what is the difference between SD, MMC, SDHC cards?

I read that if you shoot video with your digital camera you best have a "high performance" memory card other wise your card will not hold more than 11 minutes or so of video/still shots cobimbined.
SD is Secure Disk and holds up to 2gb. SDHC is Secure Disk High Capacity and increases storage above 2gb and is faster.
MMC is MultiMedia Card and is only in the Mega Byte range, very low capacity.
If you are shooting video and your camera supports SDHC it would be best to use that memory.

beginners digital camera

If taking just snapshots, any of the compact cameras should do. If learning photography and taking more professional photographs is the goal, getting a entry level D-SLR would be best.
The D-SLR has longer battery life between charges, full manual control in addition to Auto,
sharper more vibrant pictures...and much more.
Canon, Nikon and Sony are a great choice for entry level beginner D-SLR.

What should I do to SAFELY recover the 500+ images I lost when I inadvertently formatted a memory card?

Card is a 2GB PROMASTER SD, and has not been used since it was formatted.
I have had this happen a few times myself. I use R-Studio and have had great success with it.
Always recover files to a different disk or drive than the original to avoid over writing the files.

DVD Camcorders

What Type of a camcorder can i buy that will allow me to take the DVD straight From the cancorder and insert it into my Computors DVD or my DVD Player
They all should. The disk has to be finalized and the DvD Tray has to accept mini DvD disk. That is it has to have a small reccesed area inside the larger area.

digital slr, don't want video

want to purchase a digital slr - don't want or really use the video... any good ones out there?
There are still a lot of D-SLR cameras that do not have a Movie Mode. I shoot with Sony (a200 and a700..no Movie Mode) and as far as I know...Olympus and Pentax do not have any models with Movie Mode.
Canon and Nikon only have a few models that include the HD Movie Mode.

what are the best camcorders to use for youtube

That would be a long list. There are a lot of camcorders that are YouTube friendly.
The YouTube site does accept several different formats and codecs and does the final conversion for you.

can these dvd recordings be played on any regular dvd player?

If the DvD is finalized and your DvD player accepts mini DvD disks ...they should play back.

what is digital and optical zoom

Optical Zoom is like using a magnifying glass. To enlarge the subject you are looking at you move the glass closer to make the image seem bigger. Digital zoom is like taking the subject and ENLARGING by stretching it. This will cause jagged edges and distortions.

The highest Optical Zoom is always the best to look for.

Camcorder Model RBGZ-MS100 how many GB has in the hard drive?

The JVC RBGZ-MS100 is a SD-HC memory based camcorder. There is no hard drive. It uses SD (Secure Disk) HC (High Capacity) memory.
Both regular SD up to 2gb and SD-HC will work.
