Great starter mirrorless camera
on October 25, 2022
Posted by: Leonardo
As someone interested in photography and wanted to start out on the hobby, this camera was a great choice. Paired with a good general purpose lens, you really get a feel for what kind of pictures you like to take. What is great is that you are able to go all out on the RF lens lineup and be able to reuse them in Canon's other mirrorless cameras should you need to upgrade in the future.
The camera itself is pretty easy to use. The software that comes with allow you to choose different shooting scenes and let the camera do all the work in picking the best options for you. For a beginner, this gives you the best way to test different settings at a time and still get great pictures. If you decide to go full manual, the buttons for the most part are pretty user friendly. You have your shutter speed dial for the index finger, and you can control the aperture with either the dial on the power button, or a combination of holding another button with your thumb and sliding the shutter dial. There doesn't seem to be a ISO adjuster without going through some menus. The quick options menu can sometimes get in the way, you'll find your palm accidentally pressing some buttons when trying to get a good grip on the camera. You are able to lock it though, but that locks all the buttons which may not be desirable if you're trying to find the right settings. The screen is a touchscreen, and leaves little to no fingerprints when using. It is very responsive and fully adjustable to face in any direction you need it to. If you are used to using a back button, like on a smartphone, you'll really start to wish that was a dedicated button. There can be quite a few inconsistencies as to which button will let you go back when going through the menus. Reviewing your pictures is a little limited as you'll have to go picture by picture. Sometimes you'll want to have a filesystem so you can quickly review your photos. You can connect to the camera from your computer with a usb-c cable and browse your photos that way, which is convenient. This also allows you to charge your battery so you don't need to use the dedicated wall charger. It's a little disappointing that it only comes with one battery, but you can find replacement LP-E17 batteries elsewhere. The manual that comes with is very sparse in what it tells you. Canon has one on their site that goes into way more detail about each functionality.
Overall, I really like this camera. You don't have to break the bank to get some quality photos, and if anything, a lot of the picture quality comes from the user's skill. The auto function does a great job and you'll find it usually gives you what you want. I am looking forward to taking this on my future trips and documenting all the memories.

One of the most enjoyable to use laptop available
on September 18, 2022
Posted by: Leonardo
The Lenovo Legion Slim 7, one of the best gaming laptops I've used to far. Not just in terms of performance, but quality of life all around. Many of the other laptops would add their weird quirk to make their product unique, but Lenovo does none of that and come out on top. There is honestly not much I would add as this is already a near perfect gaming laptop.
To start things off, this is an all AMD laptop. A monstrous CPU paired with a mid-high range GPU, this laptop will handle any game at the 1600p resolution, and if it is struggling a little you can go to 1200p and everything will be buttery smooth. If anything can be called a bottleneck in this machine, it would be the SSD. Benchmarked to be around 1700 MB/s, it is half the speed of a respectable NVMe drive. There is one DDR5 module, so no dual channel memory but can be added in later. Removing the back cover for maintenance is deceptively hard. Even with the manual, you have to use a lot more force than you'll feel comfortable with to pry it open. However, it only uses phillips screws so you do not need special torx bits.
Usability of this laptop is what makes this most special. For me, it checkmarks basically all of the quality of life I wished all other laptops I've used had. Small things like a smooth rounded edge so that you can game on the keyboard without slicing your wrist after a while. Or having extra less used I/O ports in the back of the laptop so they don't get in the way. Or a dedicated button to turn off the webcam. Or most surprisingly, a keyboard and wrist pad that does not heat up to crazy temperatures when gaming. Or a dedicated power button that is out of the way, so you don't accidentally hit it when typing. And most importantly, actual useable function keys that you can either toggle on all the time or not. I cannot stress how happy I am that there is a touchpad toggle as a function key again, as windows just cannot seem to figure out how to detect a mouse. This laptop is a joy to use and after having to deal with the tragedies that other laptops make you put up with, you start to forget how good things can actually be.
It isn't all without its flaws though. The one biggest mistake are the speakers. They are one of these worst laptop speakers I have had the displeasure of listening to. Basically, all treble and no bass, with sound quality just above a hallmark birthday card. I am not joking when I say an iPad sounds better. So, unless it is an emergency, I would highly recommend a dedicated set of speakers or headphones.
Aside from the speakers, this laptop would be a solid 100/100. There are so many nice features, and any other laptop just can't compare. While not the highest spec laptop, it is good enough to play all your games.

Great little charger
on September 15, 2022
Posted by: Leonardo
This Insignia USB-C charger is a nice compact charger for your mobile devices and even some low powered laptops. Since this is a 35 watt charger, it is more than enough to support quick charging on an iphone 13 and even the ipad. Most mobile devices will quick charge at around 30 watts, so this 35 watt charger is a good sweet spot. Since this charger has two usb-c ports, it is able to charge two devices. However, expect the wattage to be halved for both ports once two devices are connected. Using the meter, on the iphone it was shown that half the amps were used when two devices were charging. So while it can support two devices, you would have to go for a higher wattage charger if you expect quick charge for more than one device. The design of the charger is simplistic and well thought out. The outlet prongs can fold up for carrying and small enough to fit in basically any pocket. There’s also a solid click when the prongs are expanded and stays solidly in place. If you're looking for something portable and works, then this is a great choice to go with.

Good little laptop
on June 23, 2022
Posted by: Leonardo
The latest addition to the Dell Inspiron line, it's a lightweight laptop that can double as a tablet. While not an ultralight, it offers upgradability and more utility I/O ports. It is not a flagship model, but for its budget range, it does a decent job for what it provides.
To start, the laptop for the most part is built solidly. At first glance, it has a nice metal body and the hinges for the screen are nice and stiff. There is very minimal flex on the screen and overall looks decent for 1200p. However, as you start to use it more and more, the imperfections slowly start to show. The keyboard flexes more than other laptops. The touchpad make a click sound even though it does not register any clicks. On the same subject, the touchpad is also too stiff. If you are someone who prefers click over tapping your touchpads, you'll find that it is very annoying how hard you have to click before it registers. The stiff hinges also make the screen shut pretty hard, even without trying. This may or may not be a problem in the future, only time can tell. You also cannot open with one hand the screen, you need both hands. The webcam has a manual cover, which is nice to see.
For usability, it scores better in this department. Although the keyboard flexes, you can still type decently fast on it. The caps give off solid clicks and they rebound at a good rate. The function keys though, could use some work. While this is preference, it is counterintuitive that they are not by default the F keys. They could have also made it toggleable instead of forcing to hold the FN key. I can say that if you are going to use this laptop for productivity, you will be annoyed by this. On the same topic, they could have put in better functions. It was pointless to include a screen select when on Windows it's already a hot key. Some useful could have been screen rotation lock, or touch pad disable, or really anything else. The I/O ports are nicely placed. I would have preferred another usb-a port on the left hand side, but there was probably limitations. For software, it has been the worse I have seen in a while. Get ready to spend some time uninstalling and unsubscribing to programs slowing down your laptop on startup. The touch screen is very responsive with minimal lag between strokes. It's also very solid and writing on it has no flex.

Overall, this laptop can fulfill the role of a budget lightweight laptop for travel or students. There are quirks that you will eventually get used to, and the performance is not bad either. Battery life is a little disappointing for a 12th gen cpu, but it is still manageable. It is also upgradeable if you need more storage or memory, and was one of the easiest laptop to service. I look forward to seeing how far this can go.

Good addition to the Mesh Wifi systems
on June 19, 2022
Posted by: Leonardo
This Deco mesh wifi network system is an addition that fills the gap between their lower tier entry level systems (X25) and their higher tier systems (X90). In many ways, it is an upgrade to the existing AX3000, if you are looking to get some higher bandwidth. For the most part, this mesh network has been reliable and there has been seamless connectivity between going from the basement to the second floor.
One of the best positives for using this Deco is how easy it is to setup and maintain. The app provides step by step instructions with ample fail safes if you skip a step or accidentally exit the app. Setting up your wifi network is extremely simple, and you can find almost all of the functions you would familiar with on other routers. You can also access the web interface too with the same login. Overall, it is a very easy system to manage and for those who like to set it and forget it without any hassle, this would be the one to get. Of course, this also has some downsides if you are looking for something that gives you more control. For instance, you only have your main wifi network and an optional guest network. You don't have the option to split your main network into a 2.4ghz and 5ghz band, which is very unfortunate. Sometimes the speed allocation is not optimal and the ability to manually set the network you want is preferred.
The hardware itself is pretty low profile and does not draw a lot of attention. The unit does get pretty hot to the touch, at least a lot more than the single router I was using before. In the web app, it shows the CPU usage at 90% most of the time, which would explain it. There is also LED on the bottom which you can control from the app. As for the network performance, I have to say I was kind of hoping for more. I am upgrading from an AC system, but I see no gains from the network speed at all. In some cases, I see it being lower and I suspect that it is using the lower speed network because it thinks that is better. Connectivity, though, is impressive. I get full signal from everywhere in the house, and there is not drop in signal when moving from floor to floor. Although it advertises a 7000sqft range, you basically need one node for each floor if you want the best connectivity.
To conclude, this is a great system if you're looking to improve your wifi experience and not have to deal with all the hassle that comes with setting up a router.

Decent Against the Competition
on December 11, 2021
Posted by: Leonardo
from CO
The BISSELL - SurfaceSense Pet Multi-Surface Vacuum is quite a decent vacuum. Right off the bat, it is easy to use and in some areas can outshine other vacuums I have used in the past from Dyson or Hoover. Even without the SurfaceSense technology, it is able to stand against others in its price range.
The SurfaceSense technology in my opinion not really necessary. It supposedly adjusts the roller speed depending on the surface you are cleaning, but how does that even help with cleaning performance? If it's performant on carpet, do I really need to change that speed when going to hardwood? As far as I'm concerned, this does not contribute a whole lot outside of adding buzz words. Once you get past that, what remains is the vacuum. Fortunately, this in itself is pretty good. On carpet, it does a decent job. It's not as good as the Dyson, but for half the price it is definitely worth it. It is easy to push around, and the LED lights illuminate the floor usefully. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to detach the hose and instantly clean with it. Usually you'll have to detach the handle and awkwardly drag the vacuum around, but here it is optional. You can choose to remove the handle for that extra range, or just the hose by itself. You don't even need to unravel the power cord to detach the hose. It's easy to dump the dust, and the filter is easily accessible. They give you an extra filter, but that is the only extra accessory you'll get.
Overall, this is a great vacuum even without the SurfaceSense technology. I would recommend this product to those looking for buy their first decent vacuum.

The Dell XPS 17 laptop delivers powerful performance in an incredibly thin form factor. The stunning 4-sided InfinityEdge UHD+ display enables an amazing screen to body ratio (93.7%) and a 17-inch screen in a 15-inch size form factor. In fact, it’s smaller than 48% of 15-inch laptops. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics feature unique dual opposite outlet fans, that increase fan airflow by approximately 30% and drive cooling airflow in both directions, resulting in more airflow overall and improved skin temperatures. A 100% Adobe RGB display enables you to edit your videos with confidence in their color. 100% of the enclosure is sculpted by a CNC (computer numerical control) machining process. A high precision, machine-milled aluminum chassis creates an elegant design with high build quality that’s stronger and stiffer than magnesium or plastic. A premium 17" touch laptop with a thin and light design.

Good with exceptions
on September 21, 2021
Posted by: Leonardo
from CO
This is the newly updated 17" version of the XPS lineup, and the 11th generation Intel processors paired with nVidia's 3060 GPU gives it a respectable boost in performance. With an impressive 4k touch screen at 16:10 ratio screen, it gives you the 17" screen experience in a 15.6" laptop package. On paper, this laptop is quite spectacular and even more so in person.
FORM:
The laptop itself is built really solidly. While no aluminum feel on the palm rest, the rest of the chassis is metal and little to no flex around the laptop at all. None in the keyboard, and very little on the lid when closed. This is quite impressive as it is a slim laptop design and very few have been able to achieve that. Speakers located on the sides of the keyboard gives you a little more fidelity than the ones that are usually above. Overall, there are no complaints about the form of the laptop.
PERFORMANCE:
For the most part, the laptop's hardware performs as expected. Userbenchmark shows all hardware landing at or above average. The given hardware is needed to handle all the extra pixels in the 4k screen. So far, every day usage has showed no slowness or lagginess when moving things around the screen. The laptop is extremely responsive and has one of the highest single core performance available. The multicore performance is also respectable, comparable to the 4800H from AMD. Overall, a lot of horsepower to get you through your tasks.
FUNCTIONALITY:
This part of the review can be subjective, as a lot of it is opinion based. To be frank, the usability of this laptop does not match up to its specs. It just feels like corners were cut when designing it and that is not what is expected from such an expensive laptop. For starters, the thermals are all over the place. Many times, it will hit it's cap at 100 degrees celsius doing basic tasks and running programs, and the cpu will throttle down. If you want to use this as a gaming laptop, your games may start lagging partway in as the high temperatures force the gpu and cpu to throttle. I was unable to keep constant framerates without using a dedicated laptop cooler. The touchpad is also huge, which seems great at first, but you will soon find it quite annoying as your palms will continuously rest over it while typing. On the topic of typing, the keyboard is very lacking. It is not fun to type on as the keys don't have enough bounciness and feels a little sloppy resulting in more typos. Once you get used to it, you'll start to realize that there is a lack of useful function keys. This may be a 15.6" form factor, but they could have done with putting media keys separately above or something. There's no next/previous, and there's even a key that has no extra function. At the very least, the F9 key could have been a touchpad disable/enable function. If this laptop was meant to be productive, it should have gave the users a more functional keyboard layout. Also, no light or even an image on the power button? There's definitely some questionably design choices and it affects day-to-day usability quite a bit. For reference, I've been using this laptop to program remotely. One last hindrance is that this laptop has NO USB-A ports. Another questionable design as even plugging in your mouse or a USB drive will be a hassle. The do provide you a dongle that has just one USB and HDMI port, but it attaches flimsily and not something you'd use rigorously.
CONCLUSION:
So you've landed on the laptop and want to see if it's a good fit for you. It does have an impressive screen, one of the best I have used thus far. Very sharp and bright images, which will be extremely useful for the creative user. Price to performance, this laptop falls short. This is NOT a gaming laptop and just passable as a programming laptop. However, for the creative crowd who are into video editing or graphics on the go, this may be a very viable choice. It has the power and tools necessary to give you the edge in creating your best product.

Air Purifier done right
on August 21, 2021
Posted by: Leonardo
from CO
The Levoit 400S is a great air purifier that delivers everything it advertises. It has one of the most user friendly smart apps I have ever used, and you don't even need to rely on it. All the controls are available on the device itself and the icons are mostly self explanatory. First impressions are good and this may be one of the best purifiers I have used thus far.
To begin, the setup is basically non existent. It is plug and play, and for those that are complete lazy, you can just press the auto mode and the purifier will do it's thing. The included onboard air sensor is pretty accurate, the readings it provided were within a percent or two compared to my dedicated air quality reader. A lot of other purifiers will offer auto mode, but you can never really tell what it's doing. However, here you can fully customize how auto mode works with the smart app, and set when the fan will kick in at certain particle levels. That is an amazing feature to have for an air purifier, and it's a level of fidelity that should be the standard. As mentioned before, the controls on the unit are basic, but the app expands it so much further. You're able to connect to it and check the air quality if that's all you want to do. You can even set it to auto turn on when the air quality hits a certain threshold. Honestly, that is an amazing convenience that is you wish you had. Let your air purifier cycle the air for you instead of you having to worry about turning it on/off all the time.
I cannot say enough good things about how convenient this air purifier has been for me. This is a great example of a smart product done right. It gives you the easy of one touch operation, while also allowing you to customize it to your exact needs. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is looking.

Exceeded Expectations

This is the first ice cream maker I have used and I was quite skeptical at the products it was able to produce. After trying several of their suggested ingredients from basic ice cream to their smoothie bowl, I am very impress at how well everything blended together and created a creamy consistent texture.
One of my main concerns with kitchen appliances is how easy they are to use and maintain. The Ninja CREAMi could not be any simpler. Creating ice cream or sorbet is as easy as mixing in the ingredients in the provided containers, freezing them overnight, and then selecting the correct program in the machine the next day. Cleanup is also very quick and easy, with the only components to clean being the paddle and the container lid that houses the paddle. As mentioned before, the final product is just fantastic. The ingredients you froze are mixed thoroughly and there are no chunks at the end, just smooth creamy goodness like you would expect from buying at the grocery store.
I am excited at the prospects of trying all kinds of different flavors and fruits to see what I am able to create. The hardest part now is finishing off what I've created so that I can try out new recipes. I would highly recommend this ice cream maker to anyone interested.

Excellent System, Ease of Mind
on April 19, 2021
Posted by: Leonardo
from CO
Security camera systems are something everyone should have. Whether it is to protect you or your neighbors, it becomes invaluable when needed and can even deter potential criminals. When looking for wired systems, this Enforcer Security System by Swann makes an excellent choice.
Hardware:
The cameras themselves are quite excellent. 4k video offers incredible image quality compared to the 1080p ones I had before. The included lights are also decently bright, allowing you to record in color at night when turned on. Installation is easy, and typical for a wired system. Once it is hooked up to the DVR, the camera is immediately ready to start recording. Looking at the internals, the included hard drive is a 2TB Seagate SkyHawk, which is a surveillance rated hard drive. The connections are glued, so not sure why that was a decision to be made, but it does make changing the hard drive a little more difficult if needed. No fan, so the entire system is silent and does not get that hot at all.
Software:
One of the best selling points for me in a security system is how robust its software is. For starters, their app is rated 4.5 stars in the apple store, and that alone speaks volumes. It's easy to use and link to your DVR, and there are absolutely no fees tied to it. You can access your cameras, along with your recordings with ease through your smart devices, and the connection is quite fast as well. You have the option to link your dropbox account and save recordings to the cloud if desired. However, I do wish the option to save to a local network drive was available. Even if you don't want to use the system through the app, the built-in software is also quite decent. The layout is obvious and adjusting your settings does not require an additional manual. You can individually customize how you want each camera to behave without much trouble. Most importantly, viewing your past recordings in their video player is not a terrible experience.
To conclude, this is an excellent system for anyone looking to get their feet wet with a wired surveillance system. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for a decent and reliable product to protect their home.

This Insignia™ NS-BK1TSS6 kegerator/beverage cooler holds either a 1/2 keg or a 1/4 slim keg and features an adjustable thermostat, so you can easily keep your favorite drinks cold. Two wire shelves help you maintain organization.

Is it true Miller Lite kegs do not fit into this Kegerator?

All that matters is what size the keg is. Shouldn't matter if it is Coors, Pabst, Miller, etc. This kegerator fits up to a 1/2 barrel keg (15.5gal).

If you get a 1/2 barrel keg and fill it with Miller Lite, it will fit into the Kegerator, but the Kegerator will disapprove of your beer choice, as will anybody with any self-respect.

How do I include my cable receiver in my wireless network?

What type of router do I need to create a wireless connection between my wireless router and my DVR receiver?
Any router, really. If your receiver has the capability to connect to the internet, then you should be able to connect to your home network.

What do I need?

Hi- I just want to get a wireless router for my home that will allow me to connect with a Droid, iPhone, and laptop for internet and email downloads. I also need LAN cord output to connect directly to my DVD player for Netflix. I use Comcast. I have NO idea what specs or type of modem I need. Can someone help?
You should be able to find the list of compatible Comcast modems on their website. For the most part, an entry level modem such as the ARRIS SURFboard SB6121 should do the trick. This modem supports up to 174Mbps download, which is more than what most people have anyways. You can usually find these cheap-ish when on sale, since it's very popular.

Easily recharge your smartphone with this PNY PowerPack T5200 rechargeable battery that features a USB output for reliable connection to a variety of devices. The added 16GB microSDHC card lets you store your favorite media.

How do you charge the powerpack? Do you plug it into your computer?

Yes, you can plug it into a computer's USB or into a much faster USB wall adapter. Computer USB's output at a max of 0.9A which means it could take a while to fully charge it. Your standard wall USB adapter for your mobile devices will likely work much better. Anything with a 1.0A to 2.1A range should charge this battery pack relatively quickly.
