Put the extender next to the devices you want to use. It won't do you any good to place it near your wireless router because the purpose is to extend your router signal further than it already does and placing the extender closer to the devices you will be using will give you the benefit.

This device is to be placed in-between the router and wherever the dead spot is you are trying to cover.

Take into account walls (wood, concrete, Sheetrock, etc) - physical structures impede the signal strength. You Will want this device on the strong side of the router signal. It will the boost the signal through the offending obstacle(s).

The device setup next to your router is redundant and pointless. Your main router is already there. You want the extension, so yes, plug in after setup any room in center of the home or opposite side of the house. Try different outlets until you get the desired results. You will! This device is phenomenal. Works all day long with same signal strength strength presently supplied from your ISP provider.

You should find a place in your home away from the router but still has a decent signal (not all bars but something where there isn't an issue with connecting). The further away from the router you are the larger "boost" you'll have. i.e router has a 50 foot signal bubble, extender is put 40 feet away and boosts another 50 feet, your wifi now has a 90 foot signal bubble.

Basically, it piggybacks on your existing wifi by creating another connection with '.ext' to your wifi.

It only extends the range of your wifi. So, say your modem/wifi is in the living room, you plug this gadget outdoors still in range with the wifi, you've now extended your wifi to your back yard.

Will it create a new WiFi network? Yes and no. It will piggy back off of your current network. However yes, because when you go to look for the network, it will be its own option. Example... if your networks name is "ABC123", once this device is set up, it will show another network you can connect to labeled "ABC123 - EXT". And yes, you will need to connect your devices directly to the extended network for it to work. Now... I have a Chromecast that is connected to this device directly, however, my phone is always connected to my router. It still controls my Chomecast that's connected to the extender.

The universal is N300 single band (2.4 GHz), can do 802.11 b/g/n and can go up to 300mbps speed.

The AC750 can do 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, can do 802.11 b/g/n/ac, and can do 750 mbps speed.

Check your router to see what it can do, compare it to the specs on these. For example, if you have a N600 dual band router (2.4 and 5.0 GHz), the N300 extender will only work on the 2.4 GHz frequency.

N600 router with the AC750, it will see 802.11 n from the router, and can be dual band (2.4 and 5.0 GHz). N600 cannot broadcast ac, so you would not use that benefit.

Basically... find the bottleneck on your router, buy the product that matches your bottleneck. In the case of an N600 router, I would buy neither, I would buy an extender that is made for N600.

The Netgear Universal WiFi Range Extender broadcasts the a/b/g/n WiFi standards, while the Netgear AC750 broadcasts the newer ac standard. Most WiFi-ready equipment uses the N standard (or something older), so unless you own a device that's capable of receiving ac wifi signals (and you have a fast enough internet connection that'll let you see the speed difference), you're better off with the Universal (i. e. non-ac) extender. Ac-capable routers still run in the +$100 dollar range, so unless you already own one, it's best to hold off on ac extenders.

Hello,

The first Universal extender is for a Single Normal b/g/n wifi signal and has limited number of deices you can connect to.
The AC router offers 2 separate signals, I use one of the signals for my Cellphone, (LG G2) Dell Tablet etc, the other I use it for TV and Game console (PS3, Xbox) etc, Not every deice is compatible with the AC signal. Why have 2 Signals ? Like I mention, you have a limited amount of devices you can connect per signal. I think is work the extra $$ for the AC router.

There are quite a few. The AC750 uses a different wireless standard then the Universal one (802.11ac vs 802.11n). Also, the AC750 has dual band 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, while the Universal only uses 2.4. For the average home user the AC750 is overkill as most computers coming from Dell, Toshiba and other big box suppliers aren't coming equipped with networking cards that support the extra speed and range of wireless 802.11ac. I'd go with the Universal if you are an average home user. If you are above average there are other dual band range extenders that may be cheaper or the same price that isn't using the 802.11ac standard. Likewise, if you are a power user, on the cutting edge of technology and know that your card is capable of 802.11ac and would like the new technology, then the 750 is great!

The technical answer to your question is you can never get higher Internet speed than what your service provider gives you. However if, for example, you're supposed to be getting 20 Mbps, but your devices are a good distance from your wireless router and you are only able to get about 5 Mbps, then using this extender can probably get you about 15 Mbps, but never more than 20 Mbps. It will also help to run an Ethernet cable from the extender to whatever device you're using if you want the highest speed possible from the extender.

I think you should find out what speed are you running now, I know some (TW in NYC offer a $14.99 monthly deal, this sucks my friend had to upgrade to a higher bandwidth. I do recommend a range Extender to make sure the TV gets a good signal specially if you are going to be streaming movies, and video.

Your speed is determined by your plan through your ISP provider. It will not increase speed therefore, but will increase the signal from your main router anywhere in your home. You can simply plug it in anywhere and if you have more rooms than we had, buy a second or a third. For the price, it's unmatched and works like a champ 100% reliable.

It won't help your internet speed. The only thing it can help is increase the speed if you were too far from the wireless router and having dropped connections. But whatever your internet speed is, nothing will make that faster except for your internet provider. A wireless router in almost all cases runs speeds faster than a home internet connection.

A:

You can use two extenders, but they would not be "paired." Each extender adds a new network name (SSID).

You can "daisy chain" them and, for example, if your router is "Home," then the first extender would put out a network signal named "Home_EXT." Then the second extender would receive the first extender and put out a network signal named "Home_EXT_EXT."

I think you can use it, but you should connect to the Original Router, Be aware of "Stretching the rubber band, it will snap," you know you cannot connect too many devices to the extender because it will slow down the connection.

No ethernet cable is required, the ethernet connection is an option if you want to connect any devices that don't have wifi. When setting the wifi extender up, it will tell you if it's too far or too close, the distance is very relative, some places have walls with metal plates or maybe a concrete wall, that could block the signal or cause interference, but my recommendations is, don't set it up more than 30 ft away from the router.

You do not need to plug an Ethernet cable into the extender. Although it does have the option to do that. You can connect it to your router wirelessly. I'm not sure on the max distance but when you plug the extender into an outlet the light on it will be green if it's a good signal, yellow if the signal is ok, and red if the signal is low. You can use this to judge a good distance to place it.

I can’t answer Max Feet but I do not have a cable ran. Mine is maybe 25-30 feet away in another room across the house and it has helped the WiFi in the kids bedrooms. They were having a lot of lag and freeze ups. It was super easy to establish a connection between it and a router (no cables needed, just a close proximity plug in for power) it’s been worth the money for me...

I was quite pleased to note that this Netgear device worked with two laptops running Linux Mint operating systems, which i switched to recently. No configuration necessary to run in Linux.

I replaced my cheapo TP-Link extender ($19.99) with this Netgear extender for $42 and I'm VERY SATISFIED. I have a Roku 4 that can output 4K to my Sharp 70" 4K TV and have the Fios Quantum Gatway router from Verizon and my Internet speed is 50/50 Mbps. Unfortunately my router is upstairs and the Roku 4 and TV are in the basement so I could only get about 12 Mbps over WiFi from the Roku 4 in the basement (4K needs about 15 Mbps). So, I set up this Netgear extender, ran an Ethernet cable from the extender to the Roku 4 and now I'm getting about 30 Mbps in the basement and the 4K signal looks AMAZING on my TV. The difference between 4K and 1080p on a large TV (60"+) is noticeable and I have to say House of Cards streamed through Netflix in 4K looks even better than it does on Blu-ray with my PS4. I highly recommend this extender, but use with Ethernet cable for best results when streaming.

I've found the extender to have really good range, partly because it has external antennas. Wireless though always works best going down so you will be fighting against that. If you have a middle floor, you may need to place the extender there. You want the extender to get a strong signal from your router (which it indicates with a green, amber, red light system) but also want it far enough away from the router to not cause interference with the router. We live in a single story house so I can't speak to how well it will travel up. With wifi sometimes all you can do is test and see if it works.

This is an excellent question. I live in a Condo made of cement, and I find that the extender's signal is somewhat poor. I wonder if the signal would be better in a wooden home or one with insulated walls. Try checking that online first. Good luck.

The Netgear Extender will work perfect for you as well. I have a 2 story house (2200 SF), my cable modem and wireless router are all located in one room downstairs, and my second workstation office is upstairs on the opposite side of the house. I placed the extender in the same room as my second office. Works great and my PC receives 5 bars; it is as fast if not faster.

Yes it will work. If you get w high end one and your current router supports dual band it should be close to those speeds. The range extender should be in a spot with about 1 to 2 bars of service. Roughly where it starts to drop and it will take that wifi and repeat it

I live in a 3k sq ft house, we left the extender down stairs, it provides you a signal notifier from the Router to the Extender. When leaving it downstairs, or across the house, when we connected the ipads to the extender, we walked around to see where the best placement would be, the light turns amber when it looses connection, and turns green when it establishes a solid connection again. Answer to Questions it will not provide the same speeds as directly connecting, but this device will provide relatively good speeds, I do not recommend directly connecting it to your wireless router, because your wireless router already sends a signal out, so you would be defeating the purpose of extending the signal from the NETGEAR extender. From what i can tell by your question, this device will work perfectly for you. it provides decent instructions on what you should do also.

RJ-45 hook up also work to get how to set up guide. Maybe it will work from main router as the bridge-mode and as your main router from modem through RJ-45 cable.

This will improve the situation, but no un-wired connection will perform as well as a wired one. Follow the instructions, but try a couple of different placements of the extender to find the best performance.

I visit my mother who does not have Internet and need to extend the signal from my brothers house next door which is maybe 100 yards to 150 yards is there an extender to do that and if so would I put it in his home or my mothers?

A:

Generally, the best place to install an extender is halfway between the devices needing a connection and the router. If that would be outdoors between two homes as in your case, pick an inside wall that is closest to the halfway point.

However, if the signal path passes through a wall or floor at a shallow angle, that can be worse than any distance problem. In that case you can get better results by installing an extender away from the direct line-of-sight between computer and router, so that the signal zigzags through walls and floors as perpendicular as possible.

I had horrible problems with only 50 feet between my computer and my router because my office is under concrete stairs supported by a concrete wall. I got excellent results with an inexpensive Netgear WN3000RP right outside my office, with a zigzag 90 degree path to dodge past the concrete.

Put it in your brothers house (set it up) - then go to grandmas and see if you can see the WiFi network (whatever ur brother named it) from there.

If it shows up, ur good.

If not - you might need a stronger extender or could consider upgrading your router to a class-N network, if the router doesn't support that band. (contact ur service provider for a new router).

I believe the extender (or a comparable good strong one) should solve ur needs.

I would get a outdoor access point hard wire it that should get the signal to her house then maybe use the netgear extender if needed but a good outdoor access point mite just do it.

You will need a Range Extender, Please look into getting one that can cover the necessary distance. I like the NEtgear products because it was easy to set up. You need to find a place in the house where the signal is (ok or strong) plug the extender there and take it from there. I did something similar at work.

A:

This might work. You set it up (very easy) at your brothers house near his router. Then you'd bring it to your mom's house and see if it picks up the signal. One way to test might be to bring a cell phone to your moms house and see if you can use your brothers WiFi. If yes, then this would likely work.
