what is a a/v cable

The A/V cable is a Audio Video cable. Usually associated with camcorders so you can connect to a TV for viewing or a stand alone recorder for dubbing. When in reference to Digital Cameras it allows the image to be displayed on a TV screen after the photo is taken. Some cameras also allow you to use the TV as a live view like monitor.

are there any devises that act as a liason between a hi 8 cam corder and a pc?

i have an older hi8 camcorder and i want to be able to upload the video onto my computer...all i have is a/v outputs on the camera...are there any sort of devises that act as a liason between my camera and my pc?
This is more a question for the “Camcorders” section...but here goes. What you are looking for is commonly referred to as a “Bridge”. The Dazzle from Pinnacle is a popular option. It has 2 versions. One being just a DvD burning system and one with video editing software and features. Both connect to your USB port and use your A/V (Audio/Video) outputs on the camcorder.

How do i get a disk from the media card go to a kiosk and have a disk made?

I just bought a Sanyo VPCHD100,i hve a 2GB media card,do you do the same with that as you do with a regular digital camera take it to the store and have it transferred onto a disk
The reviews are pretty good for this Camcorder. Images are usually stored in their own folder on the media. You should be able to take them to any photo print location and have them printed and or transferred to CD normally. You can also transfer the photos to your computer from the camera using the USB connection, and if you have a CD Burner, burn your own disks.

IS THERE A DIGITAL CAMERA THAT ALSO RECORDS

If the question is”Records” video ...then...yes, there are many digital cameras that record video. Some cameras such as the Sony DSCT700/P record HD video. The list of Still Cameras that also record Video is too long to list here. Stop by your nearest Best Buy and browse around the cameras to find one that best meets your needs.

vista 64 bit o/s compatible question

ok. i'm trying to get into the digital age. just bought an hp desktop computer w/ vista duo core o/s. i want to get an hd camcorder (avchd format) please suggest models. also, will i be able to burn to dvd and play on a regular dvd player hooked to an analog tv.
There are a lot of Camcorders that record in the AVCHD format. Some starting under $599, depending on what format (Memory, DvD , Hard Drive or combination) you want to record to, what you need the Camcorder to shoot and what features interest you. As to the question of “ will i be able to burn to dvd and play on a regular dvd player hooked to an analog tv”. Yes, once the footage is converted to SD (Standard Definition) and burned as a DvD. You can copy a AVCHD file directly to a DvD and it will play as HD on a Blu-ray player in FULL HD.

Help is you can.

I have a sony video 8 handycam.
I would like to download my videos to my computer in order to upload them to a dvd.
My handycam picture is not working.
Any suggestions or do you know where I can rent a compatible Sony CCD-TR55 video 8 handycam-it is not an Hi 8. Thanks.
The Sony CCD-TR55 uses a 8mm standard tape. Even though it is not Hi8 it will still play back in a Hi8 camera or deck. If you can find a Sony Digital 8 it should play back in that system also. That would make it easier to connect to your computer through the firewire(IEEE 1394) port and capture the footage. You can get a DV Bridge device, such as the Dazzle from Pinnacle, that connects to your USB port and to the camcorder's A/V (Audio Video) out. If it is just the screen on the camcorder that is not working you can still capture through the Dazzle because the picture will be visible on the computer screen while you capture.

I use the mini DV tapes for my camcorder but I need to show the recording on a VCR. What accessory do I need to use?

This is more a question for the Camcorders section...but here goes.
There is no tape adapter to Play miniDV tapes on a VHS-VCR.
You can connect to the A/V (Audio Video) out of the camcorder to the input of the VCR and set the VCR to aux in or front/rear input and either record a copy (Dub) for play back later or just pass the video through the VCR deck and show it directly on the TV Screen. Your camcorder will either have a 1/8 inch jack on the side that has A/V OUT marked on it or 3 RCA outs (Red, White and Yellow). The Yellow is for video. If you don't have these cables you can get them at your nearest BestBuy.

camcorder to DVD

so, if i buy a new camcorder with large (60GB) hard drive, how can i make DVD's that i can send to friends etc? i assume i'll need some additional device that will allow me to plug (via USB) the camcorder into it to make the DVD. so what device should i buy, and is this easy to do?
You have several options. One being buy a Hybrid (or as some are calling it a Tribrid). That is a camcorder that has DvD + 8gig built in memory + Flash Memory expansion. That way you can record to the internal memory and record to the DvD only what you want. You can also record to Flash Memory to decide later what you want to do with the footage.
As for the 60GB camcorder you can get a Digital Bridge such as the Dazzle from Pinnacle. You can connect to a stand alone DvD Burner. If you have a Blu-ray player and your friends also have a Blu-ray or PS3 you can copy AVCHD files to your computer and burn directly to disk and they will play on a Blu-ray unit. All options are fairly easy to operate and use.

SDHC

I taped a video on a SDHC from my sony camcorder but I need to produce a copy for my teacher. I cannot transfer the copy to my computer nor a mini dvd much less a dvd. What can I do to get a copy to my teacher and my two classmates.
Without knowing what you have access to I can only suggest options.
1.If you have or know someone who has a stand alone DvD Burner, one that connects to a TV, you can connect to it with the A/V(Audio/Video) Cables and record a DvD.
2.Same as above but with a VHS.
3.Purchase a bridge such as the Dazzle from Pinnacle to capture the footage and convert it to a standard AVI to view on computers and burn to a CD.
4.Take the footage to you nearest BestBuy and have the Geek Squad see what they can do.
