will the canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 111zoom lens work on the canon powershot s5is

Although the Powershot S5is looks like a Digital-SLR camera it does not have a removable lens. The 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for Digital-SLR cameras.

whats the difference between 720 and 1080i

720 is a shorter way of saying the HD resolution of 1280×720.
1080i is a resolution of 1920×1080.
The " i " refers to frame progression type. Interlaced is " i " and progressive is " p".

What is the best memory card for the Canon EOS Rebel 10.1 MP?

Depending on if it uses either a CF (Compact Flash) or a SDHC (Secure Disk High Capacity) any brand will work.

I have a mini Pansonic PVGS39 and wanted to know if a DV cable would allow me to play what was on the camera directly to my computer?

The DV cable will allow the camera to connect to a computer using some type of capture software like Windows Movie Maker.

What does it mean to get a f-stop of f/2.8 or f/1.8?

I am considering buying a DSLR that has good picture quality, is good for action shots, but isn't too expensive. I prefer Canon but I don't really know the differences between some of the cameras and which lenses would be most beneficial. What camera/ lenses/ other accessories should I get?
The f-stop refers to how the Lens works with letting light in. F/2.8 and f/1.8 are what is called a Fast lens because they let in a lot of light allowing usage of faster shutter speeds.
The lens is what goes to the f-stop settings...not the camera.
Any of the cameras you have chosen will work great...it is the lenses you choose that get the clarity and speed out of the camera.
This is one of the more popular ones..in the Canon "L" Series.
