Great for a rugged, waterproof experience

The purpose of this speaker is to have a Bluetooth speaker that will survive drops, falls, spills, being dropped into water, sand at the beach, etc. With that purpose in mind, this is a good speaker. Is the sound quality as good as some other Bluetooth speakers in this price range? No, it's not. But that's not the point.
The sound is decent, albeit heavy on the treble with very little bass. Using the equalizer feature on my phone to add some bass only created distortion. Rock, Country, etc will sound good. Anything that's heavy on bass will be lacking. It can get loud but it starts to distort at higher levels. But again, that's not the point.
When it comes to having a Bluetooth speaker that gives you a worry free experience, this is great. I have taken this outside and dropped it onto concrete from a few feet in the air. I filled up the sink and submerged the speaker, while it was playing music, for a few minutes. Unless you hold it down, it floats. Again, a great thing for people who camp, have a lake house or a boat, or just go to the beach a lot. Dirt doesn't get in and any dirt you get on it can just be washed off by running it under the sink or with a hose. That my friends, is THE POINT of this speaker.
It can take a beating and still come back for more. I have another brand that has much better sound quality, but if I take it into the garage while I'm doing work or outside, I always have to carefully place it and make sure it doesn't fall or get wet. This speaker has good enough sound quality and alleviates all of those concerns with having it outside. Also, with the way it's designed, you can stand it on end or even use the handles on the ends to hang it from a ladder or wherever if you're working and don't have a place to set it.
I gave it 4 stars for decent sound quality, number of ports and options for playing music, ease of Bluetooth connectivity and overall design and ruggedness. I did mark one star off because in my water test, I notice that while the water was mostly kept out of the dry box compartment, there were some drops pretty close to making it in (see pictures). The only concern there is the usb and aux jacks that don't have covers. Honestly you wouldn't be able to put much in the drybox outside of some credit cards, cash, keys, etc. Maybe an ipod shuffle or nano for listening to music, but it is a very small compartment. I'm also not a huge fan of the proprietary charger but I have other's that have the same issue so I can't take a star away. Just be aware of it.
For someone looking for a speaker for in the house or at the office, I wouldn't recommend this. For someone who wants to give this to a young child, or someone who does construction or just works outside a lot, I would highly recommend this. If you are near the water or go to the beach a lot and need a speaker, this is for you. There is a larger version that might have a little more kick to it but I think this is a good travel size. Battery life was a little over 12 hours in my test...oh, and it has 2 USB power out ports so you can charge your phone from the speaker. In a pinch, that could end up being the best feature! So if you're the type who likes stuff to just work out of the box and stand up to your abuse, I recommend.

I was excited to try out the Panasonic Arc3 but after having used it for 10 days, I'm ready to put it in a drawer for a while.
What's good: The design feels nice in the hand. If you use this in the shower you'll be able to maintain your grip thanks to the rubberlike outer material wrapping the body. Also, the piece that extends out to do edging and trimming actually works great. It cuts easily and is precise. The shaver is very easy to clean after use.
What's not so good: The charging base is a plug in brick that the shaver sits directly in. The brick then gets plugged directly into an outlet with the shaver sitting on top of it. If you don't have a lot of clearance above your bathroom outlet or don't have a lot of outlets in the bathroom, this will be an issue. If it dies while you're shaving, you're out of luck because it can't be operated while plugged in. Also, it takes 8 hours to charge the shaver (16 if it's completely dead), and there is no battery indicator on the device to tell you where you're at. Fully charged I have been able to get around 4 shaves before it needs to be re-charged.The manual says 54 minutes of power on full charge which is probably close. The same manual says the battery needs to be replaced at 3 yrs, so that's pretty much the shelf life of the shaver because it's built in.
Another shortcoming for me is that the design of the head doesn't seem to be able to get a clean cut without going over the same spot 3-4 times. I have tried to use this in the shower, with and without shaving cream, and just dry. No matter what the conditions, it takes multiple passes and still leaves stubble in spots. Sometimes I've just given up and grabbed a razor to quick finish up a few spots that this won't seem to get no matter how many times I try. Under the chin and around the mouth/under the nose seem to be the biggest trouble areas for this shaver. I would attribute that to it's inability to adjust well to contours and curves.
I wanted to like this shaver but I would have trouble recommending it based on my experience.

I wouldn't say I'm a heavy wine drinker but I do enjoy wine with certain meals or when entertaining. However, an issue has always been with the sulfites in certain wines that my girlfriend can't tolerate. I also notice that whenever I drink a few glasses of wine I wake up with a headache the next day, which is something I don't experience with high ABV beers or liquor. So I was excited to try out this product.
I tried this with a red blend from Cupcake Vineyards and a Diamond from Goose Watch in the Finger Lakes. One thing I noticed is that when dealing with the red wine, the aeration definitely improves the taste/texture because it opens up the wine and lets air in as it filters. On the white, this wasn't as important so we turned off the air feature.
Overall, there wasn't a major difference in taste, which is something that the inventors point out. The purpose is not to change the taste of the wine, it's to remove the sulfites which are the preservative in the wine. To that end, this product most likely worked because the next morning, no headache and no adverse reactions from the girlfriend.
The packaging and quality of the product are top notch. The unit is easy to put together and take apart for cleaning or changing filters. This is a well built and designed wine filter that even comes with a display stand. I can see why it's $79 but my 1 star reduction is due to the filters. You essentially need a new filter for every bottle, or no more than 3 hours after last use which I presume is based on having the same exact wine. The filters are not cheap and if you buy the biggest pack option I think it comes out to around $3 per filter. That's an ongoing expense that might make some people think twice, but if this product allows you to enjoy wines that you've never been able to before, then maybe it's worth it and you just include it in the cost of the bottle.
I would recommend it to a friend if they are a wine lover or if they are restricted to certain wines because of the sulfites but want to have access to more varieties. Having a carafe or 2 would be ideal if you are entertaining so you could filter multiple bottles into the carafes and not have to wait for each glass to filter through (it does take a minute). Interesting invention for wine lovers and hopefully as it continues to be refined and evolve they will find a way to eliminate the need for filter replacements or make them cheaper.

Powerful handheld vacuum but some limitations

I currently own a Dyson upright and also a Dyson canister vac, along with the Dyson hairdryer. So I'm definitely a fan of Dyson. I was excited to try out one of their handheld cordless vacs to see how they stacked up. The quality of the machine and it's packaging does not disappoint. It feels solid and everything snaps together easily and securely. Setup was easy and took about 5 minutes to un-box everything, peel labels and put it together.
I have used this machine several times and it does a great job with bare floors and low pile carpets. It's terrific for stairs and getting up in the corners by the ceiling. I haven't had the chance yet but I imagine this would be perfect for cleaning out the car. The brush head turns by the force of the suction, so it's not powered. The issue there is that you can't turn it off to do hardwood floors. Unlike my canister Dyson that has an air diverter switch to stop the brush from spinning, this one spins non-stop. Dyson makes an attachment that has a brush specifically for hardwoods but like most Dyson products, it's not cheap. For those with thick, plush carpeting, this will not work well on those types of carpet. I tested it and the brush head would stop spinning immediately when it hit the thick carpet.
The other limitation I found is in battery life. With the battery fully charged, I was able to get about 8 minutes of cleaning on average before it died. This was on the Max Suction setting. The regular setting got me about 15 minutes on average. So it's really built for spot cleaning or easier cleaning of the stairs and bathrooms where it might be tough to get a big vacuum, not cleaning the whole house.
You're not going to replace your household vacuum with this but it is a typical Dyson, meaning it's high quality with lots of power. If you are looking for something that is simple and easy to use, that you can grab quickly if there's a mess or use to clean the car and furniture, this is perfect. So it does have value as a supplement to your household vacuum and I would recommend it to others. I give it one star off because of the inability to stop the brush head from spinning, but otherwise it's a great handheld.

Good for really, really big homes

I was really hoping that this was finally the product that would give us consistent wifi throughout the house. Our home is around 2,000 sqft but it's 3 levels. The internet comes into the house in the basement which is where the Fios box and router are. So the problem has always been a weak signal on the second floor, and bad spots on the first floor.
I thought a mesh network would finally solve this problem. The main unit could be in the basement and provide good wifi to the basement and most of the first floor, while another node on the 2nd floor, on the opposite side of the house, would fill in the gap and cover that floor plus the spots on the floor below it that receive a weak signal due to walls/pipes/insulation, etc. The problem is that you need a really, really big house to make this work properly.
The nodes are powerful and I don't doubt Linksys's claim that each one will cover 2,200 sqft. I ran a long cable and set one up on the first floor of the house all by itself. It provides a full signal to most of the house, but again, there are spots where it drops way down due to the construction. But, going back to the original setup, no matter where I placed the other nodes, I could not get devices in the house to connect to anything other than the primary node in the basement. You can't manually select which one you want to get the signal from. This means that a chromecast or wemo switch on the 2nd floor is still getting it's signal from the basement and on the linksys app it shows up as a weak signal. I ran a speed test on my phone upstairs and it's coming in at 32mbps vs 83mbps when I'm standing down near the main node.
The reason for the dropoff in speed is because I can't switch nodes. So my phone auto switches to 2.4Ghz instead of using the 5Ghz band. The 5Ghz is the faster band but I can't use it except within a short distance of the basement node because it doesn't travel through walls well. Again, if I could manually select which node I want stuff to connect to, and if I could use the Linksys app to specify that I want to use the 5Ghz band so that my phone would switch between nodes as I moved around the house, that would be perfect. That's what I expected from a mesh network and it's not what's happening.
So for me, it's a nice looking router but for someone in an average, 2,000sqft house, don't bother getting more than 1 unit because you'll never be able to get away from the main node, even if the wifi drops off a bit and you get pushed to the slower 2.4Ghz band. It provides a good signal but nothing that blows away other routers and the inability to select the 5Ghz band is a weakness. It's too bad because I was really excited to finally have a solution for our home but it looks like I'll have to keep searching.

Best hairdryer I've ever used

I was a bit skeptical at first about the Dyson hairdryer. I've been using various hairdryers my whole life but this is a completely new design and take on these machines and there were a lot of promises about quieter operation, better results, etc.
However, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the Dyson! The overall construction and design makes it a lot easier to maneuver while drying my hair. I have fine, straight hair and have always had to dry my hair upside down in order to get the most body out of my hair. I would still end up with a ton of fly-aways.
Using the Dyson, I started without any attachments to get some of the moisture out of my hair and then I used the smoothing attachment. The unit was set in the middle for heat and airflow and I would say that my hair was dry in less than 5 minutes. I finished with the “cool shot” and had only a few fly-aways. My hair was a lot shinier and aside from touching up a few ends, I didn’t need to use my flatiron. By not needing the flatiron, using the Dyson has shaved 10-15 minutes off my bathroom routine!

If you’ve ever owned anything from Dyson, you already know the packaging is second to none. Everything was neatly organized and protected within the box and the quality of the packing materials is outstanding. Of course all of this technology, innovation and quality materials and packaging come with a price. That will probably be the biggest deterrent to most people looking at this product. It definitely has the cool factor going for it and there are benefits to using it as noted above. Overall, it is a great product and if you have the extra money to spend on a high quality product that will likely last a while, I highly recommend it.

Great brush heads

Over the last 12 years I had several competing brand power toothbrushes with spin heads. This head design from Philips is hands down better than the competition. It's gentle on the gums but gets a deep clean. They contour to the teeth and are just the right size for coverage. Construction is solid and they feel like a premium product in your hand. If you're looking for a deeper clean or whitening, there are separate brush heads that will help accomplish those goals. I like the Philips has distinct brush heads for different purposes rather than just trying to have a 1 size fits all brush head. I'm very happy with them and at the end of the day it's hard to brush without brush heads!

Outstanding toothbrush

This is my 3rd electric toothbrush but my first Sonicare. The other two were a competitor that featured a round, spinning head. The first two each lasted about 6 years each so I've been using a power brush for a little over 12 years now.
This is the best one I've used. It is significantly quieter than my last brush and does a better job at getting my teeth clean. It is lighter and easier to maneuver than the competitor and looks better too. One of the features I really like is the ability to choose the intensity level and also choose from Clean, White or Deep Clean, depending on what your goal is and which brush head you're using. This model comes with a regular Cleaning brush head and a Deep Clean head included in the package. It also includes a travel case which is important because my last two didn't have this and when traveling I had to find a way to block the button from getting pushed while in a suitcase. Problem solved.
It has bluetooth and there is a companion app for coaching. It tells you which areas you didn't spend enough time on, if you're pressing too hard, etc. The app is neat and I tested it out, but half the time the app would crash so I didn't get much benefit from it. The toothbrush itself will tell you if you're putting too much pressure. It also has a pacing feature so you know when it's time to move to the next area of your mouth. After 2 minutes it automatically turns off.
Overall, I have noticed an increase in the way my teeth and gums feel after about a week of use. The app is cool but glitchy right now so I marked 1 star off for that reason only. The brush itself is excellent but since this is marketed with the app as a feature, Philips must be held accountable for it as a weakness right now. Hopefully some updates will remedy the issues there.
If you don't care about the app at all, this is an outstanding toothbrush and I would rate the toothbrush on it's own as a 5 star product.

Outstanding sound

I wasn't sure what to expect with these. On one hand, they're ear buds that are not noise cancelling. On the other hand, they're Bose. Packaging was excellent as it always is with a premium produce like Bose. The box included the headphones, charging cable, 2 extra pairs of the rubber ear tips, a small circular pouch to hold the earbuds when not in use, and the standard quick start guide/warranty/safety notices.
Setup was simple if you already have the Bose Connect app downloaded. Push the power button on the earbud, make sure your phone's NFC is turned on, and just tap the earbud against the back of your phone. The app will ask if you'd like to pair them and if you want to change the name. That's it, you're off and running.
Sound quality is outstanding for earbuds and they are extremely comfortable when sitting in your ear. Good bass but just all around sound is what you'd expect from Bose. There is a connecting wire that runs behind your head and there is an inline mic along with controls for volume, skip songs and taking/making calls. Not sure how accurate the heart rate monitor is but it's a nice feature to pair up with apps like Runkeeper. I'm definitely a person who sweats a lot, and these had no issues handling that. It was also raining when I was outside with them and no issues at all.
Overall, these are outstanding earbuds. The heart rate feature to me isn't something that's necessary but it can be turned off. These are probably the best sounding and most comfortable in-ear headphones you can buy right now and I would absolutely recommend them.

Versatile Coffee Maker

The Ninja came nicely packaged and was easy to unpack and set up. The last time I owned a coffee maker it was one of the older ones that filled up a 12 cup glass carafe. I've used the "K" machines and the nice thing about the Ninja is that it doesn't require you to go out and buy little plastic cups of coffee. You can use any ground coffee that you enjoy and use more or less depending on how strong you would like the brew to be.
The Ninja also has multiple settings (see pictures) for the size cup you're looking to fill; the strength of the blend or Iced Coffee if you prefer that. Since we primarily drink Iced Coffee in our house, this feature is a big money saver. We haven't had a chance to make a "Ninjaccino" yet but it does have that feature available and we'll try it out at some point.
Another common complaint with these types of machines is that the water line can develop mold. This one has a nice feature button for CLEAN which runs through a cycle of 22oz of water to flush out the lines. If this sits for any amount of time I would recommend running it to make sure you've got fresh water, just set it to Cup so you're not wasting a lot of water. Before you use it the first time out of the box you'll need to run 2 clean cycles on the XL Travel Mug size to really flush it out.
There is no glass carafe that comes with this unit. It's designed for you to use with your own mugs. It will fit XL travel mugs all the way down to a regular coffee cup. Depending on the size of the cup, it has a fold down tray to hold the smaller cups up closer to the drip mechanism or fold it up for larger travel mugs.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who needs a solution for flexibility between producing large amounts of coffee or just a single serving without breaking the bank on refill cartridges.
