wash out the picture or give it a hot spot. When you have the photo taken and it is on the computer you will see a slight distortion that you didn't see in the view finder. The top might be narrower than the bottom. This happens with all cameras. Take it into an image editing program to fix this by widening the area to even the photo back out.
Which lens to buy for long distance nature/wildlife
I am looking for a lens that I can use to capture nice landscapes, nature, and wildlife in a distance, and possbly the moon at night. I have the Nikon D60 camera, which lens would be best?
For basic nature/wildlife daytime shooting you could get by with a 70-300mm lens and maybe add a teleconverter of 1.5x giving you up to a 450mm lens. This would also give you nice moon shots with some cropping. For landscapes you may want to look at a wider angle lens. Around a 18-55mm.
I want to buy my 1st DSLR. I have a SMC pentax-FA 1:3.5-5.6 28-80 mm film lens that I would like to use. Which camera/body would you recommend to get full advantage of using this lens?
You could of course look at any of the Pentax bodies. I would recommend that you take the lens with you to your nearest BestBuy and try it on one of the demo cameras. There will be a conversion factor on film lenses used on Digital-SLR bodies. There is a conversion of 1.6 which means the 28-80mm lens will work like a 45-128mm lens. For a first time buy and keeping that lens you could get a body only camera. There is a refurbished one at a great price.

It is hard to say just how much a 4gb will hold length wise. Each camera brand uses a different type of compression and it can also depend on weather it is 1080p HD or 720p HD or Standard Definition (SD). Some averages are 18min for 1080p..22min for 720p..up to 1 hour for SD on a 4gb. Double for 8gb.
When shooting sports photos one of the key factors is a high FPS (Frames Per Second). This allows the capture of faster sequence shots when there is fast action. Both the Canon Xs and Nikon D3000 are rated at up to 3fps. Higher would be better. Both sports shots and night shots are dependent on a good lens. The more light the lens lets in the better and the faster the shutter speed can be set for freezing action. These two cameras are very close to each other in specs. Look at a 75-300mm lens for the sports and a f/1.4 lens for low light shooting.
Digital-SLR cameras vary in their max shutter speed. Entry level cameras are around 1/3000 and some might go up to 1/4000. Higher D-SLR cameras can go as high as 1/8000. When shooting with shutter speeds this high the lens needs to be fast. A f/1.2 lens. A higher ISO can be used but that will also make for a noisy photo.
This function is generally called "Live View". Compact cameras should always have this activated. If you do not see an image on the LCD screen than it might be in need of service. Not all Digital-SLR cameras have Live View. Some have several steps to turn this feature on and some have one button. The Display button on most cameras just put information about the image on the screen when the image is displayed.
A Macro lens is what works best for close up photography. Depending on what brand camera you have there might be a Macro lens under $300. There is also after market lenses such as Tamron and Sigma that great lenses that are less expensive than oem lenses.

There are several different types of memory and many brands of memory; SD(Secure Disk) and SDHC(Secure Disk High Capacity) are the more common now. SD will work in SDHC devices but SDHC will not work in SD only devices. CF (Compact Flash) is now more commonly found in Digital-SLR but there are some that are SDHC. Sony Memory Stick Duo only work in Sony. Olympus also has a xD memory for some of their cameras. There is also a deference in speed between brands...faster is always better. Just because a camera is a certain brand does not mean that it has to use that brand of memory, just the right type.
