portriat nikon len AF

I have a nikon D40x what is a good mediun price len for general shots and portriat
Both the Nikon 50mm and the 85mm f/1.8 lenses would work well for portrait and general shooting. I leave the 50mm on my camera almost all the time.
Both of these are a prime lens...meaning there is no Zoom. If you want the subject bigger...you have to move closer.
These are also fast lenses. They require less light and can give you a shallow depth of field (soft /blurry background look).

What lens is needed?

I have a Nikon D60 with an 18-55mm lens and I absolutely love it, but I'd like to be able to zoom further than I can right now. Any suggestions on lenses? I'd like to be able to capture shots of my kids, particularly my daughter while she's playing soccer. Vibration reduction is a must for me too.
The Nikon 70-300mm would work well for your zoom needs. There are 2 models. The VR version has vibration reduction.
The 70-200mm f/2.8 VR does not have as much zoom as the 300mm but is a faster lens...f/2.8 vs f/4.5.
The faster lens will freeze the action better and give you a shallower depth of field.

I am looking for a digital camera and a camcorder combined. Help!

I would like a digital camera that also acts like a camcorder
Nikon D90 might come close to what your looking for. Although no one camera as of yet will work perfectly as both a camcorder and a full digital still camera...the D90 is a still camera that also shoots HD video.

what is smile mode?

This is a special detection mode. When the shutter button is pushed the camera waits until it detects a smile and then it will take the photo.

Camera for live streaming

Right now I have a JVC everio ad just realized that we can't do live streaming directly to the computer with it. So what is a good ecent priced camera that will do live video on a computer. We usually just use it for home movies, so we don't need anything fancy.
Without knowing what service or provider you are using for the streaming it would be difficult to suggest a camcorder that would work.
In general any camcorder with a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port and a compatible port on your computer should allow the streaming function.
It might also be possible to use any camcorder and a digital bridge..such as the Dazzle from Pinnacle.

Pinnacle Systems - Dazzle Digital Video Creator Plus

What kind of digital camera can I use that could work as a web cam too?

Webcam is not a real common feature to be included in a digital camera. What with Webcams starting as low as $10 in some cases, it is more cost effective to get an actual webcam rather than a digital camera costing $100 and more.
Some cameras can be used as a webcam if the manufacturer included a driver for that function.
Sanyo might be an option.

what do i need to convert vhs to dvd?

what equipment do I need to buy to convert my camcorder vhs tapes to dvd?
If they are VHS-C (compact) tapes and you do not have a working camera to play back on, you will first need a converter cassette to be able to play them on a full size VHS player.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%2...
Next...if you have a stand alone DvD Recorder you can connect using the A/V (Audio Video) cables and connect the output of the VHS Player to the input of the DvD Recorder and copy the footage to a DvD.

Which cameras are compatible with Ubuntu Linux

I am currently working on a project that involves a computer running Ubuntu Linux. Is there a way to tell which cameras are compatible with Ubuntu Linux?
The popular camcorder maker in the Linux forums seems to be Sanyo.
Several forums say that any camcorder with Firewire (IEEE 1394) will work with Linux os.

What is the best camera for close up shots?

I have some rings that I would like to sell but my camera doesn't take a close enough shot. I need a camera that shoots really clear shots up close.
A D-SLR with a Macro lens will give you the best results. The Macro lens would have to be purchased separately. Some cameras like Olympus will sometimes include a Macro as a 2 lens Kit option.
There are many compact cameras that have a Macro setting but to get close enough to your subject with a compact usually cast a shadow across it making the shot difficult.

What camera would be good for amateur movies?

I want to make a few amateur movies for YouTube. What camcorder would be good?
You could get the Insignia found here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insigni...
It's small, easy to use and inexpensive.
Most any camcorder can be used for Youtube videos. The file conversion is generally done online.
