You cant go wrong with any of these three.
Canon has a wider range of lens selection however, Sony is catching up and can use most Minolta lenses. Sony also has Image Stabilization built into the body of the camera (Steady Shot) and wireless control of Sony Speed/Zoom flash off camera.
Nikon has several models that also shoot HD video with sound.
Which one is better...that is a question that is hard to answer. I have many friends in the photo club that shoot Canon and Nikon...I sold my Canon gear and shoot only Sony.
It would be best for you to stop by your nearest BestBuy, try several cameras at the demo area. Look at the features that best suit what shooting you want to do now, you can always upgrade later.
