Manual Settings allow this Camera to Shine
on August 24, 2021

First thing to know about this camera, is that it’s not an “all in one” webcam suitable for everyone. The focus here is on image quality and image configurability, primarily for content creators or streamers. You can definitely use this for your Zoom or Microsoft Teams calls also, but Elgato is targeting a more specific audience with this Facecam, similar to most of their other products. Main feature missing from this camera in that regard is an onboard microphone. Any audio will need to come form a different dedicated source, a mic or headset etc. Elgato is focusing on the image here, not the sound. And for most content creators, audio is not coming from the camera anyway, so the audience for this camera shouldn’t miss that feature. However if you were planning to pick this up to use in Zoom or Teams etc., be prepared to have your own audio source.
With that said, the video quality is very good. It might take a bit to get there, but once you have it dialed in, the video image is awesome. Right out of the box you can plug and play with any Windows or Mac PC that offers a USB 3.0 connection. You cannot use this camera without USB 3.0. That’s because the video output from the camera is uncompressed, meaning much larger video data passing from the camera to your PC. But that uncompressed video feed allows you so much flexibility in being able to dial in your settings and image quality in whatever video capture or post processing software you’re using, since the latency is super low and the video does not need to be re-encoded. Once plugged in you can use straight away with the camera on full auto for exposure, white balance, etc., or you can download the Elgato Camera Hub app and fine tune your camera picture.
I found that I needed to adjust some things in the Camera Hub app before I was 100% satisfied with the video quality. To start with, the camera seemed to over expose my setting. I tried being lit with natural light from the front, the side, tried in a darker room or lit with ring lights. In every case, leaving the exposure on full auto never worked to my liking, I always looked too washed out when brightly lit, or too noisy with low light. The Camera Hub allows you to fine tune your image quality to match your setting perfectly, which I think is where this camera shines. I’m not sure any other comparable webcam out there right now allows this much configurability. You can edit the FOV, from a pretty decent 82 degrees, to more tight zoomed in ranges to put focus on you. You can adjust the contrast and saturation of the image, as well as sharpness levels. Be warned though, that setting the sharpness above 2 (range is 1-4) you begin to get really harsh edges and more noise. Where I found the most time spent, was in the Settings for Exposure and White Balance. It just would not expose my settings well, using the latest firmware, so the app allows you to dial in your own exposure to match your scene. You can adjust the shutter speed, ISO and exposure meter, and even allow for EV compensation +/-. So no matter what type of lighting you have, you can always adjust. White balance tended to automatically make my shot really warm and gave me more reddish skin tone. But you can set you own temperature, and for cool tones that I like, I found 3900K worked the best. You do also have the option to turn on Noise Reduction to remove any noise or grain from your shot, but I found this was overly aggressive and tended to make the image blurry, so I always left noise reduction turned off, and adjusted other settings until I was happy.
The camera has a Sony STARVIS sensor, which is used in things like security cameras and car dashcams, when image quality, especially in low light is needed. And comparing the Facecam to other 1080p webcams, its immediately apparent that the picture quality here is top notch. And the star of the show is the full 60fps. This allows the image to look most natural, no ghosting or blurred movements. Your capture will look buttery smooth. The focus is also fixed, not auto. That is huge to me, in that any movement in your frame will not cause the camera to hunt and search for a new focus point, sometimes making your image blurry for a few seconds. Fixed focus means that everything remains in focus all the time.
The build quality is very good, very sturdy, but it’s not minimalist, you notice it. The huge all glass optics and Sony sensor are coupled with onboard flash storage and a dedicated image processor wrapped in its own custom heat sink. The flash storage is a great feature, because you can Save your most used settings in the Camera Hub app, and they write directly to the camera. So if you swap your camera to another PC, your settings are preserved. In my use, I found this worked most of the time. Some times the settings would appear unchanged and right where I saved them, other times some settings would be set back to default, like FOV or picture settings like contrast and saturation. I haven’t found out if that is a PC side issue somehow or camera side. But nice to know you have the ability to swap machines and keep your settings dialed in, when it works. You can set the camera on your monitor or it also has a tripod mount on the bottom for easy placement.
Once you get the settings dialed in, this camera shines. I did feel though, that I needed to spend a little too much time in the settings to get the picture to my liking. The auto settings were just not good at all, even when I was in a lit setting with full natural light. I found that even when dialed in manually, I had to set the EV compensation to a -1 to -2. But overall, the video quality is some of the best I’ve seen in this webcam space.

Rivals its Big Brothers

First impressions of this new Vertex Pro vacuum are amazing. When they say it’s power is comparable to a full size vacuum, they mean it.
Assembly was super simple. Out of the box it comes ready to go with just a simply click or two. When fully assembled it has what they call “MultiFlex” technology, which basically means you can orient the vacuum into different positions for cleaning or storage. You can flex the vacuum in the middle to fold down into a super small footprint for storage, or you can flex it the opposite direction while cleaning to get underneath furniture and other hard to reach areas. It can feel awkward at times, but the overall weight of the vacuum is nice and light, so it never gets unwieldy to handle. I love the fold down storage option, rather than having to mount it to a wall. And the battery is removable so you can the flexibility to charge it up when and wherever you want.
It has a nice, super bright LED display on the handle that gives you information for battery level %, power mode and floor type. You can select hard floors or carpet, and switch between a Low (ECO) Med and High power mode. They claim the battery will last 60 mins on one charge, but that is for Low mode on hard floor only. Still, that is a great run time compared to other cordless vacuums in this same space, but when using higher power modes and when using it on carpet, you won’t get anywhere near 60 mins. But in our use, we’ve got at least 20-30 mins out of a charge. That can also vary depending on the mix of use and how often you on/off the power while cleaning, etc.
I can say, that on carpet and using high power mode – this thing does indeed rival a full size vacuum. We have other Shark DuoClean full size vacuums in the house, since we have dogs that shed pet hair with every step they take, and this Vertex Pro is up to the task of cleaning up that hair just as well as the big brother vacuums. You definitely don’t want to use this for cleaning large rooms of carpet, but for quick spot cleans or maybe small carpet rooms, this will easily deliver. The two front facing LED lights show you exactly what is in the path of the vacuum, and works great on hard wood floors so you don’t miss any spots of debris. And the power fins and self-cleaning brush roll are so far living up to their name, in that this thing will pick up everything, and nothing gets stuck or tangled on the rolls. Because of its light weight, it can be easy to flop the vacuum head around some, but it does pivot into any direction making passes super easy, and cleaning hard to reach areas and turning corners, etc. super easy. To empty the dust cup you just push one button to release from the handle, and another to release the bottom door into the trash, never having to touch any debris.
It also works great as a hand vac. With the three power modes, its great to remove the long handle and just use it for stairs, cleaning the car, blinds or furniture etc. It comes with a crevice tool, a pet tool, and this great dusting brush for softer or delicate surfaces, which I thought was great, I’ve never seen that before. Great for cleaning up a messy table or desk.
All in all, this little thing is a beast. Being able to effortlessly move between hard floor and carpet with a button push is wonderful, and might obviate other stick vacs we have in the house currently.

Fast, Solid Expansion for Series X/S
on July 25, 2021
Posted by: HarvickFan
from Indianapolis, IN
Right out of the box, the drive is ready to use. I'm connecting to a Xbox Series X console, and once plugged in using the included USB cable, the Xbox recognized the drive and asks if you want to use it for game data, or media data (like pictures, songs, etc.) I'm using mine for game data, so after one click of the button, the drive was ready to use.
The drive has a very minimal footprint, super small compared to standard non-NVME external drives of the same storage capacity. The speed of the drive is outstanding, I was able to move/copy/save game data of multiple GBs from my internal drive to the WD drive and back again at blazing fast transfer speeds.
One thing you need to understand, is that you cannot play Series X games directly from this drive. The Series X will only "Play" games from its internal drive or from the official Xbox expansion drives that use the same architecture. A drive like this is perfect for storing your apps or older games. You can also play your older games directly from this drive, and in some cases I find the performance is actually better. I was playing Mortal Kombat XL and NASCAR Heat 5 directly from this drive, and I found the load up and wait times were shorter compared to playing directly from the internal drive. I also found that running apps directly from this drive seem to do the same, shorter load times, so bonus!!!

Unbelievably light, unbelievably accurate
on May 23, 2021
Posted by: HarvickFan
from Indianapolis, IN
When it comes to productivity, wireless mice are commonplace. When it comes to gaming, wired has always been the way to go. Using the new ROCCAT Kone Air PRO the last week, I can say that line is now blurred for me. I’ve used this mouse for both work and gaming, and it never left me wanting to change it for something else.
The first thing you notice is how light it is. Yes, it’s that light! It’s almost funny, how light it is, it takes a second to comprehend. The heat treated glass slides on the bottom allow the mouse to glide effortlessly across your desk, the travel is some of the smoothest I’ve ever felt on a mouse. The design can be seen as boring, especially when compared to other high end gaming mice, but I think that’s what sets this one apart the most. It doesn’t seem to care about looks, and when you use it, you soon appreciate that. Other mice go crazy with the ergonomics and button placements and how many curves and angles they can mold in, this one goes the opposite way. I’m usually a palm heavy mouse user, and some mice require you to learn how to hold them to be effective. Not this one. The plain, understated design according to ROCCAT is based on years of feedback. It just feels, natural.
You can connect wirelessly using Bluetooth or the supplied 2.4Ghz dongle, and wired by way of the included charging USB-C cable. Shout out to the cable as well, it’s so soft its like a shoe string. Now normally I would connect using the 2.4 dongle, and I did so I could A/B test it against the Bluetooth, and I’m not going to lie, the Bluetooth feels snappier to me. 2.4 usually has less latency, and is the more desired connection when going wireless, especially for gaming. But in my use, the Bluetooth is just awesome. Super responsive, super snappy.
The real star of the show here, are the mechanical switch buttons. The clicks on this mouse are so satisfying. The left and right buttons do have some travel, but when they click, its accurate and the feedback is great. It feels like using a nice mechanical keyboard. And the click wheel is one of the best I’ve ever used. The accuracy and feedback it gives is just amazing. Battery life has been a non issue for my use. They state something like 100 hours per charge, and all I can say is that I charged it once, and that’s it. After all my use, the battery level is still hovering around 90%. And even when you get down to needing a charge, just plug in the cable and charge up while continuing to use the mouse.
The software from ROCCAT is ok, nothing great, but serviceable. You can download new firmware, which mine needed right away. You can configure the RGB lighting style, which is nice but nothing special, just two LEDS, one under each button, that really just flicker/fade or stay solid. You’re not getting this mouse for its RGB capability, I’ll say that. You can dial in the sensitivity and save across 5 different onboard profiles, so depending on what you’re doing or what game you’re playing, you can instantly get to the profile that meets the need. The profile is on the bottom, so while not ideal, not a huge problem. You can also store the 2.4Ghz dongle in the bottom of the mouse, which is super useful. I do wish they included a DPI switcher on the mouse itself, for those times you want to dial up or down in real time, instead of having to change profiles, but that’s about the only negative I have.
Overall, this mouse surprised me with how light and “boring” its design were, that in practice, for both productivity and gaming, really shine and will have you wanting to keep this as your primary mouse for everything!

Great Option for Non Cloud Based Recording
on May 17, 2021
Posted by: HarvickFan
from Indianapolis, IN
Anker/Eufy products are always rock solid performers, and this latest outdoor camera is no exception. It’s super easy to setup using the Eufy app; super easy to install using the include base plate which only requires a single screw along with a super strong magnet, and it’s super easy to use.
You get 2K streaming and event based recording resolution – more on this in a minute. Quality is great, colors are pretty accurate, white balance can be hit or miss but overall very good. This camera does not connect to their traditional Eufy camera home base, as do most of their other cameras. This camera comes with it’s own on device storage in the form of a 32GB microSD card that comes in the box, but it’s expandable to 128GB. Once it’s powered on and connected to your Wi-Fi network, you are able to stream live video, or watch recorded events or scrub the timeline video. The built in spotlight is also very nice, in that it will engage when it senses motion, in order to record all the details in color, and it can also be manually triggered in the app, in the event you want to light up the scene yourself. It does a good job, but because of its size, it can only illuminate so much, and its not a replacement for having good outdoor lighting or a dedicated spotlight. The two way audio was nice and clear, and the new, more advanced on device AI seemed to do a great job of distinguishing people from pets from other activity, which results in less false alarms or unwanted notifications.
If you’ve used Eufy products in the past, you know how easy it is to setup and manage through the Eufy Security app. Just power up the camera, scan the QR code on the bottom and its immediately added to your suite of products. If you never used a Eufy home product before, not to worry because they make everything so simple to use and manage. The app allows you to configure all the necessary settings for resolution, recording parameters, notifications and type, create activity zones to trigger event based recordings, update firmware, you name it.
With all the good, came a little bit of bad for me, so that I needed to remove a star. The first, is that you cannot record in 2K resolution if you set the camera to 24/7 recording. 2K resolution is only an option if you use the event based recording. If you set the camera to 2K, it will automatically downgrade the recording to 1080p for 24/7 recording. Now this is a big miss for me. I have other Eufy cameras that record in 2K and the quality I knew would be great. So the biggest draw for me, to this camera, was the 2K resolution and 24/7 recording capability. They state the use of 1080p for recorded video is to save space, but if I want to install a larger microSD card, like I did, I should have the option to record in 2K and accept any limited amount of recording duration that is necessary. I really wish I was able to select the resolution that I would like recorded, either for clarity or for length of time, etc. Hopefully this is something they can change in a future firmware update. I would love to record 2K video 24/7. The other miss for me, was the length of the cable. You only get 20’. While that sounds like a lot, it’s not, especially when trying to mount outdoors and hide the cable in a nice, clean way. Indoors, 20’ should be more than enough to find a great spot, but outside, when you’re limited with the number of outlets available, and if you want to run the cable so its not exposed, you need much more. And since it’s just USB cable, I don’t see why they couldn’t have supplied the 20’ cord like they do, and also maybe an additional 20’ extension cable for those that needed it. So simple, but it goes a long way in terms of the ease of use.
Overall, this is a great new camera from Eufy. Solid performer as expected, with just a couple slight drawbacks that keep it from being a home run.

Big, Bad and Super Fast - Amazing Printer!
on April 25, 2021
Posted by: HarvickFan
from Indianapolis, IN
Very fast and very accurate, it handles just about everything we throw at it. Whether printing when directly connected, over my home network or even from a mobile device, the printer has been amazing.
Setup was super easy, just unbox and plug in, connect to your network with either LAN or WiFi and you’re good to go. I love the squared off, monolithic design. And this machine is big, so make sure you have enough space, especially height if you’re placing on a desk with a shelf above. You’ll need plenty of room to raise the scanner lid. I love the paper capacity of 500 sheets, just put a full ream of paper inside and forget about needing to refill paper for a long time.
We also subscribed to HP+ Instant Ink. What a great feature to make sure you never run out of ink. You get 6 months free, and then you can tailor the program to your printing needs, based on the number of pages you print a month and what type of printing you normally do. And you can always change the program at any time, if you find out your using too much or not enough under the current plan. And if you need to one off a set of ink, you can do that too. Set up was super easy through the HP Smart app. Just connect the app to your device and run through the subscription process. We’ve not needed a refill of ink yet, but I’ve already been sent an update from HP that my first refill package will be arriving soon. So nice to know that I never have to worry about what my ink levels are before I start a large printing job. When needed, HP will make sure we have ink on hand, all the time.
Pros:
• Super large capacity – 500 sheets in only two trays
• Fast – insanely fast B/W printing even at high quality, and color printing is also super fast with pretty good color accuracy
• Network connection was super simple and reconnects automatically if the network goes down, easy to print from any device throughout the house, or even on mobile
• Touch screen display and menu options are wonderful, super bright and colorful and touch sensitivity is great, easy to use
• Scanner is super accurate and super fast, whether using the flatbed or the document feeder
• Ability to connect local network storage or connect a cloud service like Dropbox to store your print copies to the cloud
Cons:
• Color printing is pretty accurate, but I do wish colors were a little more vibrant
• Not good as a photo printer, but that’s also not its use case really. If you want to print dedicated photos, stick with a dedicated photo printer. Image prints are fine for school or business use, but not keepsake quality
• Large, make sure you have enough space for it to operate normally
• Paper catch tray does not engage automatically, its manual open only
• I would have liked it to be quieter, it is fairly quiet when printing, but I was hoping for even quieter
Overall, for home or small business, this printer fits the bill for sure. We love it already and are looking to get years of use out of it, never once worrying about ink!!!

Decent System, Nice 4K Picture
on April 19, 2021
Posted by: HarvickFan
from Indianapolis, IN
I’ll start off by saying this system is very good, if you have the patience to set it up and set it up right. This system is not something that you unbox and in 15 mins you have 4K recordings coming in. Knowing that it’s a wired system means knowing where you want to place the cameras, where you are going to place the NVR, the length between them (in case you need extra cables) and having adequate access to place and hook up the system as intended.

Everything arrives superbly packaged, and easy to unbox and layout. The first thing to do is hook up the NVR to a monitor and your network connection. This requires a LAN connection to the NVR, it does not come with a wifi adapter so wireless setup is not an option. You can buy a wifi adapter from SWANN for a decent price, in case you will not have access to a wired LAN to your network. Install any firmware and system updates needed, mine needed one. You can also download the Swann Security app for limited access to features on your phone or tablet. Just know, the mobile app cannot do everything, maybe not even half. The mobile app is more for status, live view, viewing clips etc. The real setup and admin of the system is done through menu on the NVR. When you are ready to start placing cameras, you’ll also want to pay attention to the power supply that drives them. Since these are not PoE cameras, you’ll need to hook them up to an additional power supply in addition to the NVR. The cable for the camera power supply is very short, shorter than I expected. So I found the most planning is where I wanted to put the NVR and the camera power supply, then run all the cameras from that destination, and making sure I had plenty of cable to run all the power and the camera feeds.

Setup:

The cameras are a decent size and a little lighter than I expected. They are just plastic and hopefully should hold up well outside over time. They mount in to place with 3 screws in the base, so I know they won’t be coming off by accident. They do allow for multi positioning, but this was another super frustrating aspect of this system. To position the camera up or down, left or right, to a side angle, etc. you have to remove between 1-3 screws, tiny screws at that. So imagine being under a soffit on a ladder, trying to rotate the camera a view degrees to one side, and the screw falls away. Good luck. They are also very soft, so the slightest bit of extra pressure can start to warp them. Not good when you have to tighten and untighten them to get the perfect viewing angle once installed. And I found I had to pre-angle the camera the way I think it needed to be before I fully mounted the camera base because once they were fully mounted, getting to all three screws can be a challenge. They need to look into a different tightening mechanism for future models, that don’t require separate screws just to adjust viewing angles.

After you create an admin account, logging in allows you to set all the various configurations for the overall system. From how you want to display the cameras, how to want to set them up to record and on what type of schedule, to analytics to seeing system status and information across all cameras and the NVR. I will say, Swann does give you a mouse inside the box to utilize the onboard menu, but do yourself a favor and find a full size mouse stuffed in a drawer somewhere. The included mouse is so small that anything larger than infant hands will have trouble. Also, the most frustrating part of the admin features is the fact that I have to unlock the menu with my admin account every time I want to do something, regardless of whether I just changed something 1 minute ago. I mean every time? They really need to update this so that you can set it to keep you logged in for some defined amount of session time. Super frustrating to change and apply a setting, go test it, then come back a min or two later and have to unlock everything again, and again.

The main parts of the system setup are the Display and Record pages. Here is where you can set up how the system will display on your monitor, in what type of layout you the viewer wants. You can have an equal 4 box layout, or if you have a camera that you want to pay more attention than the others, you can highlight one, etc. And since this is an 8 channel NVR, if you add more cameras in the future, you have that flexibility, and see all the cameras on screen at once. You can name the cameras from their various positions around your house or business, or just leave then default named to Channel 1-8. You can set privacy zones, so if you don’t want a certain portion of the viewing area to be seen, you can block it out, which I thought was very cool. From the layout screen you can click on any individual camera and get a sub menu directly, that allows you to manually capture something, turn the onboard lights on/off, set the color settings for that camera, etc. You can even view instant playback recording from that specific camera, instead of looking through the entire timeline of all the cameras. The Recording page is where you configure what resolution you want the cameras to record in. Since this is a 4K system, naturally you’ll want to use the 4K setting, but something important to keep in mind is that this is not a high framerate set of cameras. On 4K, you can only record at 8fps. So while the picture looks very good in 4K, motion will get blurry depending on the speed of the objects in frame. You can dial down the resolution from 1440p, 1080p, all the way down to 480p and get 30fps, but why get a 4K system just to dial down to 480/720p for 30fps. Just something to keep in mind. Even at 1080p you can only capture 15fps. You can however adapt the bitrate to capture as much data as possible and provider the most detailed picture, which at 4K is capped at 8192Kbps. You can also set the system to record on set schedules over a 24hr calendar, and you can set to both motion or default all time. Out of the box its only set to motion, not sure why. So if you want to capture everything, you’ll need to go in and set that manually. You can set some cameras to no record at all, maybe you want to use them only as Live view cameras, you can do that. You can also set the details for mainstream and substream recordings, if you want to dial in different resolutions, frame rate and bitrates of each camera.

Display:

When set to 4K resolution, the picture is very nice for a security camera. Like I said earlier, frame rate is only 8fps, so motion gets choppy/blurry, but overall the picture is nice. I did find that I needed to adjust different settings on different cameras, depending on where they were placed. Things like color temp, saturation and brightness. But once you find the sweet spot, the picture really delivers. I did find the white balance is not that great, and sometimes even in what I consider a bright lit frame, the picture was too dark, and needed brightening. The night vision is also very very nice, almost too nice I think, because there were times when the camera thought it should kick over to night vision when it really didn’t need to, giving this weird half color half night vision picture, that I’d need to reset the camera and then it would revert back to daytime mode. Really strange. Not too often, but enough times to mention. But when you need night vision, it really delivers. I love having the ability to configure my camera layout on my monitor, and having that feature on the app too is great, although you can’t configure the layout per se, you just get the feed of all connected cameras, up to the number of channels you have. Both the NVR and app are great for live viewing, which is what I’ve used the most, and using the NVR for timeline viewing is pretty easy. Just open the Playback window and you can view the entire timeline of all your cameras and see the events that it record, both by default or by motion. You can also set the system up to send you notifications when events are triggered, by email or text. Streaming live view was always nice and super fast. Video quality was great and I never had any buffering or hiccups while streaming video to my monitor off the NVR or on my phone using the app.

Overall:

It’s a very nice system. The 4K picture is nice, I just wish it had a high fps to capture better motion. The alarms and flashing lights, which give this system the “Enforcer” name, are a cool add on and work very well. The lights are bright and the alarm is loud. I did not set up my system to use the alarm on a regular basis, but if you do need it, its awesome.

This Laptop Screams!

This laptop screams performance and is a joy to use. For a gaming laptop, it’s still very thin and lightweight, and you can feel the aluminum construction right away, it feels very rigid and solidly built. I like the white color, a departure from the gray/black colors of most laptops these days. There is ventilation all over this thing, as you would expect. When you open the lid, it actually props the base of the computer up in the air at a slight angle to allow airflow to travel under the computer, to aid in the cooling. At max performance, it does run warm/hot, and the fans do kick on and make some very audible noise, but that is to be expected running an AMD Ryzen 9 and RTX 3060. The onboard speakers are amazing and can help drown out the fans, and if you are wearing headphones, the fan noise is a non issue. The keyboard is solid, very sturdy chiclet style keys are actually larger than you’d expect, and the travel is firm but not stiff, so typing feels great. The power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, so you can set your security profile to biometric and easily be signed in as you power on. The display is wonderful to look at. Colors are very accurate and contrast is great. The 144Hz refresh rate is buttery smooth and looks amazing. The screen is only 1080p FHD, but at this screen size, you don’t need much more than that, I’ll take the refresh rate over pixels any day at this size range. I do wish the screen was a bit brighter at max nits, but overall it will do fine in most lighting conditions. Like I said earlier, the speakers are incredible and give you a nice warm and somewhat loud profile, and bass is even surprisingly good. They support Dolby Atmos so in the event you need to use this onboard sound instead of headphones, it has you covered. The one drawback to the overall design is the lack of a webcam. I know this is aimed at gaming, but adding a webcam would have made it a perfect one stop piece of hardware for gaming and non gaming use when you need a webcam, like virtual school or work meetings. It does have plenty of I/O for a laptop of this size, two full size USB-A ports and two USB-C ports. It also has a full size HDMI out port which is great, and a headphone/mic jack as well. Having an onboard ethernet jack would have been nice, but it should have enough flexibility to connect everything you need.

Where this machine really shines is the guts that power this thing to be a gaming monster in a small package:
AMD Ryzen 9 CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads, with 4MB of L2 cache. It base clocks at 3Ghz and can boost to 4.6Ghz.
NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB of GDDR6 dedicated RAM.
1TB PCI-e SSD, means everything loads so much faster than a traditional HDD.
802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 for blazing fast internet connection speeds if you have Wi-Fi 6 capable router in your home.

I tested this machine in two basic configurations – as a fully functioning laptop, using the keyboard and monitor, and more importantly for me, as a stand alone PC, driving an external monitor and external keyboard and mouse and headphone. It shines doing both. Using a 27” external monitor set to 165Hz at FHD, this laptop had no problem. The games we played looked better than ever (Fortnite, Valorant, COD and Rocket League.) We were consistently seeing frame rates well into the 200+ where applicable, and on Fortnite’s new performance mode, we pushed past 300+. I will say that was with the laptop lid closed and plugged in to the power supply. When we did open the lid to use a two monitor setup, I found I did have to drop the frame rate of the laptop monitor to 60Hz to keep full fluid and smooth gameplay on the external one. If I ran both monitors at their top frame rates, I tended to see some slight lag/hiccup. Having the ability to drop the onboard monitor to 60Hz and run a second window for things like Discord or IM or Email, non graphic intensive apps, while keeping the external monitor driven at top performance is such a great capability to have. It does run hot though, when set to maximum performance mode. I suggest using an elevated laptop stand, to allow plenty of fresh air to flow underneath the laptop.

Setup was super easy and fast, using Windows 10 and the SSD. Load times were minimal and even the expected software and firmware updates that it needed to make were super quick and painless with an SSD and Wi-Fi 6, since I do utilize Wi-Fi 6 in my home with a 1Gbps up/down fiber connection using a Netgear Orbi AX6000 mesh system. Asus also preloads software directly aimed at keeping your machine up to date with the latest and greatest software and firmware updates, and NVIDIA software to allow you to customize your RTX performance and updates as needed. Getting this laptop up and running was the most painless I’ve done in a while, and keeping it updated over its life is going to painless as well, thanks to the onboard tools Asus provides.

Such a Feature Packed Smart Lock
on February 26, 2021

The TL;DR opinion of this lock – it’s amazing. From build quality, ease of use and features, you cannot go wrong here and I highly recommend it!

Opening the box you notice right away the quality of the lock, as well as the care that went in to the packaging. Everything sits nicely in custom dense foam padding. The lock and indoor mechanism are heavy and built solidly. All the pieces/boxes contained inside are labeled with their step in the process, which is awesome when laying out the pieces in order when installing.

Installing the lock took under 10 mins. You simply remove your existing deadbolt and follow the smart lock installation steps in order, and they are so simple that there is no worry that you need to be technically proficient or handy around the house. As long as you have a Philips head screwdriver, you can get this installed right, the first time. The instructions are clear to follow and outline everything in detail. When you download the Eufy Security app, which you’ll need to setup the lock when finished, you can even watch step by step instructions with nice full size images. The lock comes pre-built out of the box to support different latch and crossbore dimensions, so that depending on whether your latch is backset, or your crossbore has smaller radius, etc. the lock will fit the first time. And even if you don’t know what either of those are, don’t worry, you don’t need to, the installation process steps and images let you line everything up right and make sure the lock is in the best position. You will need to the Eufy Security app to finish setting the lock up and using all the advanced features if offers. I use Eufy security cameras so I already have the app installed. Paring the lock to my account is as easy as scanning the included QR code on the backside of indoor assembly. Once you do that, you’re good to go.

The lock is very sturdy, all metal drill-proof construction. It has BHMA Grade 2 Security Certification and is IP65 weather rated. What that means is the lock will continue to work for 50 years under average use, and remain weatherproof from rain, snow, wind etc. It has a 10K mAh battery which Eufy says should last for a year on a single charge. My assumption is that is with very little use, so I’ll be happy to get 6 months out of this on my front door. The battery is easily removed to charge, and it also has an emergency lock up charging port at the bottom of it, so if you should happen to be locked out due to a dead battery and not have one of the physical keys they supply to open the lock that way, you can plug in a charger and juice up the lock enough to let you gain access via fingerprint sensor or keypad.

The features this lock has is where I’m most impressed.
Here is my rundown of the best this lock has to offer and the features that I use every day:
--Wi-Fi Connection – lock, unlock or configure your lock from anywhere
--Fingerprint scanner – very large scanner means no missed or false touch scans, it’s super-fast and Eufy says it even has an AI chip inside that improves the scanning process over time the more you use it
--Keypad allows for 4-8 digit pin number access, and you can even assign temporary pin numbers for guests or scramble the pin codes by entering random numbers before or after your code if you feel your privacy is not 100%
--Wrong Try protection – enable and configure how many times a person can try to unlock with their fingerprint or pin before the lock goes into a shutdown period, which you determine the length of the shutdown period
--Lock Sounds – set the volume of the audible tone when the lock is locked or unlocked, or turn the sounds off all together
--Notifications – get a notice whenever the lock is unlocked or locked and how (manually, by finger, by pin, etc.)
--Auto Lock – probably my favorite feature, set the lock to lock itself when the door senses it’s closed. You can set this from 1s to 3m and leave it on all the time or schedule when the lock should auto lock
--Alexa and Google Assistance compatible for voice commands to lock and unlock the door
--Manage Access for the whole family and then some – store all your family members on your Eufy account in the app with fingerprints, pins and also allow for access to other Eufy members when needed

If you have made it this far in the review, thanks for reading. I’m am thoroughly impressed with this locks construction and features, and I have loved using it and the piece of mind it gives me that I never knew I needed before. The ease of use is something my wife and kids enjoy, and knowing that the lock itself is far superior to my old standard deadbolt, I highly recommend this smart lock from Eufy, I’m loving mine!!!

Super accurate and super fast

Right away you can feel the quality of the AW410K.  Nice and heavy aluminum construction with a thick braided nylon cable that should be able to stand up to anything.  You get a full size keyboard, but the styling does make it feel slightly compact.  They have trimmed the bezels on all sides, making the keys the star of the show here, and boy do they shine.  I do wish they would have included some kind of ergonomic wrist rest, but I understand they were trying to keep the footprint small.  They do include multiple height positions though, through a dual height set of feet.  You can lay the keyboard flat, only use the inside of the feet to get a small height bump, or extend the outer portion of the feet to get the max height adjustment.  I love using it flat, but even using the mid height middle feet is also very comfortable.  And I love the USB pass through feature to connect other accessories or charge a device, very convenient.

The AW410K comes with Cherry MX Brown keys.  They are placed in a floating design and require almost no actuation pressure.  That leads to incredibly fast and accurate responses from all the keys.  I don’t know that I’ve used a keyboard that feels as “fast” as this one.  I’ve used it for both gaming and office productivity, and when playing games, the keystrokes are so accurate and precise.  And since they require such little effort to register, you’re probably shaving milliseconds of response time off your reactions and gameplay moves, it is noticeable.  And for productivity, this keyboard outruns me every time.  I’m a pretty fast and accurate typer, but this keyboard pushes me to the max, and most of the time I cannot keep up, its simply too fast and accurate.  The Cherry Brown switches give the ever so satisfying click of each key, but not the overly loud and distracting kind.  The click is “just right” and feels great.  Perfect either by yourself, or in a setting where other mechanical keyboards with other switch types might drive those around you insane with the volume of their clicks.

Out of the box the RGB lighting is set to a light blue, and by downloading the Alienware Command Center software,  you have access to adjust and customize it.  I would have loved to have some additional preset options for fully animated, full color options to just set and forget, but you do get the fully customizable options to edit per key, which is great.  You can select from an almost infinite amount of color choices and set the colors to your specific liking for either the entire keyboard, banks of keys, or each key one by one. You can customize your heart out.  I don’t normally use macro keys bindings, but with the Alienware Command Center, you have tons of customization options for Macros.

This camera is Great, except the actual video!
By Jason
I love everything about this camera. From the form and function to the ease of setup (less than 2 mins) to mounting it wherever I want. The app is great, the two way communication is great. The motion zones work perfectly once you get used to setting them based on your environment and traffic, etc. The cloud storage option is amazing considering what you get for the price you pay. Everything is amazing, except the actual video quality of the camera. It's supposed to be 720p. It is not, at least not the unit that I have. My video quality is so heavily pixelated most of the time, that it renders having this camera in the first place, useless. The image attached to this review is an completely unedited screen grab from a recent video recording. I've been working with the Ring support, and they have been great, however they kept almost insisting that the reason for the pixelation was due to my wi-fi connection. I have Xfinity cable internet with 100mbps downstream and 25mbps upstream, and I use a Linksys EA9500 router that is about 12-15 feet from where the camera is mounted. Wi-fi signal is not the issue at all. I exchanged speed test screen shots and other details with the Ring support, and after discussing with them they have advised me to return this unit and exchange it for another one. They have looked at my videos and agree the video quality should be better than what I'm seeing. So I will do that and update this review if I do see better results with the new unit. Wish me luck!
UPDATE
June 19, 2016
So I returned the previous unit and exchanged for a new one, at the advice of the Ring support team. The new unit is up and running and I can say the video is better. So far so good!

Nest Doorbell (Wired) lets you know who’s there, so you never miss a thing. It replaces your existing wired doorbell and delivers HD video and bright, crisp images, even at night. It’s designed to show you everything at your doorstep — people head to toe or packages on the ground. And with 24/7 streaming, you can check in anytime. Or go back and look at a 3-hour snapshot history to see what happened.*

How immediate is the notification to your smartphone? My current security has a slight delay but enough that the person is usually gone by time I try to respond.

In my use of the Nest Hello, if someone pushes the doorbell button, the notification is instantaneous, the Nest app chimes my phone alongside our doorbell chime ringing in the house.
