Yes, there is an easy to use holder for slides and negatives.The time is dependent on the dpi you use to scan. The scanner will scan 4 (four) slides at a time and two negative strips, with room for more, (8 pictures) my experience is at 4800 dpi, once started takes about 30 minutes. Scan of negatives is recommended at 4800 dpi, all 8 negative pictures are stored in individual files. Each slide is also stored in a separate file.

After Mojave, the macOS Catalina and later will only run 64bit software. You can use Mac's Image Capture application with this scanner, which allows for "Transparency - Positive (and negative)" for slides.by

The short answer is yes, but there are really two issues. First, the Epson scanner, as with almost all scanners, uses a TWAIN driver (the TWAIN driver allows the seamless acquisition of a scanned image directly into a photo editing program). The drivers were created by the TWAIN Working Group in 1992 and last updated in 2015. It's likely TWAIN drivers will continue to be supported in the future. The second issue is if the photo processing software that Epson provides with the scanner will be updated and supported in the future. I see this as a minor issue since there are so many photo editing software options including freeware such as GIMP. I upgraded my PC to a new Windows 10 machine after MS ended support for WIN 7. I had an Epson V550 scanner. I loaded the latest Epson scanner driver software package from the Epson web site and the V550 works fine on WIN 10.by

The V600 works with Windows 10 while the V550 does not work in Windows 10. The Epson software still needs the Task Manager to close its windows completely in Windows 10.by

The transparency/negative scanner is 3 x 10 inches. Any format up to that size is possible. The optional plastic guides however only accommodate up to 2.25 inches wide, so I don't use them if I need more room.by

I used an older Epson scanner with a transmissive cover to scan 4x5 transparencies. The resolution was fine for creating an index, or perhaps printing as large as 8x10. If you care about your images, and want to extract every detail that is in the negative, use a medium or large format scanner (Nikon 9000, Imacon). But expect to shell out many thousands for these, and you often have to deal with connectivity and driver issues.by

Yes, I've used a v600 with El Capitan for a long time, works perfectly. I just updated to High Sierra and it works perfectly there, too, although I scan with VueScan software and not Epson's software. Epson's software shouldn't have any issues as Epson is usually very good at staying up to date with the Apple OS versions.by

Yes, that's what I'm currently using with the V600. Any Mac OS already has drivers for all epson scanners. You can use either Image Capture (included with every Mac OS) or Photoshop to use the scanner.by

The scanner did a great job with the 170 slides I just completed. Only scans 4 slides per scan but that is fairly common with consumer scanners. It will take you 2 to 3 minutes per 4 slides depending on how organized you are.
Take advantage of the file naming feature. This will help you keep the slides chronological or alphabetical depending on your style.

I don't know if this is the best choice, but it does a fantastic job with slides. You can scan up to 4 35mm mounted slides at a time or up to 6 frames at a time of unmounted 35mm strips of slide film. You can preview the slides prior to scanning them into your computer; and you can adjust the resolution to get the best print quality, if you want to make prints later. You can also scan strips of unmounted medium format slide film, but not mounted medium format slides.by
